Introduction

Hello All! Welcome to my Chronos Guide!

I've had a lot of success with Chronos since his launch and thought I would share what I've learned. Chronos currently scales very strongly with Items. His late game is very powerful and in the right hands his early game can be good too.

This guide focuses on Movement Speed and Attack Speed along with Magical Power and Magical Lifesteal. By late game, you will be VERY fast and deadly when unleashing Accelerate during the Wheel of Time Phase 4. This guide will walk you through how to use certain skills as well as which items to buy, depending on the enemy team's composition, and when.

If you enjoy strong Mobility, Skill Shots, and Mages, this build is for you!

Note: THERE IS NO ONE BEST BUILD. Everything in this game is situational based on team compositions and enemy decisions. I don't understand other Builds that don't tell you how to react to your enemies. This is why I've included a 4 Item Core along with 2 Situational Items and how to choose which. Please Comment and +1 if you agree! Thanks!

Player Feedback

"This is the best guide on here for chronos, all the others are incorrect and will never have a strong enough late game.

I kinda don't want people to know about this fatalis build honestly, it's too strong."

"Good Guide. Situational Items really make it stand out. I'm still cautious about Fatalis but I'll have to give it a try. Great to see some videos too!"

Pros / Cons

MOTD Streak

This screenshot is meant to show how strong Chronos is when fully built, NOT his overall potential throughout a game. This MOTD was perfect to show what this build is capable of during late game.

NOTE: The MOTD in this streak was "Cup Runneth Over". (Start with 12k and level 20)
Also note that there is a 7-0 Arena game as well.

Cup Runneth Over High Score - 100k!

This screenshot shows the highest score (Player Damage Wise) I obtained during the Cup Runneth Over MOTD. Twice as much as the second placed score and three times as much as most players. Average damage scores during this MOTD seem to be about 30-40k, my averages with this build were about 60-80k.

Videos

Conquest Side Lane

This video shows me playing Conquest, side laning with a friend of mine. It shows:
  • How to push minions and Harass enemies during the Early Game.
  • Pushing a tower.
  • Chronos in team fights.
  • How powerful he becomes when he reaches his 5th Item.
(Notice the speed increase after purchasing Fatalis)

NOTE: I added music to the video, but didn't edit it to the footage, it's way too long..

Enjoy!

MOTD "Hoarder"

This video shows off Chronos' late game abilities. It is during the MOTD "Hoarder". None of the players seemed too competitive, but the fact that I had more Player Damage than my entire team says something. A couple of my deaths should have been avoided. Enjoy!

ARENA

A Weak start but Strong finish. There's been better matches, but this still shows how he scales with Items. Built with Physical Protection in mind, the enemy team has only 3 physical but with Loki.. it's worth it.

Skills

THE WHEEL OF TIME

TIME RIFT (#1)

Time Rift can be tricky to use and a large waste of mana if used incorrectly. It doesn't have the largest AoE and has a delayed cast once triggered. Knowing where your enemy wants to go is necessary to be effective with Time Rift. It's best used in conjunction with #3 Stop Time or when trying to poke at enemies beyond minions.

ACCELERATE (#2)

Accelerate is the bread and butter of Chronos and this build. It activates his passive's four possible effects, through the Wheel of Time. You receive a Movement and Attack Speed buff in addition to the Wheel of Time effects. Effects last 8 seconds. Each has uses depending on your situation:
  • PHASE 1: Heals for 1.5% max HP/sec.
A solid heal that can be used at any time. 12% health gained. If you're not in combat and not at full health, pop this for an easy heal.
  • PHASE 2: Refunds 75% from mana costs from abilities.
Very powerful sustain during the Early game. You should usually only be using this or Phase 1 during early game.
  • PHASE 3: Adds +20% Magical Power.
The least admired ability from the Wheel of Time, though I believe it's underrated. Even though this build completely focuses on Phase 4, Phase 3 can be better earlier on, before Attack Speed gear is been obtained. If you are simply poking at Enemy Gods using Time Rift or Stop Time, Phase 3 is the way to go.
  • PHASE 4: Adds 35% Magical Power contribution to your Basic Attacks.
I cannot explain how devastating this can be coupled with high Attack Speed and decent Magical Power. This also triggers Magical Lifesteal to work with your Basic Attacks for the duration. With this build, Phase 4 doesn't begin to unleash until you have 4+ Items and around level 14. After that point you will start to feel like a true God.

NOTE: Leveling Accelerate only improves the Attack Speed and Movement Speed bonus. All of the Wheel of Time effects stay the same. Therefore, I don't level Accelerate until I obtain the items necessary for Auto-Attacking enemy gods successfully (Items #3+), roughly Level 15.

STOP TIME (#3)

Stop Time is great for many situations. You can lock down an enemy for about 2 seconds (slow+stun) as well as damaging them. Whether you are initiating, finishing, or escaping from an enemy, Stop Time will help you do it. It has a long, wide range, but moves very slowly. Distant targets will be hard to hit unless in a hectic situation.

REWIND (#4)

Rewind is very powerful when used at the right time. An underrated skill in my opinion. Preventing an enemy kill is about as good as getting a kill yourself. Many will say it doesn't help you achieve a kill (like many ultimates can do), but this isn't always true. If you are dueling someone for around 8 seconds and pop Rewind when near low health, you will be back at full Health AND your cooldowns will now be reset. Since you were dueling for around 8 seconds, you will end up right where you were, ready to finish them off. At that point it will be difficult not to get the kill.

Items

ITEM #1

ITEM #2 (Situational #1)

warlock's sash
At this point, it's time to make a choice based on your situation.
  • Polynomicon: This is your most common choice. If the enemy team has a balanced Magical/Physical composition, this is what you want. It brings huge damage to the table when used correctly. The Lifesteal will also be very effective later on.
  • Wall of Absolution: Choose this if you're laned against both Physical damage gods AND if the enemy's Mid is Physical. In Arena if at least 4 enemies are Physical
  • Focused Void Stone: Choose this if you're laned against both Magical damage gods AND if the enemy's Mid is Magical. In Arena if at least 4 enemies are Magical.
  • warlock's sash: Choose this if you are just generally looking for more Survivability.

ITEM #3

  • The Bread.
  • One of the best DPS upgrades for it's cost and it works perfect with Chronos' style of play. Get it for #3.

ITEM #4

  • The Power. It becomes well worth the price at this stage. (See Item Comparison Test Below)

ITEM #5

  • The Butter.
  • In addition to a nice damage boost for your Accelerate phase 4, you will now begin to fly as well.
  • The passive is amazing when using phase 4 while being chased backwards. The amount of players I've killed while they were angrily hunting me down is countless.

ITEM #6 (Situational #2)

magi's blessing
Time to re-access. What have your enemies focused on?
  • Bancroft's Talon: This is your most common choice. If the enemy team has a balanced Magical/Physical composition AND they have NOT focused on Defense, this is what you want. It will add more damage than most items if you enemies haven't focused on Defenses. The extra Lifesteal is going to have a powerful effect on your Accelerate phase 4 as well.
  • Obsidian Shard: If your enemies have focused on Defenses this is your best choice. The more they've dumped into Defenses, the better choice this becomes.
  • Gem of Binding: This is great for focusing an enemy during a team fight. They won't be able to get away from anyone. If you're looking for a way to get Chronos to contribute to team fights, this is it.
  • Breastplate of Valor: If at there are 4+ Physical damage gods on the enemy team, this is a good choice. If you're feeling confident though, go with one of the first 3 items.
  • magi's blessing: If at there are 4+ Magical damage gods on the enemy team, this is a good choice. If you're feeling confident though, go with one of the first 3 items.
  • Ethereal Staff: If you chose warlock's sash as your second item, this can complement it well. You'll gain lots of Health, but gain some Magical Power at the same time. Choose this if you want a balanced increase to Survivability, Damage, and Sustain.

Item Comparison Test (Accelerate Phase 4)

The purpose of this section is to figure out the fastest way to maximize Chronos' DPS with Items.

The Test

Target: Jungle Practice Gold Fury
Attack Cycle: Accelerate / Stop Time / Time Rift - As soon as Accelerate ends (8 seconds), the cycle is over. This is performed each during Phase 3 and 4 of the Wheel of Time to find out which is superior in each situation.
Player Levels: 8 (item #2), 12 (item #3), 16 (item #4), 20 (item #5).

I selected various items at each Item # and compared their DPS, Gold Cost, and DPS/Gold Cost. I multiply the DPS/Gold Cost by x1000 for easier viewing. So it represents DPS gained per 1000g spent.

With Item #1 already decided ( Shoes of Focus), I began comparing Items at Item #2.

KEY = Weakest Result - Notable Result - Strongest Result

Item #2

The contestants:

The Results:

Gem of Binding: (6th)
  • Time Rift Damage: 234(p3) / 218(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 204(P3) / 188(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 35(P3) / 54(P4)
  • Cost: 2850
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 12(P3) / 19(P4)
  • Note: The Gem loses by a long shot in terms of DPS and it's cost just completely throws it out. Though it is mainly for utility, with HP and Slows.

Focused Void Stone: (5th)
  • Time Rift Damage: 272(p3) / 255(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 236(P3) / 220(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 54(P3) / 74(P4)
  • Cost: 2350
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 23(P3) / 32(P4)
  • Note: Focused Void Stone actually provides some good Ability Damage, but doesn't boost Auto-Attacks enough to make up for it. If you're playing against Magic Gods with Defenses though, it's still a great choice.

Bancroft's Talon: (2nd place Tie)
  • Time Rift Damage: 294(p3) / 266(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 236(P3) / 222(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 55(P3) / 82(P4)
  • Cost: 2400
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 23(P3) / 34(P4)
  • Note: Bancroft's Talon actually has the greatest Ability Damage (behind Tahuti), even though it's overall Value isn't is great as the winner. This can be valuable in the early game though, so don't count it out as an option. Lifesteal, and Increased Damage with Lost health must also be considered.

Rod of Tahuti: (2nd place Tie)
  • Time Rift Damage: 309(p3) / 285(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 274(P3) / 252(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 81(P3) / 54(P4)
  • Cost: 3320
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 24(P3) / 39(P4)
  • Note: While Rod of Tahuti provides the greatest increase in Ability Damage and Overall DPS, it's cost brings it just short of winning in terms of Gold Value.

Demonic Grip: (2nd place Tie)
  • Time Rift Damage: 268(p3) / 252(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 220(P3) / 218(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 57(P3) / 83(P4)
  • Cost: 2280
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 25(P3) / 36(P4)
  • Note: A solid Damage increase at a great Gold Cost brings Demonic Grip to 2nd place.

Polynomicon: (1st Place)
  • Time Rift Damage: 238(p3) / 221(P4)
  • Stop Time Damage: 208(P3) / 192(P4)
  • DPS Increase: 82(P3) / 95(P4)
  • Cost: 2300
  • DPS/Gold(Value): 36(P3) / 41(P4)
  • Note: While actually being second worst in terms of Ability damage, Polynomicon wins best Value IF you can play it well. Well spaced ability use is a must to land each of it's passive effects. The 300 mana is also great to have early game. If you don't think you can land it's passive effect well, choose one of the 2nd place Items.

(THE REST COMING SOON)

Tactics

Early Game

  • Be very careful and make your skill shots count.
  • Use Accelerate during phase 1 and 2 for stronger sustain.
  • When clearing Minion Waves, use Accelerate phase 2, then Stop Time across the wave, and finish with Time Rift on the Archers. You can't target the entire wave with Time Rift unless a Tank pulls them together, so make it count. Archers die the quickest and deal the most damage.
  • Time Rift and Stop Time will be your main damage dealers at this point. If you need burst, use Accelerate phase 3 in conjunction with them.
  • Poke at enemy gods with Time Rift when able and high on mana.
  • Holdout and survive, you need to level to gain the advantage.

Mid Game

  • Pretty much the same as Early Game, continue focusing on leveling.
  • Once you hit Lv14 and obtain Items #3 and #4, you can begin activating Accelerate phase 4 to unleash high damage against enemy gods.
  • Time Rift will start clearing minions very effectively.
  • If you chose Polynomicon, you'll need to be careful spacing out your skills to get the most of out it. It's very powerful when used correctly, but can limit how you use skills.

Late Game

  • Once you obtain Item #5, you should be able to attack enemy gods with confidence.
  • Item #6 will be the icing on the cake. Feel very confident!
  • With Fatalis, activating Accelerate will allow you to Auto-Attack while moving backwards faster than your opponents can charge you. This is very effective with phase 4 Wheel of Time.
  • Against non-Tanks, you should be able to cast Accelerate phase 4, charge them, Stop Time, and then finish them with Basic Attacks. If they survive and get out of Auto-Attack range, use Time Rift to attempt to finish.

"Hoarder" MOTD

  • If you get to experience this MOTD with Chronos, you will really understand his Late Game power.
  • Since you will have all Items from the start of the game, your Ability Leveling Order is much different. Grab each ability once, than focus on Accelerate only. Stop Time is your second focus, than Rewind. Time Rift I mainly find useful for minions.
  • From the start of the match you can begin using Accelerate Phase 4 to take down enemies like an Assassin.

I was thinking of making a chronos guide since I hit rank 10 last night, but i am way to lazy. This is by far the closest to what I have found to be optimal. The only few qualms I have with it are item order, and you actually recommend the awful gem of iso.

For the item order I go boots > poly > rod > fatalis > grip > survival situational. The boot you get are both equally viable the pen boots are perfect for earlygame snowballing which is what I prefer. However the cd boots are better sustained damage if you don't like the hit and run thing. The reason I go poly > rod is for the crazy burst it gives from lvl 8 > 14. If you don't at least have poly your damage is trash until you do as your autos are only hitting for 60s with your wheel on 4 and a grip. However with a rod and poly your procs hit for 300~ along with all the added magical damage.

The reason I hate the gem on chronos is simple it lowers YOUR maneuverability. Allow me to explain as its probably not that obvious if you don't realize reasons you have died. When you are chasing someone, you are so fast you will not lose ground when attacking them so they should not be escaping. However more often then not their teammates are chasing you. If you are slowing your target, you are essentially slowing yourself this is bad form and can get you killed. The same applies when you are running while backpedaling. If you slow them they will get out of your auto range, which lowers your damage unless you stop running as fast. This allows more of the enemy chasers(with probable stuns/gap closers) to catch up. Unless you stop attacking all together to lose the fatalis stacks which is equally bad.

The other things you should mention is that chronos has some of the most brutal ganks due to the utility of his ult and the massive stun range. For example you are yanking a side lane and you come in from the entrance infront of their tower while they are at yours. You run at them while activating wheel 4 then 3 > auto > 1 then q couple more autos. They will waste their **** on you as you ult not only getting all your CDs and hp back, but you also position yourself infront of their escape path. You can do the same kind of **** to ruin their goldfury attempt. Run into melee range, 3 > 1 their squishy, then run as 2 of them chase. You ult like 6 seconds later and blow up the two still killing the fury at low hp and run like the troll you are.

Now I am not anywhere near the best chronos player, but I have a 83% conquest win rate even after losing my first 5 games of smite playing as him he was not exactly lvl 1 player friendly, to much going on when everything is brand new.

Nice! Pretty useful and unique.

Why don't you add some screen shots of all the abilities. That may help people who haven't played him yet.

Well done though.

Good Guide. Situational Items really make it stand out. I'm still cautious about Fatalis but I'll have to give it a try. Great to see some videos too!

This is the best guide on here for chronos, all the others are incorrect and will never have a strong enough late game.

I kinda don't want people to know about this fatalis build honestly, it's too strong.
