Contest of Gods
Contest of Gods provides bonus power to the player on her team with the most player damage dealt. Discordia starts the game with the buff. The power boost is solid, 45 physical power or 65 magical power when Discordia is max level. There is not a lot to consider with the passive, it's effective but forgettable. Unruly Magic
Unruly Magic sends forth a line projectile that deals damage and breaks into 6 smaller projectiles at the end, which deal damage and bounce off walls. This is Discordia's main damage and wave clear ability. To achieve the best wave clear, Discordia can stand at the front of the wave and launch Unruly Magic, ending at the archers, and breaking on the archers dealing bonus damage to them. That said, she must stand in the wave, which could be dangerous. Discordia often lets her opponent clear before her, so she can then safely clear. As for team fights, Unruly Magic is more effective in jungle fights with more walls for the minor projectiles to bounce from. Strife
Strife creates a rectangle that deals damage. If there is only 1 enemy hit, they will be rooted. If there are 2 or more enemies hit, they will begin attacking each other (they don't use their own basic attack damage, rather your ability damage). Strife is generally your first ability cast to group up targets and keep them in place. It can sometimes be difficult to land, because of the delay after casting and medium-small size. But the disorienting effect the ability creates makes up for it. Erratic Behavior
Erratic Behavior creates a small pool which Discordia leaps into. When inside the pool, Discordia is made invisible, and reduces the cooldowns of Unruly Magic and Strife every half second. The pool lasts for 5 seconds. While it may not seem like an incredible ability, it will eventually become your favorite ability, because the leap makes Discordia untargetable. A well-timed leap can avoid certain death, surviving 
Spirit of the Nine Winds, I'm a Monster!, or even 
Hovering Death. Keep in mind that Discordia is only untargetable, so abilities like 
Fire Shards will still hit. But, this survivability aspect of this ability is absolutely incredible. And the cooldown reduction is essential to Discordia's kit. It allows her to spam abilities very often. Golden Apple of Discord is a projectile which travels forth, bouncing off walls until hitting an enemy. The target is intoxicated and crippled for 2 seconds, after which they explode, taking damage. Enemies in the explosion radius are then intoxicated and crippled for 3 seconds, and also explode. The real kicker is that the ability *forces enemies hit to enter the VGS for "I'm the Greatest".* Then, enemies hit by the detonation will respond "No! I'm the Greatest". Does it effect gameplay? Probably not. But it is hilarious to think about? Of course. Anyway, the damage the ability deals is fairly low. The cripple and intoxication is are the big gains, which makes it very difficult to control movement and avoid attacks. Discordia is CC immune while the apple is in her hands, which is very useful to quickly avoid a set-up ability or turn around a fight. The projectile is somewhat slow traveling, so it takes a bit of prediction to hit. Erratic Behavior to spam Unruly Magic and Strife. Thus, her combo typically goes Strife - Unruly Magic - (if safe) Erratic Behavior - Strife - Unruly Magic. Golden Apple of Discord is largely a safety or disruption tool that is always justified in the moment. Only playtime can teach you when the proper time to use the apple is. If Strife hits multiple targets, it could be a good time to use Golden Apple of Discord because it travels slowly, and you are sure to hit a target while they are grouped up, and it can easily spread.
Unruly Magic at level 1. It has the highest damage with the lowest cooldown, and is your primary clear ability. At level 2, you'll likely pick up Strife to increase pressure as the enemy jungler will group up with their mid-laner. However, it is entirely acceptable to unlock Erratic Behavior if the enemies have too much pressure, and you need a leap. Unlock the last missing normal ability, then start to level Unruly Magic. When available, upgrade Golden Apple of Discord. After maxing the level of Unruly Magic, level up Strife, and finally level up Erratic Behavior. Golden Apple of Discord can sometimes finish off an enemy after a skirmish. Contest of Gods can sometimes skew a duel into your team's favor just slightly. Unruly Magic and Strife are great for hitting targets over the walls, and they ensure safety when moving forward. Each level with Discordia matters because Erratic Behavior multiplies an abilities damage. That said, her objective secure/damage is bad. However, Golden Apple of Discord can disrupt an enemies' objective attempt long enough for your team to interrupt the enemy objective burn or secure. Golden Apple of Discord is also great during jungle fights because it is more likely to hit bouncing off jungle walls. Erratic Behavior pool during chaotic team fights.
Sands of Time into Pendulum of Ages is the reliable start strong through the entire game. The cooldown reduction early on helps her survivability and the mp5 keeps her topped up with her spam-able abilities. On top of that, Pendulum of Ages provides lots of power at max mana. If you are not as familiar with Discordia, I recommend this starter and its build path.
The Alternate Timeline is generally not a relevant upgrade.
Conduit Gem into 
Gem of Focus creates a more V-shaped graph on the strength through the game graph. Early on, it helps clear wave. But towards the mid-game, the flat damage falls off in efficacy. Then, once upgraded into Gem of Focus, the efficacy spikes back up. Gem of Focus provides bonus damage and movement speed for every ability cast, which should be stacked for the entire fight, with Discordia's non-stop ability use. This start is less recommended because of its difficult mid-game.
Book of Thoth is a stacking item which is very strong right now. It provides lots of power, penetration, and mana which synergizes with the current meta item Tablet of Destinies. It’s important to get this item early and start stacking.
Tablet of Destinies is the hot item right now which provides bonus damage in a similar manner to Soul Reaver, but it’s based on stacks gained from hitting targets, which scale on your max mana. The difference between it and Soul Reaver, is that Tablet of Destinies deals true damage, which ignores protections. Focus on getting stacks as soon as possible by hitting enemies.
Charon's Coin is one of two 20% penetration items, along with Obsidian Shard. I prefer Charon’s Coin because it gives movement speed.
Obsidian Shard is the alternate to Charon’s Coin. It gives bonus penetration on the first ability cast every 10 seconds.
Soul Reaver deals bonus damage on abilities based on targets’ health. It is a strong item that should be built every game.
Soul Gem works on Discordia due to her spammy abilities and helps her survivability. She can proc Soul Gem very frequently which synergizes with Tablet of Destinies and Soul Reaver, and it also provides a burst heal which can be helpful in fights.
Divine Ruin is an important item because it applies anti-heal, and it’s even better now with its passive that chains between enemies. It also provides flat penetration which is powerful against squishy enemies.
Spear of the Magus is a great item for Discordia because Strife can easily set up for more damage from Discordia and her teammates. Once again, flat penetration items are great for killing squishy targets, and Spear of the Magus is a great option for bursting any squishy, or setting up for a team effort burn onto a tank.
Calamitous Rod of Tahuti is my personal favorite glyph item. It fits so well on Discordia because Strife lasts 1 second - the exact time it takes for the meteor land. It'll likely hit multiple targets as well. On top of that, 
Rod of Tahuti is a great item. It's expensive, yes, but you gain a lot. 120 power, 10% penetration, and a great passive. Strife and Unruly Magic and uses the invisibility in Erratic Behavior to maximum efficacy.
