Disclaimer

This is a guide/explanation for Anhur and his kit, not a guide for how to play the ADC role. If you are looking to learn the ADC role I suggest you check out Branmuffin17’s “Overarching Conquest Guide for season 7”. This guide is intended for conquest but also applies to most other team fighting game modes. I also use strong language and crude humor in this guide, so if that offends you go somewhere else.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Saltypenguin. Most other guide creators always list their credentials before posting a high-quality guide so you can "Trust them". So, Should you trust me with this information I'm about to give you? Absolutely not! I suck at this game just like you do, but do not be afraid, a smite character that will save all of us plebs is here, and his name is Anhur.

Are you an ADC player? Are you sick and tired of farming for 20 minutes before you do anything useful? Are you looking for a god that can fire more than 2 autos before dying to the front line? Well, have I got a character for you. INTRODUCING ANHUR, AN ADC'S WET DREAM!

Passive: Sharp Spears Do Big Damage

Anhur is not a traditional hunter with an attack speed steroid that relies only on his silly little auto attacks to do damage. Instead, Anhur is a utility character with a surprisingly good amount of cc. He has a very useful passive that allows him to box in the early game, reducing the enemy target's Physical Protection by 20 for 3 seconds every time you hit an auto, impale, or ultimate. The enemy ADC is going to start with around 12 physical protections in the early game while the enemy support is going to start off with about 20 physical protections. This means that for the first 5 minutes of the game your auto attacks are going to be absolutely slapping your foes in lane.

Abiltiy 2: Anhur Throw Bigger Spear

Anhur’s main damaging ability is “Impale”. Impale if stupid good for any situation. First of all, it does a Juicy amount of damage starting at 90 flat and scaling up to 350 plus 80% of your physical power in the late game. It’s a get off me tool for Junglers or anyone chasing you, and an "I’m going to stun you against a wall for 1.5 seconds" tool for the laning phase and while chasing enemies. Once you get good enough with this ability, you can auto-attack cancel with it, allowing you to throw out an auto, then impale, and then immediately throw out another auto for insane burst damage.

Ability 3: Anhur Position to Throw More Spears

His leap “Disperse” is nuts, first, because he can jump over walls. Only 3 other ADC characters can jump over or go through walls (Izanami, Ullr, and Hou Yi for anyone that is curious). This allows you to separate yourself from most other ADCs and enemies very effectively. The leap is already good enough by itself, but on top of that it also knocks back enemies where you land. While the enemies are in the air, they are defenseless, so go ahead and impale them into a wall for good measure. BUT I hear you non-believers saying “what if the jungler just jumps over the wall after you what are you gonna do then huhh. You are correct in assuming that a lot of junglers have jumps/leaps, so here is what you do to counter that. If the jungle chases you over a wall or barrier just impale them into the wall you just jumped over. EZ

Ultimate: Anhur throw 8 Spears Really Fast

Now let’s get to the AMAZING ULTIMATE “Desert Fury”. The damage on this ability in the late game is 170 (+30% of your physical power) per spear. Anhur throws 8 spears meaning that you will be doing roughly 2000 damage with this ability late game, assuming you hit all your spears. First, the range is long at 70 units (15 more than a basic attack) and it can go through walls, making it safe. In the early game, it can act as an instant wave clear if you are getting out-poked. Mid game and late game it can both shred anyone that your squad CC’s and it acts as a secure for Gold Fury and Fire Giant if your mid lane mage fails at their only job. Did I mention that you are CC immune while casting it? A small problem for us Plebeians however, there is a little bit of a delay while casting this ability making it hard to hit, so it is best to aim it at objectives or enemies that are CC'd while learning the character.

Ability 1: Giant Spear erupt from Ground

Don't worry, don't worry, I heard all of you yelling "Why did you skip over the first ability, you idiot." Well, we are here now and I wanted to save this one for last. We arrive at the reason I have become so fond of this character lately... his pillar. NO, not the one in his pants, the ability you perverts. I was once a young innocent lad like you, thinking “why is Anhur’s pillar so good, it’s almost impossible to pull off the 1, 2 combo and it’s trash loser. THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE WRONG KIDDO. Do you see the 1,2 combo? You see all your favorite pro players and grandmasters hitting it like it is nothing? Do you want to do that and compete in the SPL one day?... forget about that ****, absolutely useless unless you're a god at the game, which sadly in our case most of us are not.

The bright side is that the pillar is amazing by itself! First of all, it makes you hit anyone harder who is standing in the slow by 8% in the early game scaling up to 20% in the late game. And the actual pillar in the middle is useless compared to the 35% SLOW in a circle HALF THE SIZE OF A LANE surrounding it. Most people underestimate how strong the slow is allowing you to hit them with 5 autos before they even get near you. The pillar in the middle is a smaller Ymir wall if used right, it can block the pathing of an enemy if used against a wall. If you are boxing the other ADC and you have both used your excapes, you just use your 35% slow and 20% damage increase to **** em up. Also if you are getting outboxed, you can turn around and place the pillar at your feet while running to block all other incoming auto-attacks from the enemy ADC.

You Don't Think This Character is Broken Yet???

Assuming you’re not playing on 200 ping, with a little practice you should be able to hit his entire kit. This god has more utility than a guardian. Replace the Desert Fury ult with a xing ult and base stats and you have the best support/ warrior in the game. He can secure like a mage, peal like a support, counter-play the jungler, chase like a warrior, and auto-attack like an ADC. Anhur can build both crit and tank shredder builds comfortably and can work well with both the Transcendence and Devourer's gauntlet starting builds. It doesn’t matter that “he doesn’t have an attack speed steroid in his kit”, do you know when attack speed steroids mattered? They mattered back in season 5 when you couldn’t sell boots for the elixir of speed.
Nowadays every ADC has 6 items, with full power, and full attack speed by late game. So utility and safety in an ADC’s kit are the most important factors to a good ADC player.

And there is one more thing to top off this sweet cake of a god I call Anhur. His kit allows you to stay in the fight doing consistent damage for as long as possible. Unlike other ADCs that have to dash away and wait 10 seconds to rejoin the fight before their leap is up again. Anhur can just be chillin there, slowing the enemy solo laner by 35%, impaling the enemy jungler away, and single-handedly destroying the enemy front line at the same time. Ohh and finally when the rest of his kit is down, THEN he has a leap to say “NOPE I’M OUT OF HERE” any time he pleases.

I know what you're saying in your whiny little pathetic voice, “he's slow and the enemy mage can 1 shot you cause your squishy. Ok so let’s say that you just 1v4ed, and you’re low health and your team is sitting in the fountain marveling at your greatness. It’s a 1v1 against you and the enemy mage now. The mage sneaks up and dumps their entire kit on you, but guess what! You still have Beads and Ageis you sly ****er, and you ****ing w key at them like you own the place while spam laughing and then ram your ****ing spear up their *** until they look like the end scene of a ****ing hentai!

GG my son, you just won the game.

Conclusion

So yea A+ character, feeling quirky, might play him in the next tournament who knows. Also if you think there is an ADC that is better utility wise, hit me up. (And if you got offended with this guide, feel free to critique it in the comments.)

Trans crit build path I would go with: Ninja > Trans > Asi > Exe > Rage > Deathbringer > Wind Demon.

Devos crit build path I would go with: Ninja > Devo's > Exe / Rage (Either order) > Wind Demon > Deathbringer > Asi/Titans/Toxic.

Last thing in ADC I recommend multi pots over mana pots for your starter.

The Crit builds look a bit strange to me.

For starters, Toxic Blade seems unnecessary. Your goal in a Crit build should be to burst enemies down as quickly as possible. Your window of attack won't (or at least shouldn't) be providing them with enough time to get a significant amount of healing off.

Also, while Deathbringer is a solid item, Wind Demon could perhaps give you better function, especially considering Anhur's lack of Attack Speed.

And finally, with the Trans Crit build, I think you're delaying your Asi a bit too long. For Crit builds I would recommend sticking with Devourer's Gauntlet.

You're probably right about the build. I tend to like toxic blade however because everyone has healing these days and that little bit of extra movement speed has saved me more than once.

Sometimes there's just not a best solution, and you have to deal with it. Compromise, basically.

In this case, you might consider a couple of things...
  1. Crit builds rely heavily on power for DPS. Your base damage is multiplied, so the higher the power, the more significant the crit. In the case of wanting anti-heal, Toxic Blade isn't the worst choice, but it's also not really synergistic with crits since it has no power. The AS and flat pen aren't bad at all, though.

  2. Brawler's Beat Stick is the other main anti-heal item, and in some ways wouldn't be bad to purchase due to the good power and flat pen. However, since it applies only on ability damage and Anhur's pillar doesn't deal damage, it means you either have to engage with his jump or have to hit his spear or ult to get the effect...neither of which is optimal, especially if you want to apply anti-heal to multiple targets in a teamfight. You also can consider Cursed Ankh, but no, you shouldn't consider.

  3. So it goes back to DV-8's point, which is basically "do you even need anti-heal?" For a high DPS god, that heal is unlikely to do anything more than 1 non-crit basic at end build. To me, that's not really worth it. Leave the anti-heal to the front-line tanks with Contagion / Pestilence, and the back-line mages who can easily apply with Divine Ruin...and maybe the occasional Solo or Jungle with Brawler's Beat Stick.
In general the other builds all look solid to me, especially the tank shredders. I do agree that Wind Demon would be a good option over Toxic for the MS and AS in the crit build.

Trans crit builds are always a bit awkward to me, not that I don't promote them situationally. For Anhur, you want that high % damage to burst after the 1-2 combo so Rage + Deathbringer makes a lot of sense...but those builds have fairly low AS so adding WD would be nice. And Asi that late in a build will make things difficult outside of a single engagement, as you have no way to heal up from nearby waves or camps. That means more risk by staying out, or having to back much more often.

As DV-8 was alluding, you might consider WD in DB's spot, and maybe picking up DB as a Tabi replacement. I'm sure you'll appreciate the passive WD boost a bit earlier.

BTW, uh...entertaining writeup. I like your explanations though they're a bit crude =P I'm trash with Anhur...probably need to play him more to get better with him...I'm one of those that when fighting, my brain defaults to "gotta hit that 1-2 combo" even though I know that's both difficult and not required to do well with him. He's much more of a positioning and timing god than some other ADCs, and that's probably why I struggle with him.
