Highlighting manually in the front page or something like that may be a good solution. We - Da plebs - can't definitely change the situation (nor the Orangenies, Veterans or Moderators). We need the Overlords to change the site architecture first. And well, we're getting a new Overlord soon. Maybe things will change.
But, how do we go about making sure the good ones get highlighted, and start to outshine the bad ones?
I have a suggestion.
There's an empty space that's on the right of Top Guides from the Past 30 days above the Videos and Streams.
The new Red OverlordCommunity Manager could make a new tab in the empty space mentioned above that could be called Guides Recommended by the SF Editors. Or just people like Bran, Bernie, GGF, ZeroStrike, Zilby, DucksRock, and Prism. Basically the DucksRock blog on the front page in an easy-to access format. (Apologies if I missed anyone)
All (or most) of them would look through each guide of each god, decide which is the best, tell them how to improve it, and once they have put it in the new tab. Also, anyone know when we'll know who the new Overlord is??
It's a good idea. And you missed Techno. Maybe Stuke, but he has a lot of guides.

I hate to be that guy, but that space isn't actually supposed to be empty, it's empty for you because (I assume) you're using adblock.
Having featured guides on the front page shouldn't be hard to implement considering other network sites have it as well, but it would most likely need to replace the "Newest/Updated" guides module or the one next to it which shows the top guides of the last 30 days.

Without being able to give you a clear answer to this question (since I'm not personally in charge of hiring the new staff members), I just want to clarify that part of the reason it might take a little longer than usual is because we're hiring for three sites at once (HeroesFire, SMITEFire & VaingloryFire). You should expect those CM positions to be filled in that order.
Until then, I'm afraid you're stuck with me :D
As for a more general response to this topic, it sucks to see these kind of comments, but I have an issue moreso with the phrasing of it than the point they're trying to make. Due to the nature of SMITEFire and our other network sites (where everyone is able to make guides, and everyone's vote on those guides is considered equal), it is definitely possible for a bad guide to attain a spot it doesn't deserve.
The main advantage our site has over stat-driven sites which only display builds is the depth of our guides, but readers should still make sure to assess whether a guide author can be trusted based on whether or not the author has a lot of experience playing the God(dess) and/or has shown to be able to use the build successfully at a respectable level of play. If neither of those is the case, the guide could still contain useful tips, but I'd be hesitant to copy the build without at least testing some alternatives as well.
As said, I guess I just wish people would be able to say something along those lines rather than taking their - possibly genuine - concerns and turning them into a lazy "avoid it lol" kind of comment.

Would it be possible/good idea if we could implement a way to link up SF accounts to Smite Guru stats (without actually manually putting in the link in the guide) to show people that we do have experience playing with gods that we make guides on? I think it could help show people the experience the guide is coming from.
The thing that Bernardo has going there seems pretty good.
You could move the ad someplace else if you don't want to lose the revenue of it.
Also @newbiemj just as an fyi, signatures only have a max. height. You might want to change yours a small bit. (Work left/right instead of top/bottom, maybe?)
SMITEFire is the place to find the perfect build guide to take your game to the next level. Learn how to play a new god, or fine tune your favorite SMITE gods’s build and strategy.
