Introduction

This is a Zeus build, with do's and don'ts when it comes to building and playing him

Items and purchase order

Start
Start your game with buuying Vampiric Shroud for the sustain of health and Lost Artifact for the mana and extrra bit of power. Use the rest of your money to get the potts you think you'll be needing. Probably 1 of each if u play passively or 2 healing potion or 1 healing potion and 1 multi potion if you decide to be aggressive.

First back
Make sure that you don't back untill you can buy Shoes of the Magi and 2 Wards. If you think you'll be needing a mana/healing potion you will have to wait for more gold. Do not back before you have earned 1700 gold.

Early game Phase 1
After you have completed your Shoes of the Magi, your lane pressure will be heavily increased and you are more safe now that you have wards. Next up your list will be Warlock's Sash Warlock's Sash, because you'll get killed easily. The extra sustain from it's passive keeps you alive for a longer time, which gives you more time to damage or even kill your oponent before they (can) kill you. Make sure you back immediately when you can afford Warlock's Sash Warlocks Sash. Even better is when you have the money to buy a ward.

Early game phase 2
After you have Warlock's Sash Warlocks Sash you'll be farming efficiently to build up stacks and get the extra sustain. Go for Spear of the Magus next and follow it up by buying Aegis if you can.

Mid game Phase 1
Next up on my list is getting Bancroft's Tallon Bancroft's Tallon, which allows you to deal massive amounts of damage to opponents as well as keeping yourself alive. At the same time you should (be able to) finish Aegis Pendant.

Late game
This is when Zeus is gonna shine most. Build Chronos Pendant Chronos Pendant out of Lost Artifact. Do not sell your Vampiric shroud before Chronos Pendant Chronos Pendant and only to finish Rod of Tahuti, not to get Restored Artifact. Do not sell Vampiric Shroud if you don't have to in order to get Chronos Pendant Chronos Pendant. After a short while you can get Greater Purification.

Late game Phase 2
This is the Phase that normally doesnt make it. But if you do, sell your Vamprirc Shroud Vampiric Shroud (if not already done) And start building that Soul Reaver or the Rod of Tahuti in order to get your oponents lower and lower.

Skillorder and usage

Skill order

Always start the game of with your Aegis Assault unless you suspect you are getting invaded, in which case you should be putting a point into your Chain Lightning for the slow.
After your Aegis Assault comes your Chain Lightening, or reversed. This is because you will have to start clearing lanes in order to be present at mid camps. Having your 3 online does not help you unless you are playing Zeus jungle. The poke has as result that you will not be able to clear waves.
Then you can start maxing your Chain Lightning and Detonate Charge. this could be equally maxed out, although I suggest you first put four points into you Chain Lightning and then max the Detonate charge. Depending on the cooldown on your ult, you can level your ult hen you want to use it. If it is on cooldown for over 30 seconds or you don''t think you are going to be using it for offensive plays soon, level your Chain Lightning and Detonate Charge. ALthough at levekl 5 always get your ultimate. It can give you a return kill or even save your ***.

Skill usage

Aegis Assault and Chain Lightning
To really shine as a Zeus player, you will have to understand the most powerfull combo's with Zeus.
Your Aegis Assault makes your basic attacks split and deal damage to all enemies in range. Throw the bility on the middle of the wave after first attacking them in order to stack them up. This you do to make sure the ability hits the entire wave and to make sure all minions are hit by the basic attack splits. If the enemie has control over the wave, throw Aegis Assault as the wave is still going, dealing damage to the first minions and the first (2) archers. Then throw your Chain Lightening as you start attacking the archers with you basic attacks via the shield, spreading your basic attacks over all 3 archers. Try to clear good enough so that you will not have to use you Detonate Charge. This ability is mana hungry and is the perfect poke ability and not meant for clearing lanes.

Next to clearing lanes, your Aegis Assault can be perfectly used to make sure your Chain Lightning hits the enemy gods. If you are not good at aiming slow abilities, use the shield to place a stable place for you to hit enemies. When you can hit them twice by the Chain Lightening bouncing off of the shield again, you can start ulting or basic attacking them.

Detonate CHarge: Never use Detonate Charge as a lane clearer if not necessary. On top of that make sure your opponent has at least 2 charges on him. If not, do not waste your mana for the low damage, unless you can secure kills with it.

Lightening Storm: Use Lightening Storm not only as a major damage dealing ability, but also as zoning tool. The massive damages it dealsover time can stop enemies from reaching you or from being forced to walk away from you if already close to you. This may keep you alive or at least give you a return kill, which is better then just dying.

Pros / Cons & Teamwork

Pros:

  • Potential for baiting and oneshotting enemies with his 2-1-(4-)3 combo.
  • Massive damage.
  • If you survive the early game without feeding, your are in a good position.
  • Incredible zoning tool for keeping enemies off of Gold Fury or Fire Giant.

Cons:
  • Not likely to escape when getting ganked.
  • After using all your abilities you are useless in a fight and likely to be focussed down first.
  • As Zeus you deal high damage, but have no escapes, so expect enemies to focus you down at all times. Make sure you have a support or tnky solo laner who can protect you.
Extra Remark: Zeus is best used in a 4 pritect one strategy, because this way he can use his abilities to damage oponents without getting focussed down. make sure that if you die, you always take someone with you. Never die with your ult up, unless you are 10% health vs 100% health. THen you have to work about positioning.

Positioning

Zeus has no escapes and shines in dealing damage. Make sure you are never to close to walls, so that you can try to juke abilities and have as much space for escaping as you will be needing.
When in team fights make sure you are never the front line and are always close enough to deal the massive damage Zeus is known for.

You have a mistake in your calculations :

it's 3% of your total mana, not 30%.
1125 mana x 0.03 = 33.75 mp, so rounded to 34 power.
If we add the base 100 mp, this only item, with max stacks, will give you 134 power.

Still the third best item for mp, and better than Warlock's Sash on that stat.
But never as broken as giving you 467.5 mp for a single item.

Thank you very much for the correction. I had a feeling something wasn't right lol much appreciated

Beside the calcs, warlocks's sash is way better for survival, as it gives health as well. Late game the stacks can make or break a fight.

So I did some math and this is what I came up with including numbers.

Shoes of Focus:
+30mp
+250 mana
+15%cool down
Book of Thoth:
+100mp
+125mana
+15mps
+10 mana per stack so max stacks at 75 is +750 mana. At this point WITH MAX Stacks you have 1125 mana. Thoth gives 3% of mana as mag. Power so that equates to +337.5 mp from just total mana. If other mp is added you have 467.5 mp from just first 2 items at MAX Stacks.
Spear of Magus:
+40 mp
+15 pen
Polynomicon:
+75 mp
+10% lifesteal
+300mp name
Now your mana is at 1475 so your power increases to 572.5
Chronos Pendant:
+75mp
+25mps and +25%CD which gives max CDMA
Rod of Tahuti:
+125mp
+15mps and +25% increase to max power.
Total mp is now at 772.5 before 25% is added. After 25% is added it's at 965.625
With pen at 15 and lifesteal at 10.

I will now layout the sash.
Warlocks Sash:
+50 mp
+300 health
+400 mana
Extra 300 health at MAX Stacks
Extra 60 mp at MAX Stacks

So in conclusion, the sash offers a total boost of 600 health but only 110 power at MAX Stacks while the book offers over 300 power and a massive boost to mana and mana regen. I can't see the better benefit to the sash over thoth. If anyone sees anything incorrect please feel free to comment and correct me but from my calculations this would be the order and build I would use because of the Massive power increases and immense mana pool.

First of all thanks for your comment in the first place, but with this renewed build I do not see myself as Zeus player stay alive. You have no Warlocks to increase your health (regen) and Bancroft's/Poly is your 5th item. This makes it extremely hard to stay alive I find. On top of that you are having Rod, Chronos and Book. That is an insane ammount of mana(regen) which I never need. So I think you either need to build Bancroft's before Chronos Pendant, which you actually do not want, or you gott let go of one of your mana items, cuz else u gonna die I am afraid. Please tell me what you think of that!

Sorry it took so long to reply, the holidays have been quite busy.
I can understand the concern for overstacking mana but Thoth does give you power to go along with each mana stack as well as the lack of need for camps. Warlocks is a good item but I've found from my experience that the boost from Thoth out plays the sash not only early on but also in the long run. I could be wrong so I will post some calculations to either confirm or deny my assumptions.

I noticed you used icons all throughout the guide instead, that's rather time consuming! xD

So I can type the zeus code and it gives me all the icons already or how does it exactly work? Because I searched all Mobafire for it, but couldnt find much of this kind of editting, only the (icon=...) stuff.

Thanks for the comments guys!! This way I can improve my Zeus plays! Although I am not a fan on double stacking with a god who does not want to be farming all game long, but the Chronos PendantChronos Pendant In stead of the Soul Reaver should then give him the insane mana-regen and switching Obsidian for Spear might be good as well, thanks!!

I'm sad to see Zeus switched from a basic attack build to stereotypical build
1
Zilby (132) | December 19, 2015 11:19pm
Honestly the original build is preferable to that, although it should use Spear of the Magus rather than Obsidian Shard (provides better penetration and damage since Zeus can easily build the stacks with his Chain Lightning). Would also recommend Greater Purification rather than aegis or Combat Blink. Either of those make for fairly good second actives, but Greater Purification is incredibly powerful. Also you might want to include Chronos' Pendant as an alternative to Soul Reaver since cooldowns are quite powerful.

@Pk, there's a couple problems with the build you presented.
1) Zeus has a super high damage output, but he has little to no survivability since he lacks an escape. Lifesteal is essential for staying alive since he has no other means of doing so, same goes for other immobile damage gods like Anubis.
2) You have no penetration! Penetration is essential for damage due to the way its calculated, you'll actually be able to deal more damage from Spear of the Magus' penetration than any of your last 4 items, squishy gods and tanks alike.
3) Build order. Rod of Tahuti is a great item. It's also very expensive and gains power depending on how many power items you already have. This makes it more desirable as a 5th or 6th item, compared to your 4th. I'd bump Chronos' Pendant higher up in your build order if you still want that item, CDR is really helpful around mid-game when more teamfights are breaking out.
4) Book of Thoth is helpful, but not essential. Because you need the items mentioned above, you really need to choose between Book of Thoth and warlock's sash. Book of Thoth is great early game giving you a lot of mana to work with and great instantaneous power. warlock's sash is better late game giving you a much larger health pool and comparable power, although you will need to manage your mana reserves better early game with this item.

Overall I'd replace one of your stacking items with a lifesteal item and either Chronos' Pendant or Soul Reaver with Spear of the Magus, and rework your build order accordingly. Hope this helps!

I am very disappointed to not see book of Thoth in this build. Zeus is very mana hungry and I find it a must to keep him competitive. Also I have a Rank 10 Diamond Zeus.
My build is as follows:
Shoes of Focus
Book of Thoth
Warlocks sash
Rod of Tahuti
Chronos Pendant
Soul reaver
