Vamana Build

Starter

Notes Vamana gains extra power for a percentage of his physical prots. Buying Warrior's Axe immediately gives him a power boost as well as making him tankier. Though your clear will not be the best, I suggest this start for the power buff and the upgrade(s). Chalice/pots for sustain. Blink for engage/aggression. Thorns for aggression/pressure. Beads for Safety.

Notes Attack speed makes you auto faster in your ult allowing you to keep up with your target and get a lot of damage off. Pots for sustain, or wards for vision/safety.

Notes Mystical Mail will increase your clear and make up for you not picking up Bluestone. The pressure in lane and when boxing will be very high and the prots transfer to some power making you stronger.

Notes Mystical Mail is still a worth item even against a magical solo laner. You still gain power from the item and it helps with you clear and boxing potential.

Notes Hide of the Urchin early on is best on Vamana so you can build those stacks and get that extra power. The stats on it are nice as well, giving you health and mana as well as magical prots.

Notes Talisman of Energy will make you and your teammates move faster and attack faster upon you receiving a kill or an assist. Helping you keep on the pursuit when you're ulting.

Notes Caduceus Shield is great on Vamana because of your regeneration when ulting. You'll always be in a fight when you're ulting so the passive on Cad shield will proc making you and your allies heal from all sources more effectively. This item also gives all prots, health and power.
Spirit Robe is great for the all prots, CDR, and CCR. The passive gives you 15% damage mitigation for 3 seconds after being hit by a hard cc ability. This refreshes after 15 seconds.

Notes Caduceus Shield is great on Vamana because of your regeneration when ulting. You'll always be in a fight when you're ulting so the passive on Cad shield will proc making you and your allies heal from all sources more effectively. This item also gives all prots, health and power.
Oni Hunter's Garb is good for the magical prots, health and CCR, but the passive gives you damage mitigation when stacked making you very very tanky.

Notes Hero's Axe will give shield to a nearby ally hit by a hard cc ability worth 15% of your max health making diving with your jungler very fun and a little bit safer.
Sundering Axe deals an extra 10% of your target's current health refreshing once every 7 seconds. Making your pursuit during your ult very dangerous for any carry.
Mantle of Discord is very good because the passive stuns and gives you cc immunity once passed a health threshold. Though they only last for 1 second, it could be the difference between life and death. The prots and CDR are nice too.
Pestilence is a great form of antiheal and gives magical prots and health.
Hide of the Nemean is great against AA team comps.

Notes I chose Sundering Axe for the damage potential. Sold my boots for Void Shield because of the power pen and prots it gives me. I also gain health from it. My passive also gives me power from the item because it's phys prots.

Other Items to Consider

Notes Breastplate of Valor is good for phys prots, mana, mp5 and CDR. A great item for Vamana.
Genji's Guard is magical defense and you gain health, mp5, and CDR. The passive lowers your cooldowns by a few seconds when you're hit by a magical ability.
Pestilence is great for antiheal, also providing magical prots and health.
Mantle of Discord is great for survivability. The passive gives you cc immunity and stuns enemy players for 1 second. You also gain all prots and CDR.
Hide of the Nemean is great into high AA team comps.
Spectral Armor is great into comps with high crit chance. eg Jing/Merc.

What would I build for support?

You shouldn't be playing Vamana in Support.

Support viable warriors in order of best to worst(ish) are

, , , , , , , .

Thank you for letting me know, I wasn't intending to play support Vamana in ranked, only in casuals.

You could play Vamana support almost the same way you would Osiris. Just build things to slow your opponents and make them immobile for your team to follow up more easily. Something like would be great on him as well as probably for some extra prots and obviously for the slow and the shield when your done ulting and I’m sure there’s other items but that’s kind of a broad build for the most part.

Osiris has a lot of aggressive support utility that vamana lacks though.

Built in mitigations, a 5 sec cooldown slow, an increase on the slow, a stun with damage reduction and an ult with antiheal.

Vamana has a slow and a knock up which is in his escape. His passive 2 and ult provide no utility at all.

Building support items doesn't make someone a support if their kit doesn't make it work.

He doing it for fun and he asked how I would go about it so I let him know what I would build. The items I listed would be similar to those I would build on Osiris. In know way am I saying Vamana equals Osiris.

I can agree here that Vamana is not a good supp and that we're all in the same boat on that count. That said, Espada did say casual only so it's an indication he's not going to rely on Vamana as a viable Supp pick, and so Tone's build suggestions are mostly things I'd agree with. Frost probably core to bring an element of control to his kit...at least that's how I'd probably do it.

isn't an item I'd get on though...the timing on the shield is going to be awkward. Since he brings less on CC overall, I'd look to items that provide team utility. I'd probably consider . like you said is another option. is as well.

Depending on the starter, you could potentially skip though. Since the upgrade is a better version of Thebes, it can allow you to go early into Frost or something else if you want. Like, Sentinel's, Reinforced, Frost as your first 3. Then Sov, Shogun's or Talisman, Spirit or Mantle, upgrade to Embrace, replace Boots w/ whatever.

If you go , maybe get Ninja and Thebes.

Yes exactly. All these items work pretty well on Vamana. Pridwen may not be the most optimal choice but I feel it’s still viable. Regardless though, these items are worthy of picking up one way or another.

My 2nd game of S8 and I was thrown into Solo. Hadn't prepared at all, and didn't have any guides up to direct me (honestly probably shouldn't need guides at this point but sometimes I get a case of low confidence lol).

Thinking of all 4 abilities dealing damage, I finally decided upon , got to my mana buff late (SMH), and started a bit behind. Since I'm no good 1v1 boxing, I played it on the safe side. Continuing not to think well, I went for instead of , which I strongly prefer on him when I'm not being stupid.

That said, I almost went 2nd (against ), but decided on since I was in the ability mindset, into , , , upgraded to , and finished by replacing Tabi with .

Can't tell you how effective it was, but felt pretty okay. I think considering other starter options besides might be good, but curious what others think too. Maybe even could be considered?

I think is the only worthwhile option personally, whether you go for is optional but I don't think that is worth it either unless it provided some base attack speed.

The way I find Vamana the most fun to play is to just get to level 9 with max and proxy farm, there's much more to farm in S8 too which when done efficiently can put you quiet far ahead.

Well shoot man. Did the game go well at least? I know my build isn’t the best one but I try to give a lot of variance and stuff when I make them. I plan on playing with my builds and testing them then once I come to a solid consensus I’ll update my guides. So I’ll have to think about yours.

Also considering how knowledgeable you are of the game I'm surprised you don't know that he can walk through player made walls in his ultimate. Making no risk to him at all.

Yes, I see now that I have made a pretty big mistake forgetting that interaction with his ult. Also, in the “Other Items to Consider” section, which I have totally forgotten, I would have added items like BoV Genji’s and Oni Hunter’s. I’ll have to hop back in and fix those mistakes. Thank you for pointing them out to me.
