Introduction

This guide is made by the mentor team from the SMITE Official Discord. Anyone can join and receive help from the mentors, participate in inhouses, look for people to play with, or just talk about the game with other people who enjoy SMITE.

Cu Chulainn is a high damage lane bully in the solo lane. He excels in the early game and dominates in mid-game team fights. With a leap to effectively immune damaging abilities and his ultimate to immune crowd control, the Hound of Ulster has an easy time getting a lead and is very hard to shut down. Cu Chulainn is strong at all stages of the game. He can easily 100-0 carries if he catches them out and remains a huge threat in team fights late-game while most warriors fall off.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths
Good early pressure after level 5 and you've bought boots
Very good clear and poke
Good buff secure
Can easily bully lower pressure solo lane picks and snowball
He's extremely hard to lock down.

Weaknesses

Can't do much from behind
No built-in sustain

Which Build Is Right For You?

Pridwen Variation
The Pridwen variation has a slower yet safer early game. Reinforced Greaves make up for having no protections from our starter item ( Bluestone Pendant) and Shifter's Shield gives a lot of power so clearing will never be an issue. Pridwen is a very strong item on Cu Chulainn and the boost in cooldown reduction makes him much easier to play. I recommend this build to anyone who wants to focus on rotating and team fighting or anyone who doesn't want to play hyper-aggressive and wants a safer, yet still dominant, laning phase.
Mystical Variation
The Mystical Mail variation has a far more aggressive laning phase. Warrior Tabi is the boots option because it boosts Cu Chulainn's kill potential early game and the power helps him clear so he can invade more easily. Mystical Mail is an item that keeps up the aggression because it gives solid defensive stats to keep you safe from the jungler and the passive discourages anyone from fighting you. No one can stand near you for long so invading is much easier. I recommend this build to anyone who wants to steamroll the laning phase and snowball their lead.
Tainted Variation
Tainted Steel is a starter that doesn't feel as good as Bluestone Pendant because it lacks sustain but the power and protections make it a very strong starter item in lane for both clearing and trading with the enemy. It has very strong stats and the 50% anti-heal makes it the best anti-heal item in the game. This build is the same as the Mystical Mail variation, it just has Tainted Breastplate instead of Shifter's Shield. This path is for when you want to have anti-heal in your build.

Which Boots Should You Go?

-OR-

Reinforced Greaves > PROTECTIONS
These boots make you insanely tanky early game. They give more defensive stats than they should and the protections feel great even in the mid-game. You can go these boots in any Cu Chulainn build if you're looking for a safer laning phase or if don't think you can abuse the pressure you would have with power boots.

Warrior Tabi > POWER
These boots are for games when you have pressure in lane and want to look for early kills. The power boosts your clear and lets you kill anyone you catch out if you're Berserk before people start getting defense online. If you can get a lead and want to snowball, these are the boots for you.

Relics

On Cu Chulainn you always want to go Blink Rune. You're going to start most fights by using Blink then Spear of Mortal Pain right after to CC multiple people and transform with your passive Berserk. You'll get it first most games, second if you go Purification Beads first. Your second relic will usually be Sundering Spear. Cursed Ankh is good into teams with a lot of healing though. Ankh is worth it when facing gods like Aphrodite and Hel. Upgrade Sundering Spear and Cursed Ankh when you get them. Purification Beads are good into gods like Hun Batz, Ares, and Ao Kuang. Get Beads first or second depending on if you need them for the laning phase or not.

Early Game

Start off by buying Bluestone Pendant and Chalice of Healing. Get two Healing Potions and Blink Rune.

Go to speed buff at the start of the game. Clear it as fast as possible and then head to mini harpy camp. Your jungler will be on the bigger harpy camp and will pull them towards you. You will use Barbed Spear on the minis so you don't gain much rage. After both camps are down, head to blue. Clear blue then go to lane.

In lane just focus on clearing but use Barbed Spear and Salmon's Leap on your lane opponent as well as the wave if possible. If the enemy lane opponent goes anything but Bluestone Pendant, you will either match their clear or outclear them. The goal is to get full boots on your first back but look for kills if you can while you're Berserk, you'll out-trade anyone while you're transformed. You want to back once you clear the wave that comes as the second blue spawns.

Once you get boots ( Warrior Tabi or Reinforced Greaves) and level 5, look to use Spear of Mortal Pain on the wave and your lane opponent. You will kill them from full health if you use your two abilities, your ult, and do the same while Berserk. After you get your boots you're looking to bully your lane opponent. Poke them out, out clear them, fight them on totem, try to invade their blue or proxy. Do whatever you can do to get pressure then make a lead off of that pressure by invading and denying farm. If you proxy the wave, you can do the enemy minis and back camps or gank the middle lane. Make sure to place deep wards before you proxy. You'll lose your lead if you get caught out.

Team Fights

As the solo laner and frontline during team fights you want to be initiating for your jungler and pressuring their backline so they're not free casting onto your team. Usually how this works is you Blink Rune in, use Spear of Mortal Pain right after on as many people as you can so you start transforming, get Barbed Spear and Salmon's Leap off on a squishy as you transform, and then use Ground Slam, Furious Charge, and War Cry on whoever you go on. You'll be killing whoever you focus unless they use Aegis Amulet and have an immediate escape afterwards. Cu Chulainn is very disruptive in fights with his AoE knockup and tremble. The disruption helps your jungler go in so they can help you kill the backline. He can also push people away from their team, stopping supports peel for their carries or pushing an enemy into even more danger. Pushing people to your team with Furious Charge is great if you can't kill them alone. Be careful diving their backline alone late game, you do a lot of damage but you can't kill carries who have peel from their supports and their relics (often Purification Beads and either Magic Shell or Aegis Amulet) off cooldown.

Tips and Tricks

Salmon's Leap is a great ability for dodging damage as it has almost no start up. You can jump over almost every ability on reaction. Make sure you land on the god who's trying to hit you unless you're trying to run from them.

When people run from you, auto-attack them until they get out of range and then use your abilities, you do a lot more damage this way. Only immediately use your abilities when you want some quick poke or when securing a kill. Your autos have extra range, use it.

Holding your ultimate so you can immune CC is very important. It helps keep you alive in fights and is one of the things that allows Cu Chulainn to take fights that other warriors can't.

Fight the enemy solo laner in the wave if they're not really tanky. Barbed Spear stuns minions so you'll take less damage from them than your lane opponent will.

When you take 1v2s or 1v3s, try to line up your abilities on both or all of the enemy gods. It doesn't feel too important, but you end up racking a lot of damage and can get double or even triple kills instead of just killing one god and then getting out. It also helps stack rage faster.

Conclusion

All in all, Cu Chulainn is a strong pick in the solo lane. He can easily punish weaker gods and get a sizeable lead which lets him be a menace to the enemy backline in team fights. You can't go wrong by picking him but your enemies will wish you hadn't.

Nice guide, but you only have four points in Barbed Spear / Ground Slam. And is Vent Anger really so bad that you wait until level 14 to put a point in it? Why not put one in at level 4, then leave it for last? While it doesn't really do damage, it is a good way to prevent you from going berserk before you're ready to.

Vent Anger isn’t worth leveling until you have to. The 5th point in barbed spear was a mistake. For some reason my version is updated when I log in but not for others.

You'll need to republish every time you save changes. It's showing up now, but wasn't when I first looked at the guide.

You don’t need to prevent rage transforms early in Solo.... that’s why you don’t level it till late

Makes sense. When would put your final point into your 1, though?
