Intro

Poseidon

Why play Poseidon?

Poseidon is a great god for several reasons. The first reason being that he can cripple other mids, eliminating the chance for most other gods to retreat and escape. The damage in combination with the escape elimination will come in handy for pushing/killimg other mids. Just make sure you don't get overconfident and over extend yourself (as a jungle gank can be incredibly deadly to you).

Pros / Cons

Pros:

Strong damage
strong cc potential
great at team fighing
fullfills mid role amazingly
Can use your "two" skill for damage or quicker escape

Cons

Very Squishy

Items:

Use this starter item to increase your lane staying potential. Each minion kill will return some of the mana and health you will expend. remember to sell this item at a later point in the game or you will be severly under powered.

The extra damage and mana will in the long run be more useful than a little bit of CDR.

Use this item to trap enemy gods in your whirlpool. The extra mana, and health dont hurt either. The reason this item really shines though is because it will help you land your ultimate, and keep your enemies trapped and damaged.

Use for the CDR and additional damage. The MP5 is also amazing for being able to stay in lane long periods so you can feed quickly.

great damage item, makes your damage stronger as you get weaker + life-steal is nice for staying alive.

Gives your abilities a little more "UMPH" and finishing power. Using this item with an ult like often times guarantee a kill.

With the "normal" build, wouldn't that lead you to have to back to base constantly? I tried out the build you suggested in game, and had to back to base several times just to get my mana back up. If I instead build damage boots, vamperic shroud and 2 health pots + 4 Mana pots I seem to be able to stay in lane a lot longer and feed better. Would this not out weight the slight damage buff you get early game?

It's nice skill to let bait the beads out. but I normally would only use beads when I need to get out and an aegis when it's the ult combo

Yeah the main Mage build and my personal fav is shoes if magi, warlocks, book of Thoth, obsidian shard/spear (depends on if character uses dot or not), rod of tahuti, then a situational like chronos pendant, Magis, or even finish your life steal item like bancrofts or polynomicon. The main start is vamp shroud, tiny trinket, 2 health pots and one mana pot.

Okay thanks! I'm always looking for constructive criticism and will modify my guide to incorporate those items as possible changes. Let me know if you see anything else you would like changed.

Admittedly, if you're not ulting the enemy this is true. I just don't usually include it in my build since it's on the expensive side and would most likely be my situational sixth item choice. (I usually go Shoes of the Magi -> Demonic Grip -> Polynomicon -> Spear of the Magus -> Rod of Tahuti -> Situational and since most people will beads your Whirlpool lategame anyway I tend to invest in something different.

3) A few additional tips: You probably don't need Gem of Isolation since it's easy to hit a whirlpool and then immediately use your ultimate, and its health and mana are unnecessary for Poseidon since you can't really build him as a bruiser.

A few things.

1) There's no section on Rod of Tahuti. I know it's obvious why you should get this (ie: MASSIVE power buff) but since there's one for every other item, you should make one for it too.

2) This build has NO penetration. No matter what god you're playing against, you're going to be doing more damage if you swap out one of these items for Obsidian Shard, Spear of the Magus, or at the very least Demonic Grip (which is actually great on poseidon because of his 2).

3) A few additional tips: You probably don't need Gem of Isolation since it's easy to hit a whirlpool and then immediately use your ultimate, and its health and mana are unnecessary for Poseidon since you can't really build him as a bruiser.
Additionally, Polynomicon is also great on Poseidon over Bancroft's Talon since it boosts his basic attacks which should be used frequently (especially if you buy Demonic Grip).
Also, last thing: you may want to consider Tiny Trinket, Vampiric Shroud and a health pot and 2 mana pots as your starter items instead of the assumed Boots and an active. It gives you a nice power boost in the early game and additional lifesteal so that you can stay in lane longer. You also don't have to sell it later since you can upgrade it, and you'll have more sustain in the beginning from the additional mana and health pots (do note you will still want Shoes of the Magi before upgrading this tho, you're too squishy not to have a method of escape).

Aside from that, decent guide, could probably use a few more sections tho
