[Guide updated to: The Underworld Beckons]
Odin is one of my favorite gods in Smite today. Since Odin got buffed in latest patch which gave our allies trapped within his ultimate addistional protection. He also gor a small increase on physical power during ultimate.
I will try to keep this guide updated to each patch which may affect god Odin (nerfs, buffs)
I have played Smite quite awhile and I find Odin most interesting, and will the best I can to explain to you how I like to play Odin. First of, pros and cons.
Pros
- Very good end game character
- Awesome attack speed buff Odin's Shout
- Can get high attack power with high protection
- Great area of sight because of his birds of wisdom
Cons
- His ultimate can tarpp allies
- His ultimate can be escaped by Combat Blink or jumped out.
- Very slow and vulnerable at early game
- Short and slow jump ability Lunge
I like to start off with Mark of the Vanguard then first rank of Tabi and Voidblade and later max out Voidblade for early protection and damage + reducing enemies physical protection. Later on max out Tabi to Ninja Tabi for cooldown reduction.
Then I start to max out Breastplate of Valor to max out my Cooddown reduction [40%]
After maxing out these items, Odin have started to be quite tanky as well he can put out decent damage.
From this I like to increase my HP5 by first buying shield of regrowth then Stone of Gaia. These items are very nice to have if a teamplay should fail and you have escape, you get a great HP5 and Thanatos's ultimate Hovering Death get trickier to land on you. (Atleast early game..)
As last item i like to buy Bloodforge for some extra damage and decent lifesteal.
As for actives, I like to use shell of absobstion and girdle of inner fire
The shell for get the remaining protection I need to cap both physical and magical protection. And the girdle for the extra damage I need to do good damage as well.
And now... SKILLS!
My priority skill sequence:
1st: Ring of Spears
2nd: Gungnir's Might
3rd: Odin's Shout
4th: Lunge
Ring of Spears
Upgrade this ability whenever you can, you get great damage and protection buffs while keeping the enemy caged. Here it is very usefull to have Enfeebling Curse or weaking curse to reduce their movement speed so you may attack them while caged. If you have an ally with crippling ability, have him/her with you so the enemy can not use their escape to leave the ring.
Gungnir's Might
A all around great minion wave clearing ability. Big radius, good damage, and slows enemies if it hit on second swing. It also gives additional protection buffs.
Odin's Shout
An ally and self buff which increases your attack speed. Great teamfight buff.
Lunge
An ability I rather use as an escape mechanism than a initiation ability. So save it you get captured by any crowd control abilities like Hades's Pillar of Agony.
As summary I will say Odin is one of the greatest tamk / bruisers. By this I mean he has the ability of maxing out both physical and magical protection, get great attack speed, around 650 physical power, and decent heatlh regen with my build.
As a last advice, i'll suggest that you get the mana jungle buff early since Odins abilities use ALOT of mana.
(I may add more details on how to play Odin in teamfights and lane in a future update)
