Introduction

Hello welcome to your main man Licks take on Odin!

Much like his son (Thor) Odin can be played Versatile Bruiser/Glass Cannon/Tank.

This Build will be focusing on primarily a Bruiser model!

So i hope you enjoy!

Skills: Indepth

Birds of Wisdom
Passive
Odin's ravens scout an increased radius around himself, doubling his minimap vision radius and gaining visibility of enemies within that radius.

Analysis
Great Passive to have when your pushing lane in Conquest, Can't cut you off by coming up from behind if you seem them first and cut across jungle. Survival +10%

Lunge
Skill 1
Odin Lunges to his target location, doing 140 / 180 / 220 / 260 / 300 (+40% of your physical power) physical to all nearby enemies.

Cost: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 mana.

Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 s.

Analysis
Excellent ability throw a point into at level 2, It'll get you in and out of combat when your in those tough situations! Jump over obstacles, Jump out of ultimates like Hades's or even pair it with your own: (I don't recommend unless extremely necessary) When running drop your ultimate to trap following enemies then Lunge out of Ultimate leaving enemies stuck.
DON'T FORGET This ability does damage, most players forget this or abuse it by either using it to jump on an enemy within melee range or only using this ability to escape DON'T BE A NOOB.
There's no feeling like perfect placement of a Lunge when you get a kill by curb stomp, until you have to clean your boots. Curb stomp Epicness + 25%

Odin's Shout
Skill 2
Odin gives a commanding roar, rallying his allies. Odin and his allies gain an attack speed buff of 15 / 25 / 35 / 45 / 55% for 7 s.

Cost 60 mana.

Cooldown: 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16 s.

Analysis
Max this skill out last, it scales much better late game with your items and team fights will happen more frequently. Odin's nuke ability may be his Gungnir's might but his main source of damage will be his extremely fast and armor penetrating Melee attacks. This ability not only adds to his teams benefits but leaves the enemy scratching his head when you unload an assault of melee swings killing them before a carry can react. Bruce Lee's Fists of Fury hold no match against Odin's onslaut of spears! Last Hitting +55%

Gungnir's Might
SKill 3
This power, while used passively, provides 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 protection from physical attacks and 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 HP5. Upon activation of this power, he does a speeding melee attack that does 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+100% of your physical power) physical damage and slows all enemies around him by 30% for 2 seconds, but he loses the passive bonus while on cooldown.

Cost: 65 / 70 / 75 / 80/ 85 mana.

Cooldown 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 s.

Analysis
Odin's Bread and butter, I never really understood why the best move is refered as the "Bread and Butter" so if were going food based this ability is more like his Filet Mignon. A slow, a burst attack, increased physical protection/ HP5 aside from listing everything it states above this Skill has it all! I heavily recommend Maxing this ability out immediately! The slow will also provide a base until Frostbound Hammer can be acquired. The Increased physical protection/HP5 will grant increased survive ability and early game sustainability. I suggest after using your ultimate to trap enemies either use this ability before activating Odin's Shout or save it for when the walls come down and you want an extra slow on any enemy still standing. Overall Power+20%

Ring of Spears
Ultimate
Odin summons a wall of spears, blocking all normal movement. Odin gains +60 protection, +35 / 55 / 75 / 95 / 115 physical power and immunity to stun/fear/silence/root while inside the ring. Pressing the button again will bring down the ring.

Cost: 100 mana.

Cooldown: 75 s.

Analysis
While this move is activated you are almost unkillable, position it carefully this move can easily win or lose a team fight.
If using in a 1v1 situation DO NOT use on anyone who has a move like your lunge (Bastet/Wukong/Bakasura/Anhur) unless you know for a fact that the ability is on Cooldown.
Positioning: you want to make sure you catch there ranged in this but don't capture your team's as well. A enemy Ra is useless when his blind wont effect you and his movement speed means nothing when he can't run.
Arena: My Favorite part of this ultimate is to stop those pesky Ares from snagging your whole team and bringing them to his. Dropping your ultimate will stop ares from pulling you and trapping him in it he cannot move beyond the barrier to pull your team to his. Afterwards drop your ultimate to allow your team to scatter before any enemy can AoE the location for kills on your teammates.
Learn End game Odin: If you trap 3+ enemies in this with just you Don't Bail believe me start with the squishiest who isnt moving around the most and rip them apart one by one.
End game your going to feel like this when you Use your Ultimate: Unkillable + 100%

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Incredible Damage
  • Can take a beating
  • Very versatile
  • Great farmer
  • Easy escape mechanics
  • Gap Closer

Cons
  • Early game is rough if not paired with an appropriate partner (Conquest)
  • Early Mana issues
  • Not unkillable till end game

My Build: Items

Item builds will differentiate starting in Conquest and Arena due to starting gold received.

Warrior Tabi
Reason
Damage, were relying on your attack speed and Damage to do the vast majority of damage to enemies this will give you a boost. Ideal boots to have.

The Executioner
Reason
Moderate amount of physical damage, decent amount of attack speed, and most importantly the debuff from melee attacks. Your attack speed should be incredible end game having to hit 3 auto attacks will be no time at all and the benefits from the armor penetration will be astounding.

Qin's Blades
Reason
More Attack Speed, more damage, minor increase to health which will benefit you later. And it's passive is unparalleled with the amount of Attack speed you should have on Odin with Odin's Shout, this item is a must have on Odin!

Frostbound Hammer
Reason
At this point the Frostbound hammer will provide you with two essential powers

  • Increased Durability
  • Helps secure kills when champions run
If your ultimate isn't enough to seal the deal there will be no escape after adding this item to your arsenal

Ankh of the Golem
Reason
Increased Durability with the passive giving you increased physical damage for 1.5% of you max health. You'll become the Golem this Ankh was named after. Only with incredible attack speed!

Witch Stone
Witch Stone
Reason
And the cheery that goes on top! if you see a cherry as some inedible green stone. All your essential stats on Odin, Attack speed, Physical Damage, health. Now more physical protection and the best part the passive, You will no longer have to worry about any attack speed based champ toping off your Build with this item will guarantee any Loki will not have a chance against you.

Optional Items

My Build is personally what i have found to excel in my game play. It may not be for everyone so i decided to add this chapter of Additional items that could also Benefit Odin!

Voidblade

This item will help if you still feel your not getting through Enemy's armor, which equipping you with more Physical protection and a bonus to Physical Damage.

My Analysis
I prefer not to take this item because it has no benefit to Attack speed, Odin has more than enough Physical protection in my build, and The Executioner provides 20 more Armor pen on stack 3.

Soul Eater

Great item if your feeling generous, buff the team some more! Optional because if your team is mostly Magic the aura is wasted. And if you team is mostly physical one of them will most likely pick this up giving you the benefit of the Aura.

My Analysis
Again this is all your preference, if you feel the need to sacrifice some damage or durability for some longevity from the life steal go for it!

Reinforced Boots
Reinforced Boots

Great for laning again Magic casters, good early game sustain. For those who do not yet know the limits of Odin.

My Analysis
Grab if your in need of Magic resist or your getting suppressed by all the stuns and snares. Excellent boot choice if enemy team is heavy Magic.

Magi's Blessing
Magi's Blessing

Excellent item when countering Magic casters, gives you the extra survive ability to take them down.

My Analysis
Last resort item when your just getting torn apart by enemy casters and you cant do anything about it. When Reinforced Boots aren't enough!

Deathbringer

Will give you an excellent Damage increase on your auto attacks!

My Analysis
In my "Creeping Curse" build this is a great alternative to Soul Eater. However you'll be sacrificing attack speed and some durability for this juggernaut, Your choice.

Creeping Curse Build

Ideally this build will allow you to ignore Frostbound Hammer replace it with Soul Eater or another Item of your Choosing.
Passive slow from Creeping Curse and your Gungnir's Might will be enough to keep enemies in melee Range.

Great build to play with, Let's you keep enemies that are in the "Kill Zone" from fleeing back to tower. However you start off a little weaker than the other builds so be careful.

Slightly harder early game but enemies will never be able to escape (within reason).

Recommend
100% Picking up Deathbringer > Soul Eater if someone on your team already has Soul Eater.

And Special Thanks to HiRezBart for the idea!

Abilities

*Update* Passive from abilities are now always active, consider buying them sooner than late game.
My Picks

Sprint
Sprint

Reason
Great ability to have, personal speed buff multiple uses!

  • Chase an enemy
  • Run from enemies
  • Passive increased movement speed
Your probably thinking what do i need this for i have Lunge, well here is a situation I generally use it in: Chasing a Bakasura, you wont ultimate because he can just jump out of it so use Sprint chase him down allow him to jump, Immediately I'll use Lunge following up with my Ring of Spears. Kill secured!

Girdle of Might

Reason
Nice buff to damage with it's passive, buff your teammates! since this will most likely be one of the last items you buy excluding elixirs this item will help your team giving them an edge in team fights and even solo a buff to tear through those enemies faster.

Optional Picks

Purification Beads

Reason
Depends completely on the situation, if you're getting crowd controlled hard pick them up! I prefer not to because of your Ultimate however if you can't even get to a point where your ultimate is in a good position you might need some help, these might do the trick.

Creeping Curse

Reason
Extra slow on top of the two you already have, can be used to slow everyone down to get in better position for Ultimate. Again not necessary if your Gungnir's Might and Frostbound Hammer isn't slowing enough there's a problem. I prefer sprint because even running away you can AoE slow with Gungnir's might (Smaller Radius) and position yourself just as well with Sprint.

Meditation
Meditation

Reason
The passive MP5 alone we'll guarantee mana stability early game as long as your not being reckless. If you are dead set on Odin being unplayable without this item i suggest you purchase it at level 1

Early Game (Conquest) Levels 1-7

Early game is not necessarily defined by these specific levels, Early game is when all lanes stay in there lanes its a push back and forth for lane dominance.

This phase can make or break an Odin especially using my build that's why it is very important to take into fact a few things:

  • Your Partner, What can he do to benefit you?
  • Establish Lane dominance THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU KILL THEM MORE THAN THEY KILL YOU
  • Enemy Gods, what will and won't work against them
  • Jungling, is your partner wanting help in the jungle? or is the enemy laners constantly in it?

As a player gains experience in matches you'll have better understanding of being able to read and react to a situation.

My Odin is reasonably squishy early game so DON'T initiate a fight you have no chance of surviving. a 1 for 1 kill is as effective as letting him live so you can also! (Arguable because you could be farming your lane partner so he is unstoppable end game, again play tank Odin if you think like this)

Establishing lane dominance is a huge deal, especially if paired with another melee champion! This means you want to be in control of minion kills. If a wave comes and there melee champions back off because they don't want the chance of being that close to you farming their melee minions then you have asserted enough dominance to get an edge.
If both their range and melee backs off when you push past their melee minions onto their range minions then you have complete lane dominance! You want to play aggressive to the point where the enemy will play passive. However be careful playing TOO Aggressive can result in enemy getting a kill and they will be more confident, losing your lane dominance.

By level 2 or 3 you or your lane partner should have a kill or 2, easy way to guarantee this is lane with someone like Anubis, Mummify/AoE slow + Lunge/Gungnir's Might on a Non Tank god should secure a kill!

Easy on your mana early game you don't have a lot and constant harass or killing minions with abilities will result in running out of mana. Mana is expendable ONLY after your partner sets up the enemy for your immediate Lunge + Gungnir's might combo. Also if you only using mana for this reason you should very rarely have mana problems.

The Jungle, starting at blue buff or disrupting the enemies blue buff attempt can both help with your mana issues and set up lane dominance early game (If you can secure a kill when the enemies are at blue buff).
If your lane partner is constantly in the jungle this will be very hard to keep asserting your lane Dominance! Leaving you to choose 3 different approaches!
Aggressive: Keep playing like you have your partner there stay in melee range of enemy minions to farm.
Defensive: Stay near your range minions, keep reasonable distance from the enemy where you might still be able to farm.
Passive: Stay far behind your ranged minions leaving no chance for an enemy to kill you but also no farm depending on your range.

Aggressive (High Risk High Reward)
Pros
  • Can trick the enemy into thinking your jungle partner is going to initiate on them, leaving them playing passive while you farm minions
  • If they don't play passive and more defensive your partner can initiate a gank, hopefully granting a kill or 2.

Con
  • If they see through this card and your partner is not ready for a gank you can be in huge trouble!

Defensive (Best choice in most cases)
Pros
  • Stay near ranged minions, close enough to maybe snag a melee minion or 2
  • Won't be far enough away to receive no gold from minions
  • Still close enough to follow up a gank
  • Safe distance away where lunge can get you out of any problems

Cons
  • Not receiving extra gold for killing minions personally
  • Allowing enemy gods to get kills on minions giving them a gold advantage on you

Passive (Safety is your friend)
Pros
  • No chance of enemy killing you
  • Makes enemies over confident, sets up opportunities for lane partner to gank

Cons
  • Will take some time to follow up a gank by your lane mate
  • No additional farm (Bonus gold for killing minion)
  • Constantly be hugging your turret because enemy will push easily
  • No lane dominance at all

Laning Partners

Odin isn't very picky when it comes to lane partners, most champions will make a fine benefit to your armada however your looking for someone to SET YOU UP! Let's face it playing my style Odin early game your not very durable therefore you don't necessarily want to be the one initiating a lane fight. You wan't someone with an excellent snare so you can sweep in to secure a kill. I'll be rating every Champion in the game to this date expect this to be modified frequently!

Agni
3 out of 10

Agni will most likely be a middle champion however the small chance he decides to lane with you here is what to expect. His stun setup is alright, The low duration leaves you very vulnerable to a recoil from enemy team if only one Champion is stunned. Rain Fire, like most AoEs is a fine addition to Ring of Spears. You'll need to be very careful even if Agni's stun is successful you'll be the champion within melee range therefore you will be the focus expect to take damage and KNOW YOUR LIMITS. I Don't like Agni much because his stun is one seconds and often times Magic champions after their "Burst" are not much benefit to a lane fight.

Anhur
4 out of 10

Anhur is more impressive as a lane partner than Agni with his slow easily securing runners and a impressive 2 second stun which will ensure a kill if landed (Most of the time). His stun is heavily skilled based if Shifting Sands is on cooldown and enemies are staying there distance from walls he isn't landing a stun. Another problem here is it's Anhur, he is a Physical ranged carry therefore he really isn't setting YOU up. You're the support here unfortunately, might as well be tank Odin if you're going to lane with Anhur.
*Update*: Slow nerf, lost a rank.

Anubis
8 out of 10

Love Anubis, his ability Mummify snares the target for 2 seconds allowing you to easily Lunge in on the enemy and finish him off. You two together is a devastating combo, the one down side is Plague of Locusts requires closer range than all of Anubis's spells. Be very careful even if you have an enemy running the other can easily dive in and pound on Anubis, you're priority would switch from securing a kill to protecting your lane partner.

Ao Kuang
1 out of 10

Ao Kuang brings no benefits to your play style, with a single slow and debatable damage i would steer clear of laning with this God.

Arachne
6 out of 10

Double melee Gods Establish Lane Dominance IMMEDIATELY. Without asserting your dominance neither one of you will be able to farm minions. Arachne will most likely be jungling a great deal refer back to the Early Game section if you don't know how to play with that. Cocoon + Drain Life will easily secure a kill with your help. Better partner than most Melee/Assassin Gods.

Ares
7 out of 10

With the 11/19 Nerf he may not be the power house that he once was however he is still an excellent support tank. Increases your durability from Bolster Defenses, Double ultimate with No Escape is a great setup, and the slow from Shackles makes running almost impossible! He doesn't have much of an initiate and be sure to follow up when No Escape is used!

Artemis
4 out of 10

Physical Ranged carry, Calydonian Boar + Transgressors Fate will suppress the enemy god to easily secure a kill. Don't trap her in your Ring of Spears, she has no escape mechanism and will be a sitting target.

Bacchus
10 out of 10

A large companion that packs a punch, He can easily initiate a lane fight Belly Flop then follow up with tons of crowd control effects Belch of the Gods Intoxicate. Bacchus is a top tier laning partner!

Bakasura
5 out of 10

Like all melee lane partners establish lane dominance Immediately. Bakasura will most likely be in jungle, keep yourself prepared when he is ready to gank and keep your distance when he is at a Jungle camp! If he is commited to laning and not jungling you may have trouble with initiating. One Trick i found to work when in a situation like this is both use Take Down/ Lunge at the same time. Most enemies never see a perfect coordinated team pounce and will not be prepared to focus target while you simultaneously tear through the squishiest of the two enemy Gods.

Bastet
5 out of 10

Bastet is practically going to be played the same as laning with Bakasura only Bastet is more likely to not jungle and set up ganks but is much better at harassing and helping to establish that Lane Dominance. Pay Attention it can be a fatal error if you don't know when Bastet is using her Pounce to harass or fight, using Lunge in a harass situation could could almost guarantee your death IF Bastet has already pounced back.

Cupid
5 out of 10

Out of every ranged "carry" you could be paired with i would suggest Cupid above all others. The pairing of your Ring of Spears and Fields Of Love will keep enemies at their knees Literally while you harvest kills. The stun from Heart Bomb can set you up quite nicely. The good thing about Cupid is he can get away if the situation gets "hairy" the only thing to watch out for is again DO NOT trap him in your Ring of Spears. He is extremely squishy and you need to be careful you assault doesn't leave him wide open without Flutter!

Guan Yu
10 out of 10

Excellent support tank, also damaging caster (Depends how he is built). Tranquil Gift keeps early game lane stability much higher, i suggest buying Meditation with this team as Guan Yu will keep your health up you'll just have to worry about your mana stay in lane for as long as possible between the Heal and Meditation it should be a while before you are forced to recall. Guan Yu is great at initiating and can set you up well, Tactician's Advantage into Ring of Spears will keep most Enemies from escaping. Warrior's Will slows enemies as Taolu Assault REDUCES ENEMIES ARMOR. Guan Yu is another Top Tier laning partner!

Hades
10 out of 10

In general Hades is an excellent lane partner! If the player is skilled with Blight your lane stability will skyrocket. Devour Souls on minion waves who are effected with Blight is an Overpowered Heal. Again if your constantly assaulting the enemy team and you're having problems with your mana I recommend Meditation it'll make that problem go away and you will be able to stay in lane and farm longer. Death From Below's speed is almost unparalleled and can completely catch the enemies off guard paired with Pillar of Agony and if necessary secured with Ring of Spears this duo is a pair to be afraid of.

More Champs will be uploaded! Stay tuned

Conclusion

At the end of it all this is your play style that important, a guide isn't a guide if you dont stem of of it and make the champion your own!

Soon to come!

  • Laning partner choices updating 3 Champions a day
  • Mid to End game play

I'll Keep you updated!
Thanks for looking at my guide

Hi Stureper,
Deathbringer was always there is the back of my mind When building Odin, the reason i didn't was i prioritized Attack speed which yes i know Odin's Shout gives a large buff which you can argue Building for higher Damage meaning Deathbringer instead.

I prioritized Attack Speed because i want to exploit the ridiculous passive on Qin's Blades!

I'd recommend Deathbring as an optional item to my "Creeping Curse" build instead of Soul Eater.

Which leads me to my last point on why i Choose to show Soul Eater > Deathbringer and that is because the health from Soul Eater and most of the additional items in my build are synergistic with Ankh of the Golem's passive.

I try to get the most bang for my buck on the items i choose however i will add Deathbring to my optional items list indefinably.

Yea Placing that Witch Stone in your item build completely destroys any hope of a Bakasura Bastet or Loki phasing you. It shuts them down pretty hard because you also have an immense amount of Physical protection as Odin and in this build in general.

Sorry I haven't responded earlier, but yes PP means Physical power. I was actually going off of the Smite Terminology instead of normal MOBA terms like AP and AD (since it's more AD and MD now because they don't call it ability damage anymore in the game?).

In my recent games, I've been taking Witches stone over Soul Eater, as I always thought life steal and HP would be better then Protection and Power (since Soul Eater gives about 5 Power added with Akha of the Golem), and I must say that stone is much better fighting against Arachne and Baka (which are super annoying sometime haha).

Thank you for the guide, I hope you don't mind me stealing it for my Bacchus Builds.

It's the importance of knowing when to Engage and knowing your limits. Most of that normally come from first hand experience and i couldn't explain without being a huge massive text block.

But yea to rebound a bad game by going Tank Odin, I'll dabble with a build and get back to you!
you actually weren't the first to request it.

Also if your dieing to fast early game Try changing up my bruiser build purchase order. I know i get my 3 heavy damage items first but taking say Reinforced Boots(Rank 2) (Never recommend capping boots first) > Qin's Blades > Frostbound Hammer = Ankh of the Golem

Or even buying Magi's Blessing (Rank 1) then selling it later in game when you feel comfortable enough.

Love the guide, very indepth. However i have problems in some games where i do bad, and was wondering if you could make a tank guide too. As i usually die too fast in the early game, I find it hard to not feed to both ad and ap characters. Therefore a strong ap character like hebo can use his ulti and finish me very quickly in a gank, making me very vunerable.

Sorry Alpha was kinda confusing to follow :D

I get the jist of it though. i think?
PP i assume is Physical Power
And Bacchus and Odin are a very good Comp, I haven't had much(If any) experience yet laning with Bacchus but from the skill sets I'm undoubtedly going to take your word for it.
Thanks for the info Alpha!
