Build Summary

Starters & Relics

Notes Generally speaking, I will usually default to Bluestone Pendant and Purification Beads but both choices are very dependant on what you are up against. Every Relic has it's use, so pick what you need per game and for your second Relic I recommend picking something to compliment your team or counter the enemy team.

Bluestone Pendant for an aggressive playstyle.

Upgrade it to Bluestone Brooch for more damage OR Corrupted Bluestone if the enemy team has high attack speed characters (Assassins/Hunters) and you could use the extra defence.

Warding Sigil for mitigation, if you are the primary frontline for your team and are brawling often.

Upgrade it to Sigil Of The Old Guard to further enhance your mitigation. Don't bother with Infused Sigil.

Tainted Steel for required anti-heal. If the enemy team has any kind of strong healing effect Aphrodite, Hel, Sylvanus, Hercules, Vamana as examples, then you should purchase this to shut them down early.

Upgrade it to Tainted Breastplate for the 50% anti-heal debuff OR Tainted Amulet if you require the extra Magical protections over the Physical protections and are single-handedly preventing LOTS of healing that could be redirected to you.

Personally I wouldn't change the first 3 items of this build. I'm sure there are better alternatives but for the purpose of this guide I will be treating them as core.

With this early game start you gain damage, protections, CDR and mitigation. Everything you could ask for as a Bruiser!

Extended Build

Situational

Notes Pestilence OR Contagion are both items I would 100% recommend if required by your team (just pick whichever defence you need) instead of the Bulwark Of Hope. It should be noted that you should NOT build this if you already have one of the two items above on your team as the anti-heal aura will not stack. I also appreciate that as a last item replacement it's fairly late in the game to buy anti-heal, but assuming you have taken my Starter item advice then you will have Tainted Steel already and glyphed it upon hitting level 20.

Shifter's Shield can be built in place of Gladiator's Shield if you prefer the passive or maybe want to prevent overcapping CDR with a Spirit Robe as your last item instead. Building these two items together while maintaining the core build will ensure you still achieve the maximum 40% CDR cap. If however you only want to buy Shifter's Shield without changing your last item, you could sit on 30% CDR and min-max with a red potion for the missing 10% in the late game.

Genji's Guard can be bought to replace Oni Hunter's Garb if again you are building Shifter's Shield as explained above or built as your last item as long as you're not overcapping CDR with your other items. I would say it's more preferable to replace Bulwark Of Hope over Oni Hunter's Garb.

Mantle of Discord is another alternative if you prefer it to Spirit Robe and the enemy has low amounts of hard CC with more close-range melee characters (Assassins/Warriors). You will get +20 more of each protection and an AoE stun proc around you when dropping below 30% of your maximum health.

Full Build

Notes Using this build, you will be relatively tanky and difficult to kill while still putting out solid damage with maximum CDR and CCR.

Bluestone Brooch explained in Starters & Relics.

Soul Eater aims to provide you with strong sustain as you spam your abilities while also giving you 10% CDR and 10% penetration. It is also incredibly fast to stack as you do not need to last hit.

Breastplate of Valor will give you much needed Physical protections, 20% CDR and some early game mana so you can continue to spam your kit as often as possible further increasing the value of Soul Eater. A side note would be to glyph to your Breastplate of Determination as soon as you have a spare 600 gold to gain value from the effect sooner.

Oni Hunter's Garb will give you some much needed Magical protections on top of some extra health and mitigations, the CCR is definitely nice too.

Gladiator's Shield will give you some additional damage whenever it procs on top of some more health, Physical protection and 10% CDR.

Bulwark of Hope rounds out the build with some more Magical protection, health and CCR. You also gain a shield proc whenever you fall below 40% maximum health to aid your survivability.

Make sure to upgrade your Starter item and Relics!
