Chains extend from Ares' shield, doing damage to all enemies in its path. Hitting a god shackles them to Ares, Cripples them, preventing movement abilities, dealing the same damage every second while slowing them by 15% and buffing Ares. While shackled, Ares can fire another chain for free within 2s. Jungle Camps take an extra +40% damage.

Introduction

This is my conquest build for Ares, Greek God of War. Give he is a guardian he is going to tank he also has an unique passive. I created this build and guide to help any Ares players understand how to make a dominant Ares while getting mostly defensive items.
This guide will cover the pros/cons of the build, the items and what they do, and the abilities of the god. So without further ado let's get started.

Skills

I think the first thing we need to do is talk about the skills of Ares, God of War so let's start.
-Blessed Presence: This is Ares passive it states that for every completed aura item Ares owns grant him 30 additional magical power. That means that all the items in this build will also give him 30 magical power each.

-Shackles: Ares first ability it states that chains extend from ares shield doing damage to all enemies in its path. Hitting a god shackles them to ares crippling them, preventing movement abilities, and dealing damage every second while slowing them and buffing Ares. This is a great ability to slow down fast moving gods so you or a partner can kill them, and it works great with searing flesh.

-Bolster Defense: This is Ares primary support buff, it states that Ares strengthens the defense of himself and all nearby allie, granting protections and reducing crowd control durations. For each shackled enemy the protection buffs are increased. This means that if you shackle a enemy god then bolster defense it makes it hard for you and your teammates around you to be killed and controlled.

-Searing Flesh: This it the primary ability that Ares will be using 9 out of 10 time. It states that flames pour forth from Ares' shield, engulfing enemies in a cone in front of him causing damage every .5S for 4S. Ares is immune to knockback for the duration. Like I said with shackle this works great with it because it going to be your primary damage dealer.

-No Escape: Ares' Ultimate. Ares throws chains out to all enemy gods in an area around him. All enemies hit by the chains are pulled to Ares after 2.5S, taking damage and are stunned. A lot of combos can be pulled with this move because it allows you to pull them to any pace you want before the chains retract. If used correctly and paired with gods that have AoE ultimate like Hades and Izanami then you can clear an enemy team easily and get a deicide.

Pros / Cons

Okay the pros and cons of this build are as followed.

-Pros:
-easily tanky with the passive granting power
-Great at lane control.
-good damage.
-Dominant late game.

-Cons:
-Needs items with Aura effect to build damage.
-Soft early game.
-Very slow to build up too.
- ultimate is easy to dodge.

Those are the pros and cons and I think through testing it makes a pretty evened out god to play with.

Items

All the items I use with the exception of two are Aura items so let's do down the list of what to buy.

1: Watchers Gift: this item is a good early game through Mia game item to have. Giving Ares +100 health, +5 MPS and HPS, along with its passive ability that by being in assist of a enemy minion or jungle camp with out dealing the killing blow awards +4 gold and restores +7 health and mana. This item can be traded for Mark of the Vanguard if you want reduced damage and increase physical protection.

2: Shoes: the reason being is because you are going to lead up to Reinforced Shoes that give you +20 Magical Power, +75 Health, +20% Crowd Control Reduction, and + 18% Movement Speed along with its passive of every time you are damaged by a god you gain a stack that provides 3 physical and magical protections that stack up to 6 time for 6 seconds.

3: Pythagorem's Piece: this item gives you +60 Magical Power, +15% Magical Lifesteal, and +10% Cooldown Reduction along with its Aura ability which gives +30 Magical Power and +15% Magical Lifesteal to all allies within 70 units. This will be the item that kick starts Ares passive.

4: Heartward Amulet: this item gives you +45 Magical Protection and +200 Health. It's Aura gives all allies within 70 units +20 Magical Protections and MPS.

5: Rod of Asclepius: this item gives you +75 Magical Power, +250 Health, and +10% Movement Speed. The Aura increases all healing and health regeneration of allies within 70 units by 25%.

6: Void Stone: this item gives you +40 Magical Power and +50 Magical Protection. The Aura reduces the Magical Protections of enemies within 55 unit by 20.

And finally for the main build 7: Mystic Mail: and as a fore note this is technically number three on the list of items to get. It gives you +300 Health and +40 Physical Protection. The Aura deals 40 Magical Damage per second to enemies within 25 units.

Optional items to consider are;
1: the book of Thoth: this item gives you +125 Mana, +15 MPS, and +100 Magical Power. It's passive however it why I put this item on the build for optional. The passive permanently gives you 10 Mana per stack up to 75 stacks, 1 for minion kills 5 for God kills, additionally 3% of your Mana is then converted to magical power.

2: Pestilence: it gives you +80 Magical Protection and +200 Health. This is an Aura item so it will work with Ares passive, the Aura is the same as the Rod of Asclepius.

3: Sovereignty: this item gives you +200 Health and +30 Physical Protection. The Aura gives all allies within 70 units +30 Physical Protection and +25 HPS.

4: Witchblade: this item gives you +50 Physical Protection and +15% Attack Speed. The Aura reduces the attack speed of enemies within 55 units by 20% and also reduces Physical Power by 30.

5: Emperor's Armor. This is a replacement for Mystic Mail if you want. This item gives you +250 Health and +30 Physical Protection. It's Aura however effects Structures. Enemy Structures Attack Speed is reduced by 30% while allied Structures Attack Speed is increased by 30%. This is good for going after towers and I might consider putting this in the main build.

Summary

In closing this build for Ares is to work with his passive by getting mostly protection you also gain power. I beleive the old saying is the best offense is defense, and Ares personifies that saying. And leave a comment about this build tell me how it works for you and tell me if the Emperor's Armor should be placed into the main build.

The problem with Ares is that he doesnt make much use of raw power from items like Pythagorem's Piece of Book of Thoth.

Spear of the Magus is a better pick up here if you want damage, which is good because its also cheaper.

I'd also suggest throwing in a Hide of the Urchin somewhere in there as its the best defense item in the game. The earlier you stack it, the better.

blink is almost a mandatory relic to have, not just for setup, but sometimes to escape.

Also Id personally max his chains over his fire skill wise.

Thanks for the feedback and I'll see if it works but the point of this build is to work with his passive to build the magical power while all you have to do is build protections for you and your team.
