Introduction

Hello to all and Welcome to the underworld!

First off , my name is Middnights and i mostly play anubis mid , I find that he is amazing god to play , even though most people thinks he's trash

I will be covering in this guide how I play Anubis trough early to late game , how i build him and why plus a very strategies that I do myself

~ Please review the item section for the build and what situation is best to purchase which item first

Pros / Cons

Pros

-High Damage
-Non-ult Stun
-AOE damage

Cons

-Very Squishy
-Has no build-in jumps or dash's
-Must stay in place to do damage

Items / Abilities

ITEMS

Doom Orb : When you hvae max stats it gives 120 magic , probably the item that gives the most magic at max stacks ( Works well with Rod of Tahuti )

Spear of the Magus : Gives Health , Magic power , and Magic penetration. Very good early game , but falls off late game so it's best to switch it out with Obsidian Shard

Wall of Absolution : Magic power , Mana regen and a ton of armor , this is a must vs physical carrys , if you are against a physical dealer in mid i suggest this as second item before/after boots

Rod of Tahuti : Must buy on all Magic power users , gives MP5 , Magic power and a Magic power increase as a passive. This item works well with Doom Orb plus all the pots you will be buying after you are full build

Boots of the Magi : Since the new patch , i wouldn't go Reinforced Boots anymore since you already have the CC reduction build in , so go for the normal mage ones instead as you will get 50 magic power and mana wwh are better then the defensive ones

Obsidian Shard : End game item to negate magic protection. Usually replace Spear of the Magus with this item

Warlock's sash : Stack item , gives Magic power , Health and Mana. Good all around tanky item with the health it gives

Pythagorem's Piece : Gives Magical power , Mana, Magical lifesteal and a Magic power giving passive. If somebody already has it on your team then you can skip this if you don't want the magical lifesteal , though if you have plenty of magical oriented gods , it could help to do more damage in teamfights

~ Now start off with either Doom Orb or Spear of the Magus , which ever you feel more comfortable with , after that you should purchase either boots or your defensive item , first think , do you have enough damage to kill your opponent , if yes then boots so you can better catch up to him , if not then buy either Wall of Absolution for physical or Void Stone for magic , then go for your boots.

~After this is done decide how much magic resistance they have , if they bought 0 or 1 piece , then go for Spear of the Magus , remember to keep your Void Stone passive if you got that, if they bought more then Obsidian Shard . My logic behind this is that you have so much Magic resistance reduction going on with your passive, spear ( and void stone ) that even 1 piece won't be enough to save him , though 2 pieces will be a problem.

~ Last part is pretty simple , Rod of Tahuti for power , last item is either Warlock's sash if you want to be a bit more tanky or Pythagorem's Piece for more damage and Magical lifesteal

ABILITIES

Sprint : This is a must , passive movement speed plus a active movement speed + slow immune boost so you can either catch up to gods or run away from them

Purification Beads or Aegis Amulet , I usually take one of the other depending on their CCs , if they have stuns like anubis or artemis then i get beads , if not Aegis would probably be better since it gives passive protection plus that 2 second immunity

Focus

Now with focus added to Smite you might think it a good idea to build some on Anubis , it is good to have focus on him yes but don't go looking for focus items.

With focus his stun and slows last longer but deals less damage in the process , so more damage - shorter sun or longer stun - less damage , as Anubis is a AOE damage dealer you would need to priotize dealing damage then CC'ed longer.

Some items in the build will give focus but now that they buffed his stun to be a longer duration , you will mostly get that 2 seconds stun you had before ( maybe even more )

Stats

After you build every item and are ready to go into the stats page here is a list of reccomended purchases , though it is always up to you to decide which one you think suits the situation better

~ Magical Power : Must , always a good idea to deal more damage

~ Magical Lifesteal : I would suggest going into this if the enemy team doesn't have a lot of stuns , no stuns = you keep channeling your abilities and getting a lot of HP back from this lifesteal

~ Magical penetration : If going for the low Magic resistance item build then I would suggest going into this since it would help , but if you have the Shard this isn't going to do that much

~ Cooldown Reduction : If you are running out of options , would also be a good choice , more CDR = more spells you can cast in a shorter time frame

~ Physical / Magical protection : If you feel the need to get a bit more tanky , go inot either one of these to get that protection you need

~ Speed : Must , more speed would mean that you can dodge attacks easier , distract longer and catch up to running enemies

~ Focus : If you feel the need to have a stun that is longer and a slower that is higher , would also be a good choice

Early Game ( Lvl 1 - Lvl 4 ) < Mid Lane >

To start i usually either go Doom Orb wth pots or Spear of the Magus with pots .Difference is that with the Spear of the Magus you have less pushing power since you will run out of mana quicker , but you have more damage thus more chance to 1-combo the enemy during the laning phase. The choice is mostly if you want to be more passive or aggressive.

Now what you want to do is push and push and push until you hit level 5 , so the best trick to do is when the enemy minions are walking down the lane , try to use Grasping Hands behind the first melee minion , because then the hands will hit all other 5 minions for max damage on the archers , after level 6 you will start to almost one shot the archers minions with Grasping Hands alone.

RECAP

- Push waves away from your tower
- Wait out until level 5
- Don't Die!

Lvl 5 - Mid game < Mid Lane >

When you hit level 5 and you have everything up , if the enemy has Less then 75% health , Mummify , Grasping Hands then Death Gaze ( If you can land Grasping Hands before your Mummify then that would be better ) if he has no tanky items that would one-combo anyone , if he is at 100% health try to damage him a bit then combo him , another strategy that could work is to have archer minions backing you up , just keep doing this everytime your ult is up and it will be a kill if you can land your stun , unless he has Purification Beads or he got tanky items. After level 5 , if you have a few items , then you can jungle as well , every few camps will propel you forward into the lead which is always a good idea

RECAP

- Below 75% Health , Mummify and nuke him
- Above 75% Health , try to damage him down for a instant kill
- Can use minions as a extra source of damage
- Jungle if you have the power to do so

Mid Game

I consider that when you have destroyed the enemy tower it goes into mid game , by this point i will assume you have speed items ( Boots / Sprint ) , with speed you can go gank / help other lanes or jungle a bit , at this point i would suggest you buy wards , ward around Gold Fury and at least have 1 at Fire Giant , just for the vision. Now ganking works the same as killing someone, just go in and Mummify > Grasping Hands > Death Gaze it would 1-combo anyone even tanks depending on how fed you are , the reason being that you are higher level then them ( because you are in a solo lane ) so you will deal more damage then they would expect and they would have less hp. if no lanes seem gankable or they are missing , take Yellow / Blue / Green buffs when they are up and try to get a Gold Fury kill if you can have your teammates come take it while you defend it / scare the enemy team away

RECAP

- After the enemy tower is down , start roaming
- Ward objectives and places where enemy usually goes trough
- Try to get Gold Fury if possible

Late Game

When people start grouping up and doing teamfights , it's time for late game , Basically the role for Anubis is to , target their carries , the people that are weak but does the damage , kill them then run away and wait for cooldowns then go back in. Basically just wait out until you see someone that is not a tank go ahead , Mummify him , burst him then back away until you get your Grasping Hands back then go back in , Mummify if it's up , then Grasping Hands into Plague of Locusts , repeat until the teamfight is over....or you're dead. Utilize your speed that you get from items , you are probably the fastest god right now if you have , boots 3 / Wand / Sprint , so if you can get people to chase you it'll waste their time and your team can clean up better

RECAP

- Target Enemy carries
- Try to distract people when stuff is on Cooldown
- Do lots of damage!

Side Lane Strategy / Other gods to lane with

If you want to play Anubis as a side laner , you are welcome to do so. I find anubis in a side lane less effective in mid game but depending on your laning partner you can get fed easier and quicker ( 2 Gods to kill! )

~ I Will be doing this in only 1 chapter , but will be dividing as best as i can

Starting items : I will suggest you go with the Doom Orb build if you're going to be side laning , as pushing and spamming spells will be a priority and with the Spear Of Magus you will not have any MP5 at all so you will not be able to use your spells constantly. After that go trough the normal build ( or your own )

Early Game ( Before Level 5 ) :

Basically the same as in mid lane , just farm , damage them a bit if you can, but mostly wait it out until level 5

Early Game ( After level 5 ) :

Alright now same step as before , you have to try to land your Mummify then finishing them off with your combo , this part will be difficult as if you finish one of them off you still another to get rid of , but you have exhausted all your spells , so i would suggest to run around distracting him while your laning partner gets him

Mid - Late Game : You can see the strategy on the last chapter as only the early game is affected mostly when laning in a side lane

Good Laning Partners

~ Ymir : Has a AOE Stun , perfect to initiate and you both work really good together

Strat : at level 5 , tell Ymir to not worry about it , just go and stun their squishiest target , tell him that the second he stuns correctly , to start Ulting , forget about his 2 just to ult. When he stuns and starts ulting , use your Grasping Hands if your close , if you are far then Mummify first , then do the either Mummify / Grasping Hands and ult , you will do a lot of damage and most likely you will be in Ymir's ult preventing the non-stunned target for attacking you in fear of death. If you are unable to kill the Target , don't Worry Ymir will finish him off with his ult!

~ Ares : His ult makes them go together , so easy to Grasping Hands and Death Gaze , has a slow and a Defense increasing ability....also Aura master

Strat : Same as before wait until level 5 , then tell Ares to Ult one or both targets if he can , you can also suggest that when he ults to just stop moving at some point or that he goes into your Grasping Hands , time it well so it starts dealing damage when they come back to Ares. After that Mummify the Death Gaze , the Mummify is to make sure you will AT LEAST get 1 kill off of it. Now be cautious , because they would usually get Aegis making them immune to Ares ult , so after a while this won't work anymore

~ Guan Yu : His Ult provides a stun , can heal and he also slows

Strat : At 5 tell Guan Yu to Ult the weakest target , the second he hits that third time ( which provides the stun ) Mummify into Combo , his little damage and yours should be enough to kill him. Now be wary as the second Guan yu starts ulting the other enemy could just go towards you and mess with you , so this isn't a 100% chance of victory in lane but still a good one

~ Artemis : Stun , Provides Good Physical damage , slow and a snare

Strat : At level.....you guess it! 5 , tell artemis to ult when she can in range of them , always aiming for the weakest. After the boar hits him Mummify him and Combo him down , this time artemis will also provide damage assistance in the form of physical damage , which if they god Magic resistance to reduce yours , it will not reduce hers.Be wary however as you are both carries and are relatively squishy.

~ Bacchus : Stun , Jump to close gaps

Strat : Same as usual , at level 5 wait for his stun then combo the enemy down , just get the feel for his burp's stun duration to get stunned and stun duration

Average Laning Partners

Anhur : Good physical damage , Very skill shot stun

Strat : wait for anhur to hit his stun at level 5 then proceed to combo he enemy , though his stun is only good if he can land the pillar - stun combo or he hits them into a wall. What's good about anhur is that his ult works well if you stun the target again so the enemy will have 2 Damage over a area ultimate ability in their face that they need to survive

Arachne: Slow , Poison DoT damage , mini spiders that can help in the fight , usually jungles , Skill shot stun , silence ability

Strat : If arachne can land her ult stun , you and her can burst people down really quickly. If she ults her target very close to you , you can apply Mummify then do your combo , while arachne can put down a egg and apply some damage , if the combo did not kill him then you are able to Locust Swarm while arachne jumps on him to silence him , he will be silenced so he can't jump or dash away and he will also have mini spiders hitting him causing slows

Agni : Good burst , has a very quick stun , can finish off running targets

Strat : wait until agni stuns then quickly Mummify , i find that agni stun is shorter then most stuns so you wouldn't be able to Grasping Hands into Mummify before they jump or dash away. Agni is also good at finishing off run away targets that have survived your onslaught

Conclusion

This lists only does with a CC stun that can make use of your very skillshot stun , stun into a stun shares no reduced stun effect as in other games ( if you stun a target with multiple stuns the duration shortens until he is immune for a few seconds ) , so for example a ymir stun into your stun will lock the target there for a good amount of time. Other gods can also be usefull to lane with but does not plan on a coordinated teamplay that goes off the normal to pull off, basically you just follow each other into combat.

I also suggest talking to your laning partner , become friends with them as they will work better with you if they don't hate you

Advance tactics

Here i point out things that i do , that i only suggest if you feel comfortable doing so

1 : When you go into lane as level 1 , try to clear the wave as soon as possible , try to make sure your archers remain alive. When the wave is cleared and you minions are advancing you will hit level 2 by this point , quickly grab your Mummify land it on the enemy god then Grasping Hands , the damage that your auto attacks + Grasping Hands + archer minions will do is gonna be high , probably not enough to kill him but enough for him to burn 1-2 pots depending if he had the protection buff or not

2 : If you are going agaisnt a melee God ( and he is attacking you right now ) and you don't have your Mummify , Grasping Hands on your location and run around it , trying to dodge his attacks while he takes damage from it , when your stun is back up , Mummify and either run away or kill him if you enough abilities up and he is low health

3 : While running away , unless you can Mummify , NEVER TURN AROUND. Turning around makes you go slower for a seconds which is enough for them to catch up and kill you , instead continue to go forward and drop your Grasping Hands in front of you , with that if they are still chasing you they will most likely need to go trough the slow or try to dodge it which will slow them down anyways , plus you do not need to turn around so you are still going at the same speed as usual

4 : Even when low health you are still a formidable force , if you are low and gods are chasing you to try to kill you , wait until your abilities are up , cut a corner , turn around and ambush them with your Mummify + Combo , if you are fed ( or if ult is up ) high chances are they will not srvive long enough to get out of the stun.

PS : Be aware if hey have Beads of purification or something to get out of the stun , remember you are still low health and can be killed if they are not stunned long enough

Summary

For Anubis , your main goal is mostly to go in , take out their weak carries then run around until you get your stun back then go back in , he is a very squishy and on top of that you need to stay there immobile to cast half your spells , so basically hit your stun , kill but stay mobile to survive!

PS : Will be updating this guide from Time to Time( probably if something changes with a patch ) , also feel free to comment! leave suggestions or Questions if you like! You can also message me with any Anubis questions if you like , and i will try to answer them at the best of my abilities
