Introduction.

Hello, everyone. Here it is another guide created by Dark Jaw. This time is time for the Egyptian God Anubis! Anubis is a heavy Magical damage mage, very reliant of his combo. He is also one of my few favorite gods of the game that I'm making guides about! With the recent buffs, Anubis goes well with Magical Lifesteal, which many people found useless. Not on Anubis, though! Hope you guys enjoy this guide as well as my others.

Remember: NEVER FOLLOW A GUIDE COMPLETELY! BUILDS ARE SITUATIONAL!

Check it out my other guides:

Anoobis or the Almighty Anubis?

Many people consider ''Anoobis'' the worst god on the game. Of course he is on bad hands, you shouldn't blame Anubis like that! He is a face melter, pubstomper with a jackal head. You need to know what you're doing when playing Anubis, or else you'll be casted to the Underworld.

Anubis is similar to Pudge from Dota 2, or Malzahar from League of Legends. Both are very combo realiant, are Pubstompers and can screw up a game if they don't know what they're doing.

With this guide, you'll take all your doubts about Anubis! Not about Pudge or Malzahar, though.

Pros & Cons!

Pros!

[*] TONS of Damage. If not one of the highest AP damage mages.
[*] Amazing Passive. Sorrow.
[*] Lots of sustain if built Lifesteal.
[*] Anubis is one of the most well-known Egyptian gods, also he has a jackal head.
[*] Pubstomper.
[*] Hard CC. Mummify.

Cons!

[*] Very squishy.
[*] No Escapes.
[*] Combo reliant.
[*] 2 Abilities roots Anubis.
[*] No Escapes. Again.

Summary.

SUMMARY

Anubis is an amazing mage, with low mobility but one of the highest AP Damage of the game. His Plague of Locusts is an damage per tick ability in a cone, Mummify is his stun, Grasping Hands his ground target ability that does damage and slows, and his Ultimate, Death Gaze is a big and hard-hitting ability, reccquired a stun to go well. Only recommended to experienced players!

Skills.

Sorrow.
Passive.
All of Anubis' abilities steal physical and magical protection from the target. In addition, Sorrow grants Anubis an additional 30% reduction to all crowd control durations (does not stack with Resolve).
Ability: Buff/Debuff
Affects: Self/Enemy
Stolen per Tick: 7
Duration: 5 seconds
Max Stacks: 3

Amazing passive! As you HAVE problems with heavy CC, the reduction is nice. Not saying that you STEALS the protections, increasing your survivability.

Plague of Locusts.
Skill 1.
A plague of locusts bellows forth from Anubis' mouth, smothering all enemies in the area and doing damage every .5s for 3s.
Ability: Cone
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Damage per Tick: 35/50/65/80/95 (+40% of your magical power)
Cost: 60/70/80/90/100
Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds

Nice damage output! You're also immune to Knockbacks while casting this. Let's suppose you're facing He Bo. Then BAM, you combo him and casts Plague of Locusts, then He Bo will probably use his Waterspout, lolnope, you'll only receive the damage. That's why you upgrate that secondly.

Mummify.
Skill 2.
Anubis fires a bandage projectile, mummifying and stunning his target.
Ability: Projectile
Affects: Enemy Gods
Stun Duration: 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8/2 seconds
Cost: 60
Cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14 seconds

If it isn't your infamous Mummify! As you know, it's a projectile, hard to use. But if you land it, it's probably a kill! The stun is nice, that does no damage. Also, you'll rape faces already with the items you'll buy, so a short stun is enough. That's why you upgrate it last.

Grasping Hands.
Skill 3.
Anubis calls for help from the underworld as hands penetrate the ground and claw at his enemies, doing damage slowing every .5s for 2s.
Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Radius: 20
Damage per Tick: 25/40/55/70/85 (+35% of your magical power)
Slow: 25%
Cost: 70/80/90/100/110
Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds

If not my favorite ability of Anubis! The most damaging one after your Ultimate, Death Gaze. It gives tons of damage and also slows foes on it. You can use it before your Mummify, if you've problems on hitting it. That's why you upgrate it first!

Death Gaze.
Skill 4, ''Ultimate''.
Anubis focuses all of his energy into a piercing gaze, doing damage to all enemies in the path, every 0.3 seconds for 3 seconds.
Ability: Line
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Damage per Tick: 70/85/100/115/130 (+45% of your magical power)
Cost: 90
Cooldown: 90/85/80/75/70 seconds

Your most damaging, as most Ultimates of the game. It's pretty easy to miss, and you're rooted, so if you're on a teamfight and bad positioned, you'll have problems. Aside from that, Death Gaze is an amazing ability. Upgrade it when possible.

Build 1: AP Mage Items.

Gives you some nice amounts of CDR, which is nice to have your abilities ready. Also, it gives you extra Magical Power.

Then you ask yourself, ''Why the **** do I get that item so early''? Simple: It's cheap( 590gold if I'm not wrong) and synergies extremely well with Anubis. It gives you awesome amounts of Magical Lifesteal and gives you heavy magical power. Anubis has being transformed into an item!

Every Anubis ability is a ticking ability. This synergies well with Anubis, penetrating a lot. You can get Obsidian Shard instead if you'd like, but not recommended.

THAT EARLY? Yes, yes indeed. I know some people may say that it's too early to get Rod of Tahuti, but you need heavy AP damage. Also you'll have gold enough to buy it, you'll be probably getting souls around.

Holy Neith, I only used to see that item around on Poseidon or maybe Zeus, but look who's the new owner of that Green Book: Anubis! With the recent updates, Magical Lifesteal became extremely viable on Anubis, also it gives your next basic attack a tremendous amount of extra AP damage, Magical lifesteal and Magical Power.

I don't care if I'm the only mage of the team and I get this! Gives you more Magical Lifesteal, Magical Power and Mana. Everything Anubis needs.

If Anubis didn't receive his buff, then this item wouldn't be on situationals. Well, get this if you're having trouble against the enemies' Mages( AKA Poseidon, the guy that counters you... and every other mage).

Those jungle days... argh! Once you're around, having fun pushing a lane and taking towers downs. THEN BAM! A wild Apollo appeared! Get this if you're having problems with AD Gods( Specially against fed ADCs, Fed Anhur and Apollo are terrible problems).

Why not to harvest more SOULS with this, eh? This one shot squishies with your combo, just remember to not Mummify the enemy when the passive of Soul Reaver is up. I think the passive affects Mummify, more studies are needed to proof that.

Build 2: Stackables.

Since you'll be focusing on Stackables, you'll probably miss a penetration item. You'll sacrifice CDR, but you'll get Penetration instead, good item tho.

The most powerful stackable magical item of the game, imo. It's pretty hard to survive, specially if you're Anubis, so get this if you're REALLY confident of what you're doing. If you manage to get all those stacks and not die, you'll faceroll all game.

Warlock's Sash
Pretty hard to get all those stacks up( Max 100), but go for it! You'll get mana, health and magical power, good stuff for ya.

I used to get this when I was a noob, or when I play Ao Kuang. Well, it gives you tons of mana to cast your spells. 50 Stacks. Be careful: Expensive item! That's why you'll waste all your mid game trying to get this.

Gotta love this item. Explained on the Build 1 Section.

Gotta love this item as well. Explained on the Build 1 Section.

Actives.

Sprint
Playing Anubis? GET THIS OR ELSE! As you have NO ESCAPE abilities, this Active increases your survivability.

As you're ''godamn'' squishy, this is important to survive on sticky situations, such as Release The Kraken! and Spirit's Tempest.

I'd only suggest you to get those if the enemies have a lot of CC( Team Comp Example: Thor, Ymir, Eset, Sobek and Anhur). Aside from that, get Aegis Amulet instead.

Get this if your team doesn't have one. Well, I'd say your team's tank should get this, but anyway...

Your combo.

---> ---> ---> .

This is your usual combo. If your ultimate, Death Gaze, is down, then skip to Plague of Locusts.

BAD AIM:

---> ---> ---> .

Wait you've bad aim? THEN WHY ARE YOU PLAYING Anubis?! Just kidding. This is the combination if you usually miss your Mummify. Skip to Plague of Locusts as well if your ultimate is down.

REMEMBER: If they're stunned already, then there is no reason to Mummify! Then do Grasping Hands and Death Gaze or Plague of Locusts.

Laning.

Grasping the Early Game.

Anubis, during the early game, shall play passive, as his abilities are still weak. Nothing much to say about that game phase, try to farm a lot and to avoid deaths. When you hit Level 5, you'll be able to melt down your enemies.

Mummifying the Mid Game.

Time to hang out with our Doggy friend and gank! The Mid game is characterized by the fact Ganks are much more frequent, and also you'll be a face melter( as you'll have your core build ready!).

Try to gank the lanes in need of help AFTER you taking down the first enemies' tower on your lane. Being it the Mid Lane or Side Lane.

Lots of kills.

Plaguing the Late Game.

Time to end this once for all! If the enemies haven't surrended this far, then it's time for TEAMFIGHTS. Where you facemelt people with your big AoE abilities( Grasping Hands and Plague of Locusts). Try to get behind you tank, and please, position yourself well. As not only you, but the enemies' carries will be powerful as well, unless you've been fed.

GG!

Good Partners and Counters.

Embalming Friends

Friends of Anubis, gods that usually lane well if Anubis is not on Mid Lane.

Ares
My favorite partner! His infamous Ultimate, No Escape, that forces the enemies' to buy Purification Beads and Aegis Amulet to counter is way amazing. Specially to get a double kill during the early game, as they'll be surprised to lane against Anubis and Ares! Although both are magical, that combination is way deadly.
Synergying: 8/10
Killing: AMAZING!

Sobek
Sorry, brother. You've been left for the second favorite partner. Well, Sobek and Anubis, as brothers, synergies extremely well. But a lot of communication is needed between those two: If Sobek Charge Prey and Anubis hits his Mummify, the Sobek SHALL NOT Tail Whip the enemy. This will make things worse! Tail Whip it AFTER the Stun of Mummify. Both are magical, though.
Synergying: 9/10
Killing: Nice.

Ymir
AKA the Stunner. Ymir has a wall, a slow, a big AoE ultimate and his infamous Freeze. With Ymir, you won't need to use your Mummify, saving it to your next prey. Both are magical, and both have bad initiation, specially if Ymir doesn't buy Blink.
Synergying: 7/10
Killing: Good.

Thor
The Almighty Thor, the God of THUUUUNDERRRR. Thor is a heavy CC Bruiser, that goes extremely well with Anubis. Once, long ago, Thor used to not have Teleports, only his Ultimate. He was a Bruiserish Anubis. Now, times has changed, and Thor has 2 stuns and 2 escapes. But be careful: Thor is squishy if built not correctly, so a lot of communication is needed in here. High damage, but squishies.
Synergying: 8/10
Killing: Good.

Athena
The Goddess of Wisdow, Athena, is an enemy to be feared and respected. Athena is known by her Confound and Defender of Olympus abilities, that, when laning with Anubis, becomes a death trap. Confound the enemies, they'll have NO WAY to escape from your Mummify. Confound can be also used to save Anubis from bad situations. Defender of Olympus is useful when Anubis is in danger.
Synergying: 7/10
Killing: Nice.

Mummy Corpses

Gods that you'll probably have a hard time. Call for ganks and help from the jungler, or someonelse.

Agni
Gotta hate this guy. Whenever god I play against him, I usually lose the lane! And I don't know how to play that godamn jumper, ffs! Well, if he is a stupid, then he'll Path of Flame to you during the early game. Make use of it! Mummify + Grasping Hands him down. Well, if he is a smarty-pants, then you're screwed.
Difficulty: 8/10.
Killing: Hard.

Poseidon
Well, Poseidon is similar to you: An ground target AoE damaging ability( Whirlpool), an Projectile( Tidal Surge and a Deadly Ultimate( Release The Kraken!). Although Poseidon has an advantage: SPEEEEEED BUFFZ. You'll have some hard time to Mummify that fishie down.
Difficulty: 7/10.
Killing: Average.

He Bo
If you thought Poseidon was similar to you, check it out: It's He Bo! That guy is almost exactly like you: Both are godamn squishies and are Magical Assassins. Be careful with that guy! You counter his Waterspout with your Plague of Locusts, tho! But he has an counter for that: Crushing Wave, as you'll be rooted. It will hurt a lot, be aware.
Difficulty: 8/10.
Killing: Average/Hard.

Chronos
GODS ****ING DAMNIT. That guy IS your counter. In Chronos Reveal video, he is doing exactly what is going to happen: You'll combo him, waste all your abilities, almost kill him, then he'll Rewind, restore all his HP and kill you. Call ganks ALWAYS when possible.
Difficulty: 10/10 YOU'RE SCREWED..
Killing: Hard.

Regarding Build 2:

even dough Doom Orb is good starting item on many mages I wouldn't recommend it on Anubis. I would rather go for Sash and Book and instead of Doom I would go with Gem of Isolation. Anubis's #3 provides 25% slow and with Gem that is extra 25% slow. Otherwise, I like the build.

There could be made slight change. Bancroft's talon is good on Anubis especially if bought early on. Since this is snowball build, priority take Sash and Book. Book on rank 3 provide nice passive 3% of mana is converted to magical power. So I would rather put Pythagorem's Piece. This item has 15% life steal and has +300 mana. Lifesteal stacks better with Anubis's passive while extra mana works good with Book of Thoth.

I'll make some tests and edit that reply as soon as possible.

What's your opinion for Jungle Anubis? :D

Anubis in the Jungle is something VERY interesting. Good at ganking and cleaning the camps; the problem is that he is reliant on the cooldowns. Only should clean the camps when your 3 and 1 are up. It's also player dependant, the player MUSNT miss his 2, or else he is doomed when ganking.

I plan to add an Jungle guide soon. I tried it once, and won. It's hard to convince people to go jungle anubis.

Nice guide bro! Btw, have you ever considered anubis jungling? I tried it and it works decently well. Also, I find vamana is a big counter. He can burst you down fairly easily and his ult in the right hands can stop your burst working. But yeah, good job on that guide.

I tried to jungle. Failed so hard. I'm better at Mid laning and side-laning as Anubis. May be soon enough I shall try jungle again. The problem with Jungle Anubis is that he can clear a camp fast, but he needs to wait his 1 + 3 to be up to do so. Or else he is screwed. Specially early if he doesn't gets help.

It's a shame that it will be so hard for this guide to see the light, as most will likely flock to the top-rate Anubis guide. I think both yours and the second rated Anubis guide deserve much more credit as they both carry so much more information. It seems many of the original guides are subpar compared to newer releases, but it's very difficult to usurp their positions because of how long they've been there.

I would just like to say that all of your guides are detailed and I hope you continue to publish them.

I know right. Some guides should be deleted when they get too much out dated. Tons of guides on SmiteFire are out dated, and some are only builds.

Thank you! I was thinking about to publish an Ao Kuang guide. I guess it's time to unarchive it.

Tbh, I prefer to always use your "bad-aim" "rotation". Reason is, that if you stun first, and cast Grasping Hands after, you often miss out on a tick or maybe two. Situations exists, where you stun first of course, but landing your slow and then stunning, also makes it easier to hit with your ultimate a few times before they try to evade.

Speaking of counters, I admit He Bo is annoying as hell. Those low cooldowns on his skills kills Anubis. But Poseidon and Agni rarely seems to be a threat really, Anubis' damage is higher and just owns them both. Unless you aren't at full health (which I am most of the time, lifesteal and picking your fights is a winner), then the Kraken mostly takes you down. Agni is just annoying because of the dash, so always let it be used first, which can be done with good positioning.

I hate Fenrir when I'm playing Anubis. That dog never gets killed by my abilities, and he seems to kill me everytime.

I have experienced laning with Arachne is awesome (I've done this a lot with a friend of mine, so yes, communication on Skype or the like really does the trick). That pull she does is a sure kill everytime, as long as you are aware of when to use your abilities. Arachnes slow seems to scare a lot of people, which is good, and her poison takes your enemy down with that DoT that Anubis doesn't have.
