In case you missed it, The Game Awards 2019 were on tonight, with the regular slew of music, yearly awards, and world premiers. This is the first time I actually watched it...was happy Chvrches, Grimes, and Green Day played.
If you want to watch it on YouTube, you can find it here:
Spoilers on award winners, nominees, and other stuff
So...I've never been a Souls kinda gamer. I get it, and a part of me has a fascination with it, but in the end it's just too technical and repetitive for my taste. I saw that IGN gave Control their game of the year, and although I only have personal experience with DS and Smash from that list, I feel DS and Control are a lot more unique in ways, and was sorta hoping one of those won. RE2...a remake outside of maybe FF7 Remake should IMO never win game of the year...surprised it was one of the nominees. Who picks these, anyway?
Other winners had me intrigued or completely disinterested. I have 0 interest in anything Desity, Fortnite, Apex, or standard military shooter (Rainbow 6, CoD, Gears, etc.). But Disco Elysium does sound quite interesting, though maybe a bit too slow for my current tastes (well...I said that as an expectation about Death Stranding too, so what do I know?). I do have interest in Control as well, and decided to just pull the trigger and get GRIS on sale.
0% Interest in Xbox Series X (lol). Not that I've ever been an Xbox person (though I use their controller for my PC controller games), but now that they have their PC pass, I don't see the need.
Our old SF mod Zilby posted some Beat Saber gameplay on his channel, which makes me want to try it...but I don't have VR and probably won't ever get it...I anticipate nasty motion sickness, and it just costs too much for my tastes.
Seeing Beaker was rad...go Muppets (and muppet Goose)! And very happy to see Reggie. That was an Iwata Mii pin he was wearing, wasn't it? And of course, seeing Norman Reedus is giving me Death Stranding withdrawals (I let my friend borrow it).
As for games I'm looking forward to...
Upcoming games of interest
FF7 Remake (remains my #1 or #2 anticipated game of 2020)
Cyberpunk 2077 (the other #1 or #2)
Ori and the Will of the Wisps (this looks absolutely gorgeous)
Weird West (I dunno why I'm intrigued)
The Hellblade II trailer thing had a pretty catchy metal-whatever song, even though I'm not a metal music person
Maybe New World? I don't know what they game is going to be like.
The rest of the announced games, for the most part, was a snoozefest to me.
I have never been a fan of the TGA (I already said it, but I only will trust on TGA once they post who the hell chooses these games and why they voted on that game, until there it's just a show without credibility for me), but I appreciate Death Stranding didn't win (shouldn't even be mentioned, I hated that game).
About new xbox, nice to this **** gonna be a fridge-bar running games and that the copied and pasted the "Share button" from playstation. I don't see necessity but I appreciate it.
For last, can't wait to play Ori, the only game I'm REALLY EXCITED to play!!!
I watched, more for announcements than actual awards. announcements were fine at the start but got less and less interesting to me as the show went on, mostly cause none of them had any gameplay and cool cinematic trailers don't tell you anything about the actual game. Godfall looked cool and was probably the only one I was really excited about that I didn't already have eyes on. Didn't care much about the awards, but I will say it's a travesty Fortnite beat out FF14 for best ongoing game, though that's exactly how I figured it would play out.
