I am new to writing guides in general, but with over 100 games as Xbalanque and God Mastery at 7+ I feel I have enough experience in playing this god to try and help other people learn how to play or improve themselves as Xbalanque
Xbalanque is the harassing-flying-ninja-jaguar god who can be annoying to play against and is fun to play as. Xbalanque plays as a Physical Ranged AD Carry, containing a kit of many abilities to make him very mobile or aggressive. There are many ways to use Xbalanque's abilities, but knowing WHEN and how to use them are very important in deciding who lives or if you can escape. |
Pros
+ High Mobility + Extremely Good at Harassment with Poison Darts + Highest Damage Physical Carry (thanks to Branching Bola + High AoE Damage (all of his abilities) + Global Ult ( Darkest of Nights) + On-Demand CC immunity (via Rising Jaguar) Xbalanque has a kit filled with answers to almost any situation including an escape, slow, catch-up, AoE, and CC immunity. His high AoE damage make him extremely good to harass arena, and difficult to lane against with his high harassment. |
Cons
- Squishy - Lacks CC - Passive is useless without kills - Cripple hurts his combo/escape - Mana problems early game - Ult timing/use While Xbalanque has many upside, the only way to help his team via CC is through Darkest of Nights which needs to be used at the proper moment to be beneficial for the team. If Xbalanque is denied early kills his passive ( Dead of Night) will grow useless as the game progresses. |
Death's Toll is a great item for early game Conquest which not only allows for some early game sustain, but also provides some good stats (attack power and attack speed) that will be used until you acquire your 5th item, in which case it will be replaced with a more relevant item for late game. |
Warrior Tabi grants movement speed, physical penetration, and physical power. These are 3 things that are helpful to any physical god. Most likely each god will be using boots of some kind so the movement speed is relevant to both escape and keep up with enemy gods, the penetration and power increases the damage that can be done. |
Fatalis is not a very liked item, but has been starting to pop up on many gods in the games I've seen. It's used as both a defensive item via movement speed to get away or an offensive item to catch enemies who are running and to hit them more frequently. Gives movement speed and attack speed |
eye of retaliation | Eye of Retaliation is a really strong (and expensive) item that allows you to stand toe-to-toe with another carry or even assassin since it replaces health and the amount of damage+lifesteal it gives is based on your current health. Useful for sustain and staying in team fights. Gives Physical Lifesteal and physical power |
Rage; one of the best carry items due to it's passive that makes sure you are getting crits. It even helps you attack more by providing attack speed. The main part of the item is it's passive but being that it also grants physical power and it's own critical strike chance |
Comboing well with Rage, Deathbringer gives our crits an extra 50% damage making each crit even more deadly. Not only that, but it does it by also giving a large amount of physical power and helps bring in crits with it's own critical strike chance. One of the most upfront items that should be in any build with high amounts of crit or are looking to do more physical damage. |
Qin's Blades, one of the items I personally use as a 6th gives good carry stats, and a passive that will make your attacks do a decent percent of the enemy god's health regardless of their role and also provides attack speed to make it hit more often and the ever-present physical power to contribute to the non-passive damage part of the hits. |
There are games where Heartseeker is going to be a really good item, and it works really well with Xbalanque. The only reason it is not in the core build is that it is not a new player friendly item, it provides tons of physical power and a small amount of movement speed, however, I would pick it up as the first item after getting the first level of Tabi to gain early stacks. Not dying is a key part to using the item and if you feel your team or yourself is doing too bad to warrant using the item, I would suggest selling it earlier rather than later. |
Focused Voidblade | An item that is useful for if the other team's composition consists of a lot more physical damage than magical as it provides both physical protection and power alongside a good amount of (passive) penetration. Not only will it protect, but it wont give up a ton of power to do it, allowing Xbalanque to fight longer than the other team. |
Just like focused voidblade, Runic Shield is only used when the enemy team has an excessive amount of a certain damage type. In this case magical protection without sacrificing all of your physical power and without being killed over and over by mages/magical damage dealers. |
Against a team with heavy bruisers or tanks The Executioner provides a way to get through all of the enemy gods' defenses being able to (with the passive) lower their defenses and also add in some extra physical power and attack speed to get the passive stacks in easier. |
Not that often used hydras's lament allows the use of Xbalanque's abilities more often and if used right allow him to do big basic attack hits after using abilities. Provides cooldown reduction and physical power |

I have now read your guide. And I think it is quite good. But in my eyes Eye of Retaliation is good only for tanks. I can explain why. Because of the status of the missing health you will gain more and more attack damage, if you have more life, but Xba has about 2k health points at level 20.
Thats why u could get at most dmg from that passiv of the item 20 damage. And at the same time Xba can´t survive that long because in a direct fight he is very squishy, so that the item could be very usefull. And a tank you maybe know, how hard it is to get him on low health and in that time u try to bring the tank on low health the Eye of Retaliation should very usefull. And if you play Xba on much lifesteal, you will get per hit much of your health points back, thats why I think the Eye of Retaliation is useless.
It´s too low in my view. For Xba
It would be much better, if u would take Bloodforge or something else like that.
Hope u know what I mean.
But I tried out the Guide it´s very nice.
Quote up from my side ! :)
So the question is, is 45% attack speed better than 20% attack speed, 30 power, and 21% physical penetration? My answer is no.
I'm going to try him in a few Conquest matches and see how I do... I'll probably update the guide after that. He's definitely my favorite carry.
The only thing I dislike is Fatalis to be a core item. The Executioner could easily replace it, have similar results AND physical damage.
