Better build: , , , , , something else last item.

Though in ranked joust you usually see Baron built tanky with like 1 or 2 hybrid items and maybe a spear of the magus.

Can't suggest this build.

Your only pen in the build is from Spear of Desolation. You should at least consider Spear of the Magus due to his 3's ticking damage, and it probably should be prioritized in most cases over Deso to begin. You DO mention getting Obsidian Shard against tanky opponents...but you don't indicate what item to replace in your build...and I still think Magus is probably better in most cases.
You max CDR. You don't have to do this. You can get the blue mana buff which gives you 10%, or you can pick up a later Potion of Magical Might, which also gives you 10%. Switch to Shoes of the Magi for earlier damage potential, and/or as I said above, switch Deso for Magus.
