Fearless Ymir

This is my guide on how I play Ymir.

This build works best with high early game pressure (if duallane) or for good sustain in solo/mid. I tried solo and mid many times and was successful, on my 28 lvl account. This Build might not be super competetive or good against every god, I didn't reach lvl 30 yet.
But it's a ton of fun and can be devastating in the right skilled hands.

So let's get started...

Items

Reinforced Boots:
Gives you good early sustain with the Protections and the HP5, also the CC reduction is very good if you're solo laining to get out of that CC as quick as possible.

Fatalis:
May very well be the most controversial Item in this Build. But I'll explain why I get this, first of all, the movement speed. With this build you're playing kind of a support tank role. You can run around the map with insane speeds and position yourself to well land your abbilites that have very short range or dodge enemy abilites(Arachne, Ao Kuang, Zeus, ect.) especially, again, solo or mid lane.

Secondly the attack speed, it's great to harass enemies because ymirs cd's are fairly high, you can stun the enemy and immediately start bashing him with your club (or use your 2 first) and easily get those fatalis stacks up, with the passive you will do some really nice damage.

But you really need to have a strong early game, if you are to unskilled to compensate the little lower armor at the beginning or can't position yourself well you can get killed, and if you fall behind early you're not gonna be able to stay in a fight and use those basic attacks together with your fatalis, thus making it pretty useless.
If you get trough there tough, your enemies soon will fear you, you can take so many hits and bash them out of the lane with your club in no time.

Gauntlet of Thebes:
The HP5 and HP you need to keep your tankyness fresh. If you're solo or mid you can get these stacks up easily with your abilities and Basic attacks. You will soon be around 3k Health. HP5 is essential to be able to stay in a fight for long periods of time, to make good use of your auto-attacks.

Midgardian Mail/ Stone of Gaia:
Getting some physical/magical protection is important now, the teamfights should be or already started. Midgardian gives you some more HP, wich we need for the Ethereal Staff later, as well as the passive letting you bash longer on those enemies who want to fight back with their basic attacks, the Stone of Gaia will give you Huge HP5 because of this HP heavy build and is essential, get first whatever you like (take a look at the enemy team)

Ethereal Staff:
For the most part you should be playing a Support tank anyway so the damage isn't all that important but to give it a nice boost it the end finish off with the Ethereal Staff to keep that ulti dangerous.

Actives

Meditation
Most of the time I only use meditation for this build, buy it right off the bat together with your boots because you need that Mana early (especially in mid/solo)

Later you can upgrade it to lvl 3 and you will benefit greatly from the 25% HP regen because of this high HP build.

Role

You are a support tank, tough you can easily deal huge dmg early game (wich you need to to get some farm), later until you got the Ethereal Staff your damage will fall a bit short. But you can annoy the **** out of the enemy with your basic attacks, slows and stuns. Use your ulti wisely to zone enemies in Team battles, you can take enough hits to stand there.

The most important thing you gotta do when you have your items and you are a real support tank...
Zone out the enemy!

Ymir has everything he needs, Ice Wall to cut of enemies from the team, prevent follwing enemies or save your teammembers from a sneaky ult (Arachne ect.(yes it's possible, even twice in a row))
The Frost Breath keeps enemies away from crossing your path and is an excellent initiating tool, together with the Ice Wall

Shards of Ice has several uses. If an enemy is chasing your teammember, and you know they'll catch up, just use your ult it will block of the whole street and the enemies need to either get out of the way and stop the chase or take the single most damaging ulti of the whole game to their faces. Enemy wants to run away trough the jungle followed by your teamembers? Just put up a Ice Wall or Shards of Ice and they won't be able to pass.

Also, because you have so much speed from the Fatalis and so much HP, you can easily run into an enemy formation and pop your Shards of Ice, they will scatter all away from the circle of the ulti, thus spreading them and make them easy targets. (I do not recommend this tactic very much tough, because if they all focus you you will take some serious damage or even die, it's better to place the ult when the teamfight has already started)

Pros / Cons

Pros:
Your Teamembers will love you (Quote:"Best Ymir ever" "Thanks you saved my *** again" "VVGN, VVER!"
Very mobile
Great zoning/positioning
Strong early game if played well (solo lane possible)
Massive sustain with ridicilous HP and HP5

Cons:

Fatalis Gets useless if you feed the enemy
Medium Cooldowns
Requires some skill for dodging, positioning ect.

To be continued

...I gotta go now running out of time, if you like to try this build out go for it and tell me your expiriences you had with it :)

Grammar may be not supergood I was in a hurry.

Hmm... I smell what you're stepping in. His passive makes up in damage what tank items remove, which is why Ymir is such a good tank in my opinion. Do as you wish, builds are varied and no build is the best (well, there might be a superior build per character, but oh well).

Love moonwalking with Fatalis. So satisfying.

I do enjoy the free backpedaling. I use Fatalis on a Freya, so I know very well how the item helps early game and I love it.

However, on a tank who's not super basic-attack based, it's not helping you as much as it would if it had damage, which I don't suspect it ever will.

Yes, but he has the most starting dmg + scaling of any tanks for auto attacks in the game + his passive is also for his basic attack wich seems a bit wasted on some builds I think? (At the end with the passive you'll have 135 Physical Power) That's why I came to the Fatalis Idea, might not be the best one^^ Maybe I should consider this a fun build because it sure is a ton of fun :)

The no Backpedaling is just fantastic you're right, it's so fun to slide around in circles like you were on ice :D Love it for positioning and dodging indeed

But yeah, do experiment. Tank builds vary greatly and with Ymir having a build that is so tanky that you can stand there and taunt the enemy while they try to kill you.

Fatalis on a Ymir... am I missing something?

If you want speed, I've seen some of the best Ymir players start off with Boots of Celetiry, so that they can get up close, freeze the enemy, then open the way for attack. Great technique, plus a fast Ymir coming toward you is rather terrifying. Honestly, Fatalis just does not work here, and I suggest removing it for Breastplate of Valor. It gives Ymir some much needed CDR, and the mana and phys. protection are great.

I prefer to build Stone of Gaia earlier, it's a killer item! I can see that your build is designed to have a lot of health, but it doesn't have all that much for protections.

As such, I suggest that you work on the build a bit. Experiment with some stuff and try out what I suggested.

As for the guide, I like your use of color. Keep working on it and add some more sections. Good job so far.

*Psst* Try an AD Ymir build. They are really fun to do sometimes.

Like I said it's not a competetive build indeed and I'm still experimenting with it, but the Fatalis has some advantages over the Boots that I really like, you can walk backwards with the same speed at forwards with the full 500+ speed wich is very good to always keep you faced with the enemy to use walls, secondly the attack speed + the passive stacking up atack speed (wich is easy with a stunned enemy) is very good at early game believe me!

Well it's the easiest if you do a solo lane because you can constantly stun->punch them

But I can see your point.

Nice guide for a first guide (although can be a lot better) I don't really now about the items since I don't play tank but I know it's good. Adding some pictures and colors will be nice by making it like this Fatalis ([[fatali] add one more ]) just add the item when you fight either physical or magical and more gameplay (when to ult especially)

Thanks for the information, I made things a little clearer now :)
