Full build

Notes Pendulum of Ages is the core of Vulcan's build. It provides 20% Cooldown Rate to keep your turrets active and grants massive bonus Intelligence based on your mana.

Spear of Desolation is your snowball item. The massive Intelligence fuels your burst, while the passive resets allow you to fire multiple abilities in a single fight.

Book of Thoth is mandatory for a high-damage Vulcan build. It provides nearly 1000 Mana when evolved, ensuring you never run out of mana. More importantly, it converts that mana into raw Intelligence, making your abilities destroy enemy carries.

Gem of Focus turns Vulcan into the hardest god to catch in the game. The 12% Movement Speed from the passive synergizes perfectly with your passive, allowing you to juke endlessly while the 20% Cooldown Rate ensures you always have a Magma Bomb ready for selfpeel.

Rod of Tahuti is the power spike for your build. Its passive amplifies all your other items by 25%, while the added Mana feeds directly into your Book of Thoth synergy.

Obsidian Shard is mandatory for dealing with tanks. Its 35% Penetration is fully inherited by your Inferno Cannon, turning your turret into a tank-melting machine that punishes frontline enemies for ignoring it.

Soul Gem gives Vulcan the sustain he lacks while increasing his burst potential. His low-cooldown Backfire stacks the passive instantly, allowing you to constantly trigger the 40% Intelligence bonus damage on most of your abilities.

Vulcan Mods

Notes Dual Mod is the best choice for players who want maximum map control. It gives you a second turret, the Thumper, which pulses damage every second. Buying this at Level 1 allows you to dominate the lane by covering a big area at once.

Thermal Mod is the best choice for pure damage. Unlocking at Level 7, it adds 20% Intelligence scaling to your Backfire and Magma Bomb. This turns your low-cooldown abilities into heavy-hitting abilities that scale harder as the game goes on.

Surplus Mod allows you to deploy 2 Inferno Cannons simultaneously. This doubles your zone control, allowing you to lock down entire quadrants of the map by yourself.

God Aspect De-Activated

Aspect of Fortification

Vulcan's Passive gains: Being near one of your turrets grants you and the turret increased Protections and Health Regeneration. Backfire and Magma Bomb have lower Damage Scaling.

Vulcan's Skill Order Notes Max Backfire first. The reduced cooldown allows you to trigger your Passive (Movement Speed) constantly, making you impossible to catch while dealing consistent damage.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Ragna and I started playing Smite 1 on PC in 2021. I started playing in little community tournaments and after a lot of training and work I manage to play professional tournaments on Atlanta as the Smite Content Cup in 2024 and SCC on 2023 summer.

Now, in Smite 2 I have reached Deity every single split and I have competed in tournaments like Smite Vegas Qualifiers (ending in 5th position of EU) and right now Smite Prime, so Im always getting updated about the best metas on the game.

Apart from that I have a Twitch channel Ragna_smite where we play Smite 2 every single day and we do coaching for the subs to help them to improve on Smite 2, answering questions, talking about the game, etc.

Hope you find this guide as a good starting point for the midlane.

Abilities

Vulcan's Abilities

Passive - Master Craftsman

Hitting an enemy God with an ability grants you increased Movement Speed and Mana Regen. Additionally, Vulcan gains access to unique Mods in the item shop.

This passive is the engine of your playstyle; since you lack a long dash, maintaining this buff by constantly tagging enemies allows you to juke effectively and dodge incoming abilities.

Ability 1 - Backfire

Fires a projectile that deals damage and pushes you backward (Dash). The first enemy god hit is Marked.

This is your primary positioning tool and target designator. Use the recoil to space yourself away from melee attackers, while the Mark forces your Inferno Cannon to focus its fire on the god you hit rather than minions.

Ability 2 - Inferno Cannon

Deploys a turret that shoots projectiles. It inherits your Penetration stats and has an additional 25% Base Penetration.

Place this to control zones or objectives. Because it ignores a massive amount of protections, it is exceptionally good at shredding Tanks. Always try to place it where it covers your retreat path, so if they decide to chase you they will get highly poked by it.

Ability 3 - Magma Bomb

Lobs a bomb that explodes on impact, dealing damage and Knocking Up enemies away from the explosion center.

This is your setup and peel ability. Aim it slightly behind enemies to knock them into your turret range or your team. It is also your best tool for interrupting enemy channels or stopping them from chasing you.

Ultimate - Earthshaker

Launches a massive rocket that deals damage in a large radius. Damage scales based on distance traveled, dealing up to 1.65x damage at max range.

Use this to secure large objectives like the Fire Giant or to delete backline carries. Firing it at maximum range provides the highest burst damage in his kit, capable of one-shotting squishy targets if they are CC'd.

Example Combos

The Base Combo: Magma Bomb (Knockup) -> Backfire

The Self-Peel: Backfire (Dash Away) -> Magma Bomb (At your feet to knock them back)

The Aggressive Combo: Magma Bomb (Knockup) -> Earthshaker (Predict landing spot)

How to play Vulcan

Gameplay Start / Early Game
  • Push your first wave as fast as possible using your Backfire. If you bought Dual Mod at level 1, deploy the Thumper to instantly pressure the enemy under their tower.

  • Head to your side camps with your jungler to secure farm; Vulcan has high clear speed thanks to his turret.

  • Return to lane and prioritize placing your Inferno Cannon to cover the side of the lane. This prevents the enemy Jungler from blinking on you without taking damage, while you clear with Backfire.

  • At this stage, you are vulnerable if your Backfire is on cooldown; prioritize safe farming and use the recoil of your dash to retreat toward your tower if you see aggressive Junglers like Fenrir.

  • Use your Earthshaker as soon as you hit level 5. Even if you don't get a kill, landing a max-range rocket forces the enemy Mid to recall, giving you free reign to rotate or invade.

Mid Game:
  • You enter the mid-game once you have completed 3 core items, such as Book of Thoth and Spear of Desolation, which turns your poke into significant burst due to your high Intelligence scaling.

  • Maintain a high farm rate by using your Backfire to instant-clear waves, then rotate to neutral objectives. Your Inferno Cannon inherits your Penetration, making it excellent for shredding the Gold Fury.

  • Look for rotation opportunities using the massive range of Earthshaker. You can fire it over walls from the Jungle to assist your Duo lane without ever exposing yourself to the enemy support.

  • Place your Inferno Cannon in narrow choke points. Any enemy trying to walk through the jungle will be forced to take shots or stop to destroy the turret, slowing their rotation.

Late Game:

  • In the late game, Vulcan becomes one of the strongest mages in the game, capable of defending Phoenixes indefinitely or blowing up objectives with his turrets.

  • Your primary goals in teamfights are:
    • Poking enemies with Magma Bomb to knock them into your team or away from you.
    • Using Backfire constantly to maintain the 15% Movement Speed buff from your passive, making you impossible to catch.

  • Always position yourself behind walls or your Support; use Earthshaker to follow up on heavy CC (like an Ares pull or Odin cage).

  • During Fire Giant dances, use Earthshaker to secure the objective. The burst damage is higher than almost any other ability in the game, allowing you to steal it even if the enemy Jungler is present.

  • If you have reached Level 14 and bought Surplus Mod, deploy two Inferno Cannons simultaneously to lock down the entire lane.

  • When sieging Phoenixes, use your skills to poke enemies as hard as you can. A well-placed ability can disrupt their defense long enough for your team to take the structure.

  • Mastering your positioning using your Backfire and landing max-range Ultimates will distinguish you as a top-tier Vulcan Mid player.

How to ward as a Midlaner

Early/Mid Game

Here you can see the best spots to ward as a Midlaner.

These wards will help you to be safe during the first instances of the game, giving you the information about if your getting ganked from the solo or duo side.

Very Passive Situation

These wards will help you recover if you come from a bad spot i which maybe you are getting ganked a lot or invaded

Late Game

These wards are use to help your team on teamfight situations or fire gigant pulls, there are a lot of possibilities take those ones who you consider that suits the best to your game situation.

Siege / Defense Phoenix

For this situation there are only two main spots to have a ward, as you can see them rotating from one lane to the others, maybe you could even put one at lane to see if minions are approaching the phoenix but it isn't that important as knowing which lane they are going to siege.

As with that information you could be able to be on the right position before your enemies giving you a great advantage for the teamfight.

Regardless of the role, wards are the most important consumable you can buy, so don't forget to buy two wards after each back!
