Introduction

First guide, sorry if it's a bit rough. And wordy. I like wordy, lol.

IGN is ShoesSugarra, currently Gold 1. Hooked on Smite, and I bet if you're reading this you are too. If you're like me, you probably just played a match against Chaac for the first time and kept thinking to yourself "How is he STILL alive? AND at full hp? AND hurt that much! What gives?" Hopefully I can help ya out understanding my current favorite Solo lane, Chaac, the God of Rain.

Note: Still need to add ACTIVES section to items and to equipment. Still playing with them atm. Will update later. (20150405)

Pros / Cons - Why play Chaac?

Pros:

+Great Sustain
+Good Wave clear
+Great Sustain
+Great poke
+Good team fighter
+GREAT SUSTAIN

Cons:
-Long Cooldowns
-Slower than most other Solos
-Sustain can be countered by items (see Items Chapter)

Skills - What does what.

Overflow

Remember that sustain? This is the primary reason Chaac can stay in lane so long. Longer in lane equals faster tower kill (and more jungle attention, more on that later). Try to get this stacked as much as possible, then use the free spell to poke or heal as needed!

Thunder Strike

Chaac's poke, escape, sustain, kite, clear, and damage all hinge on this ability. Landing on minions is easy. Will take CHUNKS of HP off of most Solo gods, and will clear minions quickly. Aim carefully after minions meet and it will hit the entire wave. On gods, long range shots are normally a waste (unless they're dead center, then they normally get hit). However, get right on top of an enemy god and throw it at your feet. Works wonders.

Note: WATCH YOUR FEET! Once thrown, a small circle around Chaac's feet begins draining. The Axe stays in place for 5 sec, but if you don't want to count that out (who does, right?), just watch the circle. When it's gone, axe is gone too.

Torrent

The ability that gets the most hate is actually pretty fun to use, but easy to misuse. The port to your axe is great, but the damage loss is normally not worth the initiation. And don't use it as a general in-lane escape, Thunder Strike flies too slow for it to help. Generally, use this to finish off low minions and get stacks of the protections for poke trades.

A fun trick when being chased is to use Thunder Strike into the jungle, but keep running down the lane. If they chase you, use Torrent and go through the jungle. If they chase the axe (expecting the port), don't and keep running.

Rain Dance

The other half of Chaac sustain. The heal is powerful, the slow is incredible, and used properly with Overflow they will keep you in lane and alive for a LONG time. Use it to chase or escape, as it heals ONLY Chaac and slows enemy goods.

Note: Many players mistakenly believe Rain Dance hurts, or just habitually try not stand in stuff. Use this with Thunder Strike to block jungle routes, or slow enemies chasing/running away.

Storm Call

Without Thunder Strike, this is a mediocre ultimate. Decent damage with a 3s silence.
However, with Thunder Strike, the damage is powerful and it causes a knock up. 9/10 of the time you will use this with Thunder Strike. Late game, if you've properly put the fear of your ult into the enemy team, you can use it to scare them away (or bait a team fight).

Note: Chaac is not damage immune during the ult, and he can move while in the air. DO SO! Thunder Strike is consumed at the cast, not at the crash, so move and get the most out of your ult.

Items - Why this? Why not?

BEWARE

Start

Bluestone Pendant Hand of the Gods and Boots are a standard start for Chaac, with two (2) Healing Potion to help you keep your health up. All will help you clear fast, stay in lane, and avoid/chase effectively. This is my start no matter my opponent for the time being.

Core

Chaac, as a Warrior, gains alot of protections as he levels naturally, making Runeforged Hammer a high-damage item that also provides health and even more protection. Get this right after you finish your Warrior Tabi unless the enemy team is 4+ Magical Gods. Then rush Stone of Gaia. Jotun's Wrath helps mitigate Chaac's long cooldowns while providing Penetration and Protection. You'll find yourself building these three first in almost every game.

Fed

If you are up a kill or two against a physical damage opponent, Shield of Regrowth will keep you ahead. It's a semi-cheap item to build, gives more cooldown, and a passive that makes Rain Dance the ultimate chase/escape tool, slowing your enemies while giving you almost the equivalent of a Sprint, but with almost as short a cooldown as your Rain Dance. If you keep the slaughter going, Qin's Sais will dominate anyone, while Mystical Mail makes sticking to them with the Rain Dance Shield of Regrowth combo even more devastating.

Behind

It happens. Kill happy jungler feed your lane, you're just having an off day, whatever. The priorities remain the same: Stay alive, stay in lane. Call for help as you need it, and build to stay alive. Midgardian Mail provides a ton of damage to Runic Hammer while giving you a great passive to help you escape and the protections to survive bursts. Shield of Regrowth gives a Sprint to Rain Dance. If you're still having issues, build Winged Blade. Hopefully you never need it.

Magic

Magic Damage focused enemies counter Runic Hammer. Build Stone of Gaia to have ridiculous sustain and reduce most damage to nothing (unless they build alot of pen). For most games, this should be enough along with your normal build to keep you alive. If you are still having issues (taking ALOT of damage I.E. a good Chan'ge or Ra), build Spirit Robe.

Play Style - What to do.

In Lane: Use Thunder Strike for wave clear, with basic attacks to build Overflow and Rain Dance to heal any damage taken. If your opponent positions badly, hit them with Thunder Strike as well, but make sure to hit the archer minions with them! Unless you are committing to the kill, prioritize minions over hurting your opponent. You are going to out sustain them. Use it. Start getting wards on your first back to base to prevent needless deaths or damage from jungle ganks or mid rotations, as your pressure and sustain will attract attention from both. If they come, fall back to your tower. Priorities are simple: Stay alive, then try to stay in lane.

Leaving Lane: Pushing your opponent back before you opens opportunities. Early game, rotating mid (if they even or pushed to their tower) can help, but be careful! Do not lose too much minion experience and fall behind chasing a kill. These early rotations are great times for a Thunder Strike- Torrent- Rain Dance combo, jumping onto the opponent, damaging them, and slowing them for your attacks or help from your mid. Beyond level 7 or so, pressing tower damage will be more beneficial, as your team will benefit greatly from a tower kill. After getting your first tower, remember to return and push your lane again whenever you can, locking at least one member of the enemy team into that lane while you wander and help your team.

Team Fights: Body block for the team as much as you can late game, you can take the punishment and heal it back quickly if you built right. Poke with Thunderstrike, and pay attention to its location at all times. Jump in with Torrent and Rain Dance to engage, then Thunder Strike off cooldown and Storm Call to end the fight. The knock up will lock down the kills if winning, or delay the enemy for escapes if losing.

Summary

Play safe, play smart, and WARD.

Chaac is God in solo lane. Keep chanting to yourself.

Stay alive. Stay in lane.
All will fear the rain.
All will bow to Chaac

Credits and Changes

Big thanks to TormentedTurnip (please message me with how to link to ya, couldn't find it) and his guide on Guidecrafting. Made this entirely because I didn't feel there was a decent Chaac conquest guide out for my play style, and saw that guide right after I realized it! Big thanks to any and all contributors to his guide as well.
