Rangda mask 500 gold feel free to build rangda's mask on ares because 10% movement + 10% cooldown is exactly what ares needs and 500 gold is super cheap for the huge pay off ares will receive.
Ares is a horrible guardian to front line with are has no disrupting Crowd control and no escape ability are will die all the [email protected]#ken time out in front in a team fight he just a bad front line god.
Theres is a way to have a huge impact in a conquest game with Ares if your consider Ares not as a standard guardian but as an assassin a bulky assassin like bulk build fenrir!
whats a bulky assassin need to do?
Ares can play from the jungle and attack an enemies back line with unbelievable force ideally if ares can attack from the jungle use chains and cripples from behind when enemies are unaware then ult and sprint relic to escape all CC and head back towards your own team.
Ares can chain or combo down any one god without defensive items play a support role but pretend ares is an assassin in that support role and you will do exceptional
Ares needs to do damage just to keep up in levels as ares struggles to level in conquest so in conquest building bulk without power on Ares is the absolute worst thing to do.
Ares needs power to kill minions,camps,ect that is to level up at the same rate as everyone else and minions are immune to penetration items but penetration items are necessary for killing gods quickly as Ares. (You just can't win Ares needs everything)
Building- Sands of time, shoes of focus, spear of desolation is an awesome start Ares can kill jungler's and gods to protect the ADC but Ares will be frail.
Hide of the urchin- Ares will get kills and assists so building hide of the urchin is a great idea
Aura's- any aura are a good idea
Starter items- there are times were starter items are a necessary other times there just a waste of gold and slow down your bulid.
Ares stone of gaia or jade emperors crown are great in solo. Ares can also be good in duo. Ares 1 shackles hits as hard as some ultimate attacks ares 1 hits at 840 magical damage and 120% scaling.
e.g chain 1. 2 ticks of 105(15%),105(15%)=210(30%) chain 2. 2 ticks 420(60%) chain 3 is the big damage with 4 ticks and doubling damage bringing the total damage of ares 1 ability to 840(120%) if fired slowly. or a minimum of 4 ticks 420(60%)per individual enemy chained.
Ares is an extremist he really struggles when he is behind but Ares really thrives when he is ahead
ares is not the support that runs around burning enemy abilities ares support works better with damage. Well i think it does anyway if you want to run around forcing cooldowns use someone better for it like geb.
ares CC with gem of isolation supports the team with a 8 second slow that may as well be a stun.
Searing flesh: Can take at least 25% hp from bulky opponents
bolster defences can almost double more frail allies defences. with items totals to +70/60-91/81 protections. also buffs minions and the titan. and adds a 30% CC reduction to ally gods
CC ultimate that can nuke teams in a team fight.
Supporting allies by stopping fleeing enemies attempting to escape
ares support is capable of carry a team to victory if played well
are support most importantly. Should actively seek out and kill assassins and hunters in teamfights to stop teamates from dieing because ares is often times the most capable of deterring or killing them on your team by using bolster defence and slows such as shackles and curse and his ultimate attack for example huntdown gods like loki and neith.
bolster defence: I think this is not designed to make ares super tanky but to make up for the lack of bulk by adding just enough 40 on his protections and allies
Offensive hunters have around 40/60 protections at level 20 so it almost doubles there protections

Ares cool down builds are ok but even with max cooldown ares will still have to wait a really long time to use his ability thats why 20/40 cooldown is usually the most i use if i use any cooldown at all. to justify why i don't bother with cooldown is that on ares to use a cooldown build you have to sacrifice power and power from passive items making ares 1 ability shackles get less use from his 120% scaling now this matters because most hyper offense hunters,assassins and mage will be completely killed by an ares 1,3 combo early and late game.
ares plays like a hit and run god when the carry kills most of the minions get in fire a chain at a gods get back behind your minions/carry and try to keep health as high as possible for when/if they decide to pursue ares or if they initiate a fight then be ready to body block for the carry now idealy ares wants to start of in a lane helping with chip damage and not initiating a fight until there hunter/carry has less then 70% health then go for the jugular and kill the carry with ares shackles/flamthrower combo that slow and prevent most escapes but in order to kill ares needs to prioritise power in his builds also always try to shackles/ult as many opponents as possible(power fist bulk second)
hazards:Hazards for ares are stuns or hard CC that often times cut ares 1,3 combo damage down to nothing.
I often have trouble with gods like kumbhakarna,bacchus,athena,cabrakan,yimir if you find yourself against these gods best build reinforced boots first and for khepri or ares build mark of the vangaurd and for skardi you may need a winged sword for skardi to get close or to run because of the slows. ares can manhandle most hunters or assassins but be careful of mages and any chip damage.
