Introduction

*Open for discussion and specific advice based on my own experience

Anubis is the first real god I played consistently to learn the game.
I struggled when I started with others (I was on the console at the start) and it can be demoralizing to die or not feel like you are doing enough damage.

Well if you can master *JUST* the grab and stick by Anubis, I think he is a good stepping stone for other gods.
Few gods can make you feel like Anubis early on in your SMITE career as he can...

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Skills

Mummify (GRAB)/GENERAL:
Anubis' Grab is by far his most important move as Anubis does not have much movement (Also hence why I use blink), Locus and his ULT lock him in place so if you don't read the game right in can go very bad for you.

GRASPING HANDS:
The Poke and main follow up to the grab, you will get many kills from idiots not moving off of it.

LOCUS:
this roots you in place, follow up from grasping hands with this or to dispense of the minions/ jungle minions. (Great for lifesteal)

ULT:
This goes through walls and enemies (does less damage I believe to enemies behind the first one) and will destroy squishys - use: MUMMIFY,GRASPING, ULT then think about whether you need Locus or not.

Pros & Cons

PROS:
+ Can snowball typically at lower ranks and levels.
+ Obviously very high lifesteal
+ LASER BEAM OF DEATTH
+ Combos well with blink to feel like a death machine
+ Fun and EASY to learn

CONS:
- Squishy-ish has ever so slightly mitigations
- Locus and ULT lock you in place
- Higher skill levels WILL counter you/ sometimes target you out of hatred.

Ranked Play

Typically Anubis is placed in either B or B+.
I personally think it might be a tad harsh and should be B+ to A, but, there is a reason.
Anubis at higher levels can be countered more easily or there are some gods, take for example Scylla my second God I got comfortable with, who just *feel* like they give/do more.
Still, if your team is considerate of Anubis, and you get a solid start, you maybe able to push your team to victory.
Sometimes it does feel like Anubis' damage at Lvl 20 isn't the same as it was a few Lvls ago.

Also if anyone has any comments on the threats or at least some small thing to add for other threats that they think is important for a newer player that I've overlooked, please comment

Odin and Osiris are high level threats with their ultimates completely disabling you.

Sorry, Conneur, but I can't endorse any guide that suggests meditation cloak for any mode outside of Assault. If you remove all mention of it and address Kriega's and Bran's feedback, I'll change my vote. This isn't a bad guide, but med cloak is an instant down-vote from me.

I would like to emphasize - for New players - not familiar to the genre.
When was the last time you played with a set of completely new players to the game and genre. Because my group has had a few that get demoralized quickly if they aren't doing well.
Med cloak is nice to feel that they are least not solely being a feed machine
I think -med- helps for fun tbh...

but all that said.. *that section* really is just for brand new - I would agree they should move off it ASAP

I actually teach them to get Aegis Amulet Purification Beads or if they really need a tad bit more HP Magic Shell depending on what is their biggest flaw. If they really struggle with mana or HP I get them in the habit of using pots/chalices and managing their mana well.

This goes even when I was teaching one of my friends that wanted to get into mobas via either LoL or DotA

Kriega1 (143) | September 6, 2020 4:02pm
Why are you teaching new players to build meditation and blink as standard on Anubis? Beads and Aegis should be the standard. For Solo teleport is fine but you should generally be picking up beads second. Blink outside of playing him Jungle is incredibly cheesy / risky.

And why is Deso being built over Magus.... and Chronos Pendant being listed as core? Yeah, no.

Building Pestilence / Contagion on Anubis is a big fat meme. Only serious defense options you should be considering generally are Mantle, Magi’s Cloak and maybe Spirit Robe.

OKAY SO...
1. As sad elsewhere... I have made a personal mistake of placing too much importance on Chronos and okay spear of Magus is probably more likely than Deso 6/10 times SO I have changed it in my serious solo Build.
2.PESTILENCE/CONTAGION - did you not read the notes? I said you will pretty much never get those unless a very rare circumstance.
HOWEVER - I realise I did not put situational defence, so thank you.

3. Med/Blink
I get you, but im not teaching. It is not a "learn it this way" more of an if you are struggling in the game just put it on.
Blink is just because I know it is FUN.
still I get your point

Chronos definitely shouldn't be prioritized 4th. You can consider it as a late-game shoes replacement, but your middle slots should look to enhanced damage from pen.

You CAN get Spear of Desolation in that 4th slot, but you should also consider Divine Ruin if you need anti-heal, or Spear of the Magus in general for the group enhanced damage potential. Any of those are good in that 4th slot.

5th slot should probably then be more % pen...Typhon's isn't enough. Obsidian Shard, Charon's Coin, or Soul Reaver are all viable % pen items, and you might consider Reaver + either Ob or Charon's.

Your late-game options would be Chronos or Tahuti, though you can also get the prot items that Kriega mentioned above.

Sorry I must not have properly checked this guide sorry.
Shortly after posting, I realized I have placed too much importance on CHRONOS in my own gameplay.
Will change,
I will add spear of Deso was purely in the build, like Blink, for its FUN benefit.
Really appreciate your comments
