Base Build

Notes Very basic build you can run every game and do well. Sometimes Divine Ruin is built earlier (like you're vs. an Anubis, Hel, etc.), sometimes it is replaced for another situational item.

If you want to STACK you can replace Divine Ruin with Charon's Coin

If you want DEFENSE you can replace Divine Ruin with Mantle of Discord or Spirit Robe. If you want extra survivability you can get Warlock's Staff as well. Talk more about this in the tankier build.

Tankier Build

Notes You can also get Pendulum of Ages instead of Gem of Focus for 40% CDR.

The downside to this build vs. the base build is that you will not have as much mana sustain early as someone building Conduit Gem + Lost Artifact; you also won't have the early cooldowns of someone going Chronos' Pendant first item, and if you go Sands of Time in place of Conduit Gem early, you won't have as much early pressure/clear.

Keep in mind you could always just go the regular base build and replace Divine Ruin for Mantle of Discord or Spirit Robe instead of getting a Warlock's Staff. The only reason I'm even suggesting it is because of Baba's passive.

Soul Reaver isn't technically % pen but I'm adding it anyways. Its Qin's Sais for magical abilities.

Pros + Cons

PROS
Built-in stacking + healing via Creeping Cabin
Her Wild Witchcraft is decently hard to predict and accurately dodge.
She has a lot of soft CC, and the silence in her Wild Witchcraft goes crazy.
Good AOE damage and self peel with her ultimate, Home Sweet Home, which knocks back enemies that are too close.

CONS
Her escape, Blast Off! has a long casting time and can easily be interrupted + canceled.
Her early clear and pressure is a little bad...
She has no hard CC like stuns, roots, etc. The most she can do alone is silence with her Wild Witchcraft or knock enemies back with her Home Sweet Home.
Her abilities are still a LITTLE clunky and potion management gets irritating.

Abilities

You should read Baba Yaga's abilities in detail either through Smite or here: https://smite.fandom.com/wiki/Baba_Yaga

Baba Yaga's Cabin accumulates up to 100 essence over time, when it moves, and if enemy gods get too close. Baba Yaga can approach the Cabin and use this essence to gain evolving item stacks. Items with a low stack count take more energy. If Baba Yaga has no stacking item this essence heals Baba Yaga for 0.8% max health per tick.

Item Stack Cost: [400 / Item Max Stacks] essence

Heal Cost: 4 essence

Updated for 8.9+

UPDATED FOR 8.9: CHANGES YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BABA YAGA :]
Read the entire patch here: https://www.smitegame.com/news/cleanliness-vs-godliness-8-9-update-notes/

Direct Baba Yaga changes:
- Fixed an issue where you sometimes couldn’t aim at point-blank range during her ultimate

Indirect Baba Yaga changes:

- NERF: Vampiric Shroud
- Decreased Physical Protection from 15 to 10

- BUFF: Mace Tree Items
- The maces are really cheap and hit really hard now. Junglers HURT and mid laners are getting lowkey camped.

What this means for Baba Yaga:
Right now, I only ever really see people going the base build listed above with some exceptions (replacing Divine Ruin with other items). Vampiric Shroud is never really seen in midlane anymore, and Sands of Time is seen a lot less.

UPDATED FOR 8.9 BONUS PATCH: CHANGES YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BABA YAGA :]
Read the entire patch here: https://www.smitegame.com/news/8-9-bonus-update-notes-live-october-5/

No direct changes to Baba Yaga.

Indirect Baba Yaga changes:

- NERF: Vampiric Shroud
- Decreased Physical Protection from 10 to 5

What this means for Baba Yaga: Yeah... they really don't want Vampiric Shroud built anymore...

It's absolutely not a dumb question, and it's something that people continue to consider, due to her added ease of stacking.

That said, I think most people opt NOT to pick up Book of Thoth for Baba Yaga. I think the only god that continues to use Thoth as a core item is Kukulkan. Keep in mind, it's an item you get for 2 things: magical power and mana. As you move toward late-game, you typically get a variety of items that provide either mana or MP5, and depending on your starter of choice (if you pick one up), you might not have many mana issues even early game. You're then left with just high power.

While the power is nice, this item costs a decent amount, and other items provide other utility features or penetration. I think at this point, you're better off considering other items. For stacking, both Charon's Coin and Warlock's Staff are options. Otherwise, you can just go for a more standard mage build, like the one proposed here. You could consider an adjustment to the build order though, e.g. getting Charon's Coin first, changing starter (consider Conduit Gem into Gem of Focus), etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the build! What would you build in arena, more CDR?

Divine Ruin is also a good early pickup even in arena due to its base stats; the anti-heal is just a bonus.
