DECAY (Dark Stance) - Hel fires an orb of decay that deals damage and passes through minions. The orb will explode in a 12 unit radius if it hits a god or reaches max range.

RESTORATION (Light Stance) - Hel fires an orb of restoration that damages enemy minions and stops on gods. Hitting an enemy god deals damage. Hitting an allied god provides that god and Hel Health and Mana.

This heal is half as effective when healing minions. Hel gains Increased Movement Speed, and allies gain a reduced amount (7%) for the duration. Hel and allies also gain 20% Attack Speed while the buff is active.

Skill Breakdown

Stance Attunement (PASSIVE)

Light Stance: An impressive mana HOT.

Dark Stance: A slight boost to magic power, increasing all damage slightly.

Decay / Restoration

Light Stance: A ranged damage spell, but more importantly, heals yourself when it hits an enemy, for those clutch moments when you need a little extra self healing.

Dark Stance: A ranged damage spell that does the same amount of damage as light stance, except that it has an AOE effect when hitting an enemy.

Hinder / Cleanse

Light Stance: CC clearer and CC immunity buff on everyone at a ground target.

Dark Stance: An invaluable ground target slow with a huge radius.

Repulse / Inspire

Light Stance: An amazing AOE heal where the ground target is yourself

Dark Stance: A high burst AOE damage spell where the ground target is yourself

Switch Stances

Hel has no traditional ultimate. Instead, she can switch stances on the fly, at no cost of mana, giving her a grand total of 6 abilities, instead of the typical 4.

Tips!

Hel has a really high learn curve. One of the highest. Play several games with her before you throw in the towel.

Hel is stupid mana hungry and probably the most mana hungry god in Smite. Because of this, I usually stick to just healing for the first 3 or so items. Try to always have a mana camp buff on you. Hel should ALWAYS get the mana buff. Be selfish about it.

Use cleanse preemptively! Because cleanse (second ability) provides a CC immunity buff, use it when you sense incoming CC, not just after someone is already CC'ed. This is a great tactic when you're fully decked out and going on the offensive. A lot of people open up with CC, especially warriors. Starting a 1-on-1 fight while cleansed is a great way to throw off the opponent.

Use your heal for the speed buff too! Hel's heal provides a very nice AOE speed buff. It affects minions! Hax!

Build Summary

A chief criticism of Hel is that she's very squishy. Not so much with this build. You'll end up with 190 physical protection and 100 magic protection. And shockingly.... you'll still have crazy damage! What the hel?! I often end a match being one of the players with the highest player damage, as well as highest damage mitigation, and godly amounts of healing.

This build works. Give it a shot!

if you don't get something with good mp5, or manapool increase, than those mana issues will haunt you until pretty much late game
I usually manage with Chronos Pendant instead of Breastplate of Valor; and Lotus Crown instead of Celestial Legion Helm.
Though most people would probably recommend something that goes for manapool instead of mp5, like warlock's sash or book of toth.

mmy build usually has the following items:
-cdr boots
-rod of asclepius
-chronos pendant/breastplate of valor (depending on the opponent having a fed phisical)
-lotus crown
(so far that's my core build, for healing advantages and support role, since I hate conquet and don't like siege that much either, so I don't have to sololane, I just have to keep people alive, and demolish the opponents. for this, the best methods are cdr, mp5, and obviously asclepious's heal boost. Lotus Crown is pretty much something one can't skip on her, it'd go well beside celestial legion helm as well if need be, since that item has a passive for self survival anyway.)

and for the last 2 slots I usually go with rod of tahuti and bulwark of hope, not necessarily in this order.

I could see Book of Thoth increasing her early game offensive potential for sure.

And I might prefer the warlock's sash over the Book of Thoth for a build like this, but yeah.. it just takes so long to build.

I really recommend Book of Thoth on her, as you said, she is verrrryyyyyy Mana hungry

Since she doesn't have an escape, if she's going to have one stacking item, perhaps Warlock's Sash is the better choice for her...both mana and health.

Bran the problem with that is that warlock's sash takes a long time to get online, and it makes Hel's early game... well a living hell. Book of Thoth's benefits kick in a lot faster and the extra mana sustain allows you to heal a lot more often, giving you more effective health at any given time.
