Hi Mantu,

Most of this build looks fine, but I would recommend switching out Soul Gem. That's not really an item that is needed, especially when 1) he's got his own healing capabilities and 2) you're lacking in % pen.

You should be considering Obsidian Shard or Charon's Coin for higher % pen. If you don't really like those options, I guess you could consider Staff of Myrddin if you want the CDR Soul Gem provided, as it at least has some % pen.

Thank you for the tip. I'll be replacing it with the Staff of Myriddin because I find the CDR important.
Would replacing Divine Ruin with Obsidian Shard be a good idea? It maxes the %Pen to 40 but it's passive adds %20 more magic pen which wouldn't do anything since it's capped out.

Hi Mantu,

So a couple additional thoughts:
  • Sands of Time + Spear of Desolation = 20% CDR, which is fine for early/mid game. While Myrddin adds another 10%, you'll eventually also get to 40% when you upgrade Sands to Pendulum of Ages. Now, 40% is never truly bad, but you also don't necessarily NEED it. Remember that unless you're spamming abilities on CD, higher CDR isn't fully effective, it just gives you the capability to cast more quickly, it's up to you to actually make it worth it. You could consider The Alternate Timeline and grab Potion of Power to hit max CDR. It's an option to think about at least.

  • Staff of Myrddin is a bit awkward for Ra because a lot of his ult use is typically from range, making it sometimes difficult to follow up with its passive boost with regular abilities. That said, the stats are very well-rounded and I like the item.

  • Divine Ruin 2nd is fine, and while I always say anti-heal is situational, you almost always encounter healing and lifesteal. If you don't need the anti-heal that early, you might switch the build order and grab Deso first.

But in the actual case you really don't need Divine, you should have an item or two as backup alternatives to slot in. You might even make a decision early not to get Divine, and if so, you might grab Book of Thoth as your first item. While you sometimes avoid stacking items in Joust, as Ra, you're going to be the obvious wave-clearer so this shouldn't be a problem.

Keep in mind that Ra is also not the best user of Divine. His 1 can be easy to dodge at longer range, his 2 is an AOE close to him, and while the 3 can be plopped on an enemy from range, that's usually not the best use of the ability.

  • Calamitous Rod of Tahuti isn't the upgrade I would go for with Ra. I would grab Perfected Rod of Tahuti. Calamitous is better for gods that have some CC and can lock down the enemy to confirm a Calamitous meteor hit.

  • So it's not described, but the passive 20% pen boost from Ob Shard actually allows you to exceed the 40% cap. You can reach 60%, which can be great if the passive is available and you're sniping with your ult.
