Introduction

Hello and welcome to my first ever build bla bla bla yada yada yada... lets get started.
Guan Yu is a physical melee Warrior with high mobility and a good team heal. With this build, you play as an off-tank/bruiser. The focus of this build is to build yourself a high amount of HP, in addition to massive healing and regneration thanks to Conviction, Stone of Gaia and Shield of Regrowth. All of these items give you immense sustain including a portion of MP5, which brings me to this. You are NOT AN EARLY GAME GOD. You are not Arachne, nor Bastet. You are more of a Chornos in the sense that you are a late game champion. Although you can take down half of the enemy's health in the beginning with Taolu Assault full hits, do not rush, be careful. Your early game is bad and you are mana hungry as hell (and hel). Play safe in the beginning, and try to get the blue buff. You can pass Hand of the Gods if you are duo laninig wit ha good wave clearer (Neith for example). When solo it's a must.
The idea of this build, once you start getting the core items, is to harass the enemy, and get in there and make their life miserable as they can't kill you while you spong all the damage for your team and get it back yourself.
I like to describe this build as H-P-5 - Health,Protection-Physical-Power-Penetration and HP5.

Pros / Cons

Pros

-High Health
-Immense Sustain & Team Heal
-Good Crowd Control and Moblity with Warrior's Will and Cavalry Charge
-High Defense
-Good Damage Output
-Good Late Game
-Good Initiator

Cons

-Squishy and Weak Early Game
-If enemies use Pestilence/Brawler's Beat Stick/Divine Ruin you are gonna have a hard time.
-Vulnerable to CC especially early on
-Wave clear isn't strong early game

Items

Starting with Stone of Gaia for the HP5&MP5, plus the Magical Protection is nice if you lane against a magical. Meditation rank 1 and Hand of the Gods rank 1 for the mana hungriness of yours and the wave clear.

Stone of Gaia
This item is the core of this build and represents the general ideea. Upon tier 3, it gives you massive magical protection and HP5 + some MP5 and the passive on it is like a glove to a hand. 2% of your max health every 5 seconds. At level 20 max build you have 3000 health, that's 60 haelth per 5 seconds excluding your HP5.

Warrior Tabi
pretty elementary, mainly here for the penetration.

Mystical Mark
Lots of health, Physical Protection and an aura passive to damage enemies close to you every 1 second for 40 magical damage.

Shield of Regrowth
At tier 3, coupled with Stone of Gaia tier 3, and when the passive is active, you get 100 HP5. In addition you get magical protection and physical power. Enough said.

Voidblade
Go Voidblade and not Focused Voidblade because you will be up in the enemies' face so the aura is good, unless you don't have a damage carry/assasin. A pretty elemntary item for Warriors.

Ankh
Either Ankh of the Bear or Ankh of the Golem, doesn't really matter, which ever you prefer, more health or more physical protection. The bonus Physical Power is the same (around 30).

Use Pestilence and/or Brawler's Beat Stick instead of Voidblade if the enemies have heavy healers (Hel, Chang'e, Guan Yu, Ra etc.)

Viable Actives

Apart from Hand of the Gods and Meditation, which are mainly necessary for Conquest, you can go off without them (though I wouldn't recommend). There are some good Active items that could really help you in securing a kill or an assist or escaping.

Creeping Curse
This is really good for slowing down enemies to chase them or to escape if your Ult or your 2 can't do the job as well as they should. Additionaly, coupled with Mystical Mark the results could be devastating as you keep enemies near you and letting the aura damage them hard.

Aegis Amulet
Can't go wrong with Aegis. Immunity to damage for a couple of seconds can save your life no doubt. Isn't so useful though because you are pretty tanky and have massive regeneration, but if you wanna go safe, by all means, take it.

Purification Beads
Much like Aegis, can't go wrong with beads, but as you are pretty much unkillable now, it's an overkill.

Fist of the Gods
Not my cup of tea, but can hel secure a kill.

Skills

Passive:Painless

Guan Yu gains force of will as he takes damage. Each instance of damage he receives charges up his Conviction ability, increasing its healing by up to 2x after 20 hits. In addition your basic attacks ultize in a chain of 1/1/1.25/1.75 x damage and swing time.

*Unlike most god with healing abilities, yours doesn't scale according to your Physical Power, but by the amount of hits you take. 20 hits = 2x healing.

Conviction

Guan Yus courageous leadership is infectious and, when focused, heals himself and his allies by 50/80/110/140/170 and increases physical protections by 10/15/20/25/30 for 3s. Healing friendly gods reduces all cooldowns by 2s.
Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 mana.
Cooldown: 14 seconds.

*Because of your passive, try and save it until you get the full 20 hits buff (you'll see the passive's icon head thingy covered with a bandage and bleeding heavily) but don't spare it if you are being chased. This is also a good source for Physical Protection, so before you charge in a fight, buff yourself with a heal and try to get it on an ally as well so the cooldwon would be reduced by 2 seconds. Try and get hit by minions late game for the heal buff.

Warrior's Will

Guan Yu charges forward, his Green Dragon Crescent Blade extended in front of him. All enemies in his path take 80/135/190/245/300 (+50% of your physical power) damage and are slowed by 20% for 2s. Hitting enemy gods lowers all of Guan Yus cooldowns by 2s.
Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 mana.
Cooldown: 14 seconds.

*When you attack an enemy, do not, i repeat, DO NOT start with this ability. Go with your Taolu Assault (3) instead because enemies might escape with their dash/jump/ whatever and so you need to save your chase ability, which also slows the target down. This is also a great escaping ability. Like Conviction but the opposite, try to hit enemy gods to reduce all cooldown by 2 seconds.

Taolu Assault

Guan Yu spins his blade in a controlled but furious display, slicing enemies for 15/25/35/45/55 (+20% of your physical power) damage every .3s for 3s. Each hit debuffs the enemies protections by 6/7/8/9/10 while buffing Guan Yu the same amount for 3s. Guan Yu is immune to knockback for the duration.
Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana.
Cooldown: 15 seconds.

* This is your signature hit and your main damage. You steal 30 protections, both magical and physical from your enemy when you get successful hits on them. This and Conviction are the reasons you don't need a full tank build to not give a f*** about being hit by enemies. Remember that smart enemies who have a CC ability other than a knock-back will use the ability upon you when you start attacking, so be sure that they have used it already.

Cavalry Charge

Guan Yu mounts his warhorse and charges for 4s. While mounted, he can steer and click to attack and is immune to crowd control. Enemies hit take 75/100/125/150/175 (+30% of your physical power) damage and are slowed by 25% for 2s. Each hit increases damage from consecutive hits against that target by 20%. Enemies hit on the dismount are stunned for 1.5s. Right-click to dismount early.
Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 mana.
Cooldown: 90 seconds.

This is a great intiating abilty, a wide CC ability and, when used right, does insane damage. All you need to do is hit the same enemy/enemies 4 times in a row on your horse of crazy speed and they get 20% extra damage per hit from your horseswordswings. Coupled with Ares/Hades/Odin Ultimate, it's devastatingly easy to get triples. Also this is one of the best tower diving abilities, as well as a great escape. Don't be cheap on your ult, not with any god, especially not with Guan.

To initiate a gank/attack upon a single enemy, start with your 1 if the enemy is physical, if not dont' waste it, get close to the enemy and make sure they have their CC down, initiate with your 3, chase them with your 2 and follow/auto attack them (depenes on the situation because sometimes it's better just to follow the enemy because of your Mystical Mark which will do damage to the mif they are close to you) and repeat. Use your Ult whenever you think you need to.
In team fights, start with your 1 and try to get as many allies in it as you can, initiate with your ult, upon dismount attack with your 3 and slow/chase with your 2.

Team Work

Getting an ally healer is not an overkill (nor overheal :). It makes you invincible, literaly. When you team up with an ally healer, and when they get Rod of Asclepius you can't die.
Good healer team ups:
Chang'e
Hel
Aphrodite
Ra

And even if you don't have a mgae, just having someone with Rod of Asclepius is huge. I'm still waiting on that item to come in a physical version.

Summary

Guan Yu is a god that when played right, mid-late game is a pin in the butt and can sponge as much damage as the enemies can deliver while healing himself and his allies and damaging enemies significantly. Be careful with your early game and it will pay off. I recommend duo lane just because your wave clear isn't so good early game, unless solo is a melee god.
When you feel like you are tanky enough, get in their face, sponge the damage and watch the assists and kills go into the sky.

Thank you and please leave your feedback, positive or negative, it really helps me a lot.
