Notes Pendulum of Ages provides massive Mana regeneration and Cooldown Rate, allowing you to constantly throw out Chain Lightning your most powerful ability. Appart from that its passive converts your Mana pool into extra Intelligence, ensuring your damage scales heavily as you build more items.

Spear of Desolation is a team-fight essential. Zeus excels at hitting multiple enemies at once with Lightning Storm, meaning you will rack up assists easily. This item's passive reduces your cooldowns whenever you get a kill or assist, allowing you to have Detonate Charge ready again much faster to finish off surviving enemies.

Book of Thoth passive converts your Mana into extra Power, which synergizes perfectly with Pendulum of Ages to give you an enormous amount of Intelligence. This ensures your Detonate Charge hits hard enough to delete squishy targets instantly once fully stacked.

Blinking Abyss solves Zeus's biggest weakness: his lack of mobility. Since he has no dash or leap, this item gives you a teleport to escape Assassins or close the gap. The passive also deals damage upon arrival, allowing you to blink in aggressively and burst a target before they can react.

Rod of Tahuti is your primary damage spike for the late game as this item increases your total Intelligence by 25%.

Obsidian Shard is necessary to shred through tanky enemies. As the match progresses, Warriors and Guardians will build defenses to stop you. This item grants 35% Penetration, which would make tanks abe much weaker.

Gem of Focus provides vital utility through Movement Speed. Since Zeus is immobile, the "Momentum" stacks gained from spamming your abilities give you a significant speed boost, allowing you to juke enemies more effectively.

Zeus's Skill Order Notes You should prioritize maxing Detonate Charge first, as it is your primary kill mechanism and deals massive burst damage to enemies with max charges. Next, focus on Chain Lightning to improve your wave clear and long-range poke capability. Always put a point into your ultimate, Lightning Storm, whenever it is available . Finally, upgrade Thunderclap last, as the utility of the movement speed and attack speed buffs is effective enough with just one point in the early game.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Ragna and I started playing Smite 1 on PC in 2021. I started playing in little community tournaments and after a lot of training and work I manage to play professional tournaments on Atlanta as the Smite Content Cup in 2024 and SCC during 2023.

Now, in Smite 2 I have reached Deity every single split and I have competed in tournaments like Smite Vegas Qualifiers (ending in 5th position of EU) and right now Smite Prime, so Im always getting updated about the best metas on the game.

Apart from that I have a Twitch channel Ragna_smite where we play Smite 2 every single day and we do coaching for the subs to help them to improve on Smite 2, answering questions, talking about the game, etc.

Hope you find this guide as a good starting point for the midlane and to improve your skills with Zeus.

Here are my socials:

Abilities

Zeus's Abilities

Passive - Overcharge

Every time you deal damage to an enemy with Basic Attacks or Abilities, you apply a Charge. You can stack up to 3 Charges on a target. Each Charge increases the damage they take from your Basic Attacks.

This passive is the core of your kit. Your goal is always to apply 3 Charges to an enemy as quickly as possible. Once they are fully stacked, they take massive damage from your abilities, especially your Detonate.

Ability 1 - Chain Lightning

Zeus fires a bolt of lightning that arcs between nearby enemies, dealing damage and applying a Slow. It bounces up to 6 times.

This is your main tool for spreading Charges. Since it bounces, you don't always need to aim directly at the enemy god; you can shoot a minion next to them, and the lightning will bounce to the god automatically. Use this to clear waves and poke enemies simultaneously.

Ability 2 - Thunderclap

Zeus calls down lightning around himself, damaging nearby enemies. He gains increased Movement Speed, Attack Speed, and Haste (no movement penalty while attacking).

This ability is your only mobility tool. Use the Movement Speed to rotate faster or to chase down enemies. The Haste effect is incredibly powerful because it lets you run at enemies while holding down your Basic Attack button to stack Charges without slowing down.

Ability 3 - Detonate Charge

Zeus detonates the Charges on all enemies, dealing Magical Damage. If an enemy has 3 Charges, they are Stunned.

This is your Kill Button so never use this randomly. Always try to wait until the target has 3 Charges floating around them. The 3-stack detonation deals significantly more damage and applies a Stun, which often secures the kill. Moreover, you can use this stun to peel your teammates or even scape from a gank.

Ultimate - Lightning Storm

Zeus conjures a massive storm that strikes enemies in the area repeatedly, applying Charges with every hit.

Drop this on top of a team-fight or an objective like the Fire Giant. It stacks Charges on enemies incredibly fast. This ability helps you a lot on dangerous situations to peel yourself from Assasins, as meanwhile they stay on that zone they will be getting charges for a future stun and heavy damage.

Example Combos

Easy Poke: Basic Attack (Minions) -> Chain Lightning (Bounce to God) -> Detonate Charge

The self-peel: Thunderclap (Run) -> Lightning Storm (on top of you) -> Detonate Charge (Stun)

Team-Fight Combo: Lightning Storm (On grouped enemies) -> Chain Lightning -> Wait for 3 stacks -> Detonate Charge

How to play Zeus

Gameplay Start / Early Game

  • Push your first wave efficiently using Chain Lightning. Aim for the melee minions so the lightning bounces to the archers, clearing the entire wave.

  • Move to your side camps with your jungler to fight for the neutral buffs.

  • Return to lane and focus on poking the enemy with Chain Lightning bounces. If you land a bounce on the enemy god, follow up with a few basic attacks if safe, then use Detonate Charge for early pressure.

  • At this stage, Zeus is extremely vulnerable due to having no dash or leap. Do not push up too far past the middle of the lane unless you know where the enemy jungler is.

  • Save Thunderclap as your primary defensive tool. If you get ganked, use the Movement Speed and Haste to retreat while firing back to discourage the pursuit.

Mid Game:

  • You enter the mid-game once you have completed your core items like Book of Thoth and Spear of Desolation. Your Detonate Charge now hits hard enough to force enemies out of lane.

  • Stick closely to your Support or Jungler. Zeus excels in 2v2 or 3v3 skirmishes where teammates can peel for you while you freely stack charges from the backline.

  • Look for fights around the Gold Fury. Your ultimate, Lightning Storm, is one of the best zoning tools in the game. Drop it on the objective to force the enemy team to back off or take massive damage.

  • If you catch an enemy out of position, use Thunderclap aggressively to chase them down. The Haste allows you to auto-attack while running, ensuring you get 3 charges for a Stun and kill.

Late Game:

  • In the late game, Zeus has the highest damage potential in the lobby. A single 3-stack Detonate Charge can delete a squishy target instantly.

  • Your primary goals in teamfights are:
    • Staying alive. You are the #1 target for the enemy team. Never walk into the jungle alone.
    • Spreading charges to as many enemies as possible using Chain Lightning and your Ultimate.

  • Always position yourself behind your tanks. Let them initiate the fight. Once the enemy commits to fighting them, drop Lightning Storm on the chaos to punish the entire enemy team.

  • During Fire Giant sieges, save your Detonate Charge to secure the objective. The burst damage is often higher than most gods abilities(non ultimates), allowing you to secure the buff against steal attempts.

  • Be patient with your Detonate. It is often better to wait an extra second to see if you can get a 3rd stack on a target for the Stun, rather than popping it early for minor damage.

  • When defending Phoenixes, Zeus is a monster. Clear the wave instantly with Chain Lightning and force the enemy team to dive into your Lightning Storm if they want to touch the tower.

How to ward as a Midlaner

Early/Mid Game

Here you can see the best spots to ward as a Midlaner.

These wards will help you to be safe during the first instances of the game, giving you the information about if your getting ganked from the solo or duo side.

Very Passive Situation

These wards will help you recover if you come from a bad spot i which maybe you are getting ganked a lot or invaded

Late Game

These wards are use to help your team on teamfight situations or fire gigant pulls, there are a lot of possibilities take those ones who you consider that suits the best to your game situation.

Siege / Defense Phoenix

For this situation there are only two main spots to have a ward, as you can see them rotating from one lane to the others, maybe you could even put one at lane to see if minions are approaching the phoenix but it isn't that important as knowing which lane they are going to siege.

As with that information you could be able to be on the right position before your enemies giving you a great advantage for the teamfight.

Regardless of the role, wards are the most important consumable you can buy, so don't forget to buy two wards after each back!
