Full build

Notes Pendulum of Ages as Anubis relies heavily on his Mummify to survive ganks. This item grants 20% Cooldown Reduction (CDR), ensuring your stun and your ultimate are available as often as possible.

Spear of Desolation This provides great amount of intelligence that allows you to deal great damage to squishy targets (Mages/Hunters) in the early-to-mid game. The passive cooldown reset is amazing for chain-killing enemies in teamfights.

Gem of Focus Anubis its a very static god, making him an easy target. This item grants Movement Speed to help you positioning, making it easier for you to survive while you burn down the enemy on a teamfight.

Book of Thoth is the heart of your damage as this item converts your mana pool into a massive Intelligence boost, making you combos capable of one-shotting enemies in the mid-game

Totem Of Death is mandatory on Anubis. Because his abilities tick rapidly, he instantly fully stacks the 30% Protection Shred passive. This allows him to melt tanks faster than any other mage in the game while gaining a massive 20% Cooldown Rate to keep his stun up.

Rod of Tahuti is your primary power spike. Its passive increases your total Item Intelligence by 25%, acting as a massive multiplier for your build. The added Max Mana synergizes perfectly with Book of Thoth, giving Anubis the raw damage numbers needed to melt tanks in seconds.

Obsidian Shard is your Tank destroyer. It ensures your ultimate remains a threat to everyone on the map, not just the enemy carries."

Anubis's Skill Order Notes While Plague of Locusts does more damage, you should prioritize maxing Grasping Hands first. The safety of clearing from range prevents you from being poked out of lane. Use your 1 only to finish off minions or when you have confirmed a stun with Mummify.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Ragna and I started playing Smite 1 on PC in 2021. I started playing in little community tournaments and after a lot of training and work I manage to play professional tournaments on Atlanta as the Smite Content Cup in 2024 and SCC on 2023 summer.

Now, in Smite 2 I have reached Deity every single split and I have competed in tournaments like Smite Vegas Qualifiers (ending in 5th position of EU) and right now Smite Prime, so Im always getting updated about the best metas on the game.

Apart from that I have a Twitch channel Ragna_smite where we play Smite 2 every single day and we do coaching for the subs to help them to improve on Smite 2, answering questions, talking about the game, etc.

Hope you find this guide as a good starting point for the midlane.

Here are my socials:

Abilities

Anubis's Abilities

Passive - The Scales

Gain bonus Lifesteal, Physical Protection, and Magical Protection. These bonuses increase as your health declines. At maximum stacks (8), Bonus Protections are doubled and Bonus Lifesteal is tripled.

This passive defines your playstyle as a "Drain Tank." When you are low on health, do not run away. Instead, turn and fight, as your tripled Lifesteal allows you to heal through incoming damage faster than enemies can kill you.

Ability 1 - Plague of Locusts

Locusts fly from your mouth, repeatedly dealing Magical Damage in a cone area in front of you. You are Displacement Immune but Slowed while channeling this ability.

This is your highest damage non-ultimate ability. Use the Displacement Immunity to counter gods with Knockups. Since you can move while casting, use it to chase down targets slowed by your Grasping Hands.

Ability 2 - Mummify

Fires a bandage projectile that deals Magical Damage and Stuns the first enemy god hit. It passes through minions but stops on walls and gods.

This is your only setup tool and defensive peel. It is a thin skillshot, so take your time to aim. Landing this guarantees that your target stays inside your Grasping Hands or eats the full duration of your Death Gaze.

Ability 3 - Grasping Hands

Summons allies from the underworld to deal repeated Magical Damage and apply a Slow in an area. The Slow refreshes on each hit.

This is your safest clear and poke ability. Use it to zone enemies or drop it on top of yourself if an Assassin dives you. Because it ticks 4 times over 1.5 seconds, it instantly stacks item passives like Totem Of Death.

Ultimate - Death Gaze

Your piercing gaze burns enemies in a line, dealing an initial burst of damage followed by rapid tick damage. You are CC Immune and Rooted while channeling.

This ability melts Tanks and Objectives alike. Since you are CC Immune, use it to counter incoming crowd control (like Ares' Pull or Fenrir's Bite). You can cancel it early if you need to move, but commit to the laser if you have your Lifesteal stacks up.

Example Combos

The "One-Shot" Combo: Mummify (Stun) -> Grasping Hands (Under them) -> Death Gaze (Laser)

The Trade Pattern: Grasping Hands (Slow) -> Plague of Locusts (Chase)

Self-Peel: Grasping Hands (On yourself) -> Mummify (Point blank)

How to play Anubis

Gameplay Start / Early Game

  • Push your first wave as fast as possible using your Plague Of Locusts. Aim to hit all minions and best case scenario the enemy god simultaneously to gain early lane pressure.

  • Head to your side camps with your jungler to secure farm; Anubis clears camps faster than almost any other mage, allowing you to reach your Spear of Desolation power spike faster.

  • Return to lane and prioritize using Grasping Hands to clear from a safe distance. Use the slow to poke the enemy Mid laner while healing up any damage taken via your passive lifesteal.

  • At this stage, you are extremely vulnerable as you have no escape; prioritize safe farming and never push past the halfway point of the lane unless your Jungler is nearby to cover you.

  • Use your Death Gaze as soon as you hit level 5. Look for a Mummify stun on the enemy mid; if it lands, commit your ultimate immediately for a guaranteed solo kill.

Mid Game:

  • You enter the mid-game once you have completed 3 core items, such as Spear of Desolation and Gem of Focus, which turns your tick damage into a shredding machine that melts both squishies and tanks.

  • Maintain a high farm rate by using your Grasping Hands to instant-clear waves, then look to ambush enemies in the jungle. Anubis excels at turning corners and one-shotting enemies who face-check him.

  • Look for objective opportunities. Your Death Gaze shreds the Gold Fury and Pyromancer in seconds. Call for your team to start the objective, knowing you can secure it before the enemy can react.

  • Focus on "Counter-Engage." Do not start fights yourself. Wait for the enemy Jungler or Solo to dive your team, then drop Grasping Hands under them and use Mummify to peel for yourself.

Late Game:

  • In the late game, Anubis becomes a one-shot god, capable of healing through massive damage as long as he lands his abilities.

  • Your primary goals in teamfights are:
    • Waiting for your setup (like an Athena Taunt or Fenrir Ult) to dump your damage.
    • Using Mummify to catch an enemy carry out of position for an instant pick.

  • Always position yourself behind your Support; since Anubis roots himself to deal damage, you need your team to body-block for you while you channel your laser.
  • During Fire Giant dances, use Death Gaze to burn the boss if your team has zoning control. You can take the Fire Giant from 50% to 0% health faster than any Hunter.

  • If the enemy is siegeing, use Grasping Hands to clear the wave instantly. The large area denied by the slow makes it very difficult for enemies to dive you under the Phoenix without taking massive damage.

  • Mastering the timing of your Death Gaze (knowing when you are safe to root yourself) and hitting your Mummify consistently will distinguish you as a top-tier Anubis Mid player.

How to ward as a Midlaner

Early/Mid Game

Here you can see the best spots to ward as a Midlaner.

These wards will help you to be safe during the first instances of the game, giving you the information about if your getting ganked from the solo or duo side.

Very Passive Situation

These wards will help you recover if you come from a bad spot i which maybe you are getting ganked a lot or invaded

Late Game

These wards are use to help your team on teamfight situations or fire gigant pulls, there are a lot of possibilities take those ones who you consider that suits the best to your game situation.

Siege / Defense Phoenix

For this situation there are only two main spots to have a ward, as you can see them rotating from one lane to the others, maybe you could even put one at lane to see if minions are approaching the phoenix but it isn't that important as knowing which lane they are going to siege.

As with that information you could be able to be on the right position before your enemies giving you a great advantage for the teamfight.

Regardless of the role, wards are the most important consumable you can buy, so don't forget to buy two wards after each back!
