This build has been tested mainly on clash and arena maps but could also be used on other maps with high pace fighting, such as joust. The general gist of this build is to max out cooldown reductions to enhance sustain without Gauntlet of Thebes and to allow for high damage at longer ranges with Chaacs first ability. It also builds protections without sacrificing power, so high damage is the result. Your main source of damage comes from a mix of ability combos and basic attacks.
+High Sustain +Good defence +High damage +Powerful slow +Good clear/poke |
-Relatively mana hungry -Unreliable mobility(He in fact does not move like a jaguar) -Default skin is pretty ugly -Cheers for the other team |
This is for the items that actually need explaining, everyone already knows why boots and Jotunns are good picks.
Shield of Regrowth | The two shields I put in the core build seem to need some explaining as they are rarely picked. The shield of regrowth offers 30 power and 30 physical protections, that's quite a nice mix considering how cheap the object is. It also offers 10% cooldown reduction, very nice on this build. Its passive is also a very useful one as it's pretty much an upgrade to Chaacs 3, it increases movement by 35% for 3 seconds when they are healed with on of your abilities(10 sec cooldown). This means you will have a movement steroid, a slow and a heal on one ability |
1-2: A nice bit of damage and a blink to get you closer to the enemy, it is however both risky and unreliable as most people will see it coming. Also use this to set up a return point so you can duke someone into letting you escape.
1-2-3: Same as above but with a slow, use if you can secure a kill.
1-3: More utility than damage, this can be used to save teammates/slow enemies etc.
1-2-4-3: Your ultimate initiation combo, use to blink into a fight, ult, and chase down your chosen target/s.
1-2 with no delay in between: A quick close range burst, pretty simple. You can also use 3 to escape or chase with the bonus area slow.
3-2-1: With Shield of Renewal you can chase someone down, then deliver some close range damage before finishing off your fleeing target with a thrown axe, nothing more satisfying than that.
Zeus? I'll have fun silencing you. Thor? Nah mate, my weapon is bigger. Raijin? Oh, you're the guy in the school band who got bullied because he was sunburned all the time. It's time for the true god of thunder to take his throne, and show all the other measliy goods that it's not a good idea to faac with the chaac.

Also, I forgot to add the differences between arena and clash so remove the mentions of arena from the title.
As for Ancile, I usually pick that for two reason: 25 power(to squeeze as much damage out as possible) and confusion, while Ancile is certainly less useful than Spirit Robe nobody knows what to do in response besides wait it out, which buys me enough time to do something. Though, if I'm up against a CC heavy team I'd go Spirit Robe without a doubt.
And now that I think about it, mystical mail probably isn't the best choice for chaac since this build is meant to make him relevant at all ranges. So I agree that Runeforged is the better pick.
Meditation works well for me since I'm just a little bit sustain mad, as you might expect from an ex Sylvanus main.
On your comments on Torrent, I kind of eluded to some of it but didn't elaborate in my guide. Though in my experiance I could trick people into grouping near the axe before I blinked if they were in the tower radius since they tend to think it was just a poke. Of course it's risky, but high sustain characters can get away with a bit of riskiness.
Thanks for the feedback
I just always wonder, with 1 second silences, how much that really does. I mean, with a squishy god that can be focused to death in the blink of an eye, I get it. But 1 second just seems so short...with a 1 minute CD, seems so measly. He already has a 3 second silence in his ult with a shorter 45 second CD at max CDR!
I guess I'm still a bit bitter about the old Ancile, which I liked better than the current iteration, but was still pretty niche.
Anyway, thanks for your contribution to the site, and for the detailed response to my comment!
Thought I'd comment on your guide. The following is my opinion, so you don't have to agree.
Firstly, Arena and Clash are very similar, and very different. Both are massive teamfight modes, but Clash also has lanes and a longer travel time to get to the middle. This may or may not affect how you choose to build, at least to start...and that's where my next comment will come in.
Bluestone Pendant is a great starter item, specifically for slower modes like Siege and Conquest with an emphasis on laning...it helps when you're a Solo-laner and you need the extra damage to help clear minions. For Arena, it's such a quick mode that getting this can put you behind, and I generally don't suggest starters for this mode (my preference).
In Clash, since you've got at least 1-2 other people in your lane helping to clear minions, I personally feel it's less of a draw. The other part to this is that to maximize its effect, you really want to be getting both stacks. Chaac is much less likely to do that compared to other gods. Most of the time, you're only going to be confirming one attack ( Thunder Strike). Much less often, you'll be using the additional attack from Torrent. Rain Dance doesn't have any damage associated with it, so you're pretty limited to how you might get those 2 ability hits...and in the end, the added damage is much more helpful when hitting multiple minions by yourself...30-60 damage is pretty miniscule vs an enemy god, especially when it means you're delayed a bit in getting full tier 3 items. Does this make sense?
Would actually like to see a full example build at the top...you show your core, and have good general suggestions for offensive and defensive items, but would like to see a full sequence.
Regarding the rest of those items, there are two that I personally wouldn't get in most situations.
Ancile, one of your core, is an okay item and cheap, but the passive is just a bit lackluster. I get what your primary focus here is with the core...get max CDR and get some protections against both magical and physical. That said, I think you'd probably be better served maxing CDR with Spirit Robe as a core item...its passive is way stronger, with a much lower CD, and the balanced protections will add to your physical protection (since Shield only provides 30). I'd consider Ancile a situational defensive option, say when facing a team with 4+ magical gods (doesn't happen often, but does happen).
Mystical Mail is just a bleh item for me...with many gods having escapes, keeping gods close to you to get great effect from this fairly expensive item can be difficult, even with the use of your slow (and sometimes via the silence from your ult). In Arena, especially, the lower the item cost, the better, to allow you to get a full build online ASAP. Rather, I'd consider the better hybrid item to be Runeforged Hammer perhaps...you've got a long-lasting slow, and if you can keep enemies near, you're helping your entire team deal more damage...and it provides some health like Mystical does, a stat you're not getting through the majority of your other items...and it's now CHEAP. (I remember when it was like...2700 gold?!?)
With your relic choices, yes, I know Chaac is mana hungry, but depending on how you start, you're supplementing with mana potions, or will be heading back to base on a pretty regular basis. So you should be able to manage your mana decently without Meditation, and you've got a built-in heal in your kit. Strongly suggest not getting Med in Arena, and only situationally in Clash. Your other relic choices are fine, though you might also consider adding Shell for group defense.
For aesthetics, if you don't mind adding a bit of extra spacing between the various skills, items, etc., it will help readability, since it's all a wall of grey text.
You can mention something specifically for Thunder Strike. The delay comes specifically with the distance at which you throw. If you throw at max distance, it's definitely harder to confirm a hit. But if you can limit distance to about half max, you're extremely likely to get a hit every time.
As for Torrent, it not only has offensive function, but defensive as well. You can throw your axe over/through walls, or if you're being chased, you can throw the axe one way and run the other...they either have to choose to follow you or head to the axe...and you'll be able to create distance whichever way they decide. Also, offensively, people don't always expect you to Torrent in. If you're throwing your axe every 6-7 seconds, they're going to be pretty used to it being next to them. Only choose very specific times to jump in, when you can catch them off guard.
Anyway, hope my comments are helpful!
