Introduction

KamikazeKitty here again, this time writing a guide solely for Arena for Bastet, the Goddess of Cats. I am in no way a great Bastet player, but the fact that my first 3 Arena games with her with my build were

    12-3
    11-3
    13-0
You might be saying HOT DAMN! those some good games, and while they were the truth is I was partied up with some awesome dudes and we have teamwork and that's why I got so many kills and escaped a couple deaths. You can try and play Bastet all solo Rambo, but you'll probably die. Also, Bastet is best played as a Burst Assassin. That means jump in, blow everything on their face and jump out. More on all this in later sections.

Without further delay, here is how to be a killer kitty playing like Kitty :).

Abilities

open wound

Open Wound

When Bastet hits an enemy with Pounce, Razor Whip or Declaw, she wounds the target for a brief time. If the target has a wound, those abilities deal additional damage and remove the wound instead.

Ability: Debuff
Affects: Enemy
Additional Damage: 15%
Wound Duration: 3s
Basically this further emphasizes the nuking capability of Bastet. Jump in, and if you land multiple abilities, one of them will do +15% damage! Free DAMAGE!
Bastet pounces to her target location, damaging enemies within the radius. For 4 seconds after pouncing, you can press the button again to pounce back to your initial location. Bastet also moves 25% faster while in the Return Pounce state.

Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Physical
Damage: 80 / 145 / 210 / 275 / 340 (+100% of your physical power)
Radius: 20
Cost: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90
Cooldown: 12s
This is such a great ability. So much utility and damage. You can jump in, use all your other abilities and return to where you jumped from. It's also great for finishing off an enemy because you can pounce on them, then jump back so the enemy team can't collapse on you. The danger is that someone can camp your jump back spot and wait for you...
Bastet swipes at her enemies, causing them to bleed for damage every second for the duration.

Ability: Cone
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Physical
Damage per Tick: 25 / 45 / 65 / 85 / 105 (+25% of your physical power)
Duration: 4s
Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80
Cooldown: 15s
This is the ability I max first because it's much easier to land than Declaw. Also, if you land your Pounce this will do +15% damage with your passive. The last reason is that often enemies will escape you since you use you jump to initiate. The bleed on this goes for 4s and I can't tell you how many kills I've gotten from the bleed damage on this ability.
declaw

Declaw

Bastet lashes her weapon, unleashing a projectile that detonates on her target, dealing damage and slowing the enemies in the area.

Ability: Projectile
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Physical
Damage: 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+100% of your physical power)
Slow: 30%
Slow Duration: 2s
Cost: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90
Cooldown: 10s
This ability does a lot of damage, and is AoE if you land it. The slow is amazing, and essential to land when you drop the killer kitties so they can get more attacks in in a shorter time. This is the main harass/poke ability I use when my ultimate is on cooldown.
cat call

Cat Call

Bastet summons 3 cats that attack nearby targets, slowing and damaging them. Sensing the smell of blood, the cats will attack bleeding enemies first.

Ability: Summon Pet
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Physical
Damage per Hit: 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 (+20% of your physical power)
Slow: 20%
Cat Lifetime: 10s
Cost: 90 / 95 / 100 / 105 / 110
Cooldown: 90s
This is probably the main reason Bastet is feared, or at least disliked by enemies. Her ult is super annoying to get hit by, especially after taking a slow from Declaw. These cats can kill multiple people in their lifetime if the enemy doesn't focus them, but generally they will get one kill or an assist. Make sure you are closest to your target and that you hit them with another ability before you summon these ferocious felines on them.

Items

Sorry about the BBCoding errors, some items aren't working how they are supposed to... I've tried dang near everything to fix it. Please let me know if you have a fix for the multiple word items not registering for BBCoding.

Core Items

Warrior Tabi are the go-to boot for any physical character that relies on ability damage to get kills. Bastet is a burst physical god, so buy these always.

Jotunn’s is another must buy on most assassins. This item has CDR so you can use your abilities more frequently as well as penetration and power. The extra mana also helps a lot on Bastet as she has such a low mana pool at the start. Always buy this item second.

Shifter’s Shield Shifter’s is a great item on burst assassins, and assassins in general. You get +60 power above 50% health, which is the most out of a non-stacking item. You also get protections to help you in case you do happen to get hit with some abilities when you jump in. I consider this item necessary for the huge amount of power it gives you for your third item.

Titan’s Bane Titan’s is a great buy since they removed the pen from boots. The percentage pen isn’t as nice as flat pen since you’ll be targeting squishies, but it takes effect before flat pen so it is still really good. I pick this up fourth always in Arena.

Optional Items

Brawler’s Beat Stick Brawler’s is an excellent item on Baster purely for the power and the penetration. If there is a healer on the other team, or anyone with self-heals/lifesteal try and get a basic on them in the midst of throwing all your abilities on their face. The power and the flat pen is enough of a reason to buy this item anyways.

I buy deathbringer purely for the power. The passive is excellent if you manage to land a crit, but the majority of the time you won’t be basic attacking anyways. I always buy this last just to round out some power on my build. Any item with 50 power would work, I just buy this one because I believe in the RNG XD.

Magi’s Blessing Magi’s is an excellent item on any squishy assassin because it essentially saves your life once every 45 seconds. It does reduce your power and by the time you pick up your third or fourth item, you should be able to judge whether or not you need this. Generally buying beads and using them appropriately will be enough.

Hydra’s Lament Hydra’s isn’t as great an item since the nerf. The passive never really did much for Bastet anyways since she doesn’t AA very often. The main reason to buy this is the fact that it has power and CDR, but I personally don’t ever buy it because it’s too expensive for what it is.

Winged Blade is mostly a defensive item that happens to have some CDR on it which is nice. If they have a lot of slows on their team and are using them to keep you from escaping or doing damage, this might be a good buy. Plus it’ll put you at 35% CDR so you can use your ult more often and annoy the **** out of them.

Void Shield is a decent buy if you are dying to physical gods a lot. Not only do you get a good amount of protections, but you get some power and reduce their protections when you are near them. Unfortunately if you use your Cat Call and jump away they get their protections back, but you should get a kill or at least an assist still.

Playstyle

***NOTE***

This build is for Arena, I may update it to include Conquest once I get some more playtime in on Conquest.

Playing Bastet in Arena is both difficult and easy. It really depends on the team you are with and whether or not you can communicate with any of them. Having a team with a good amount of CC and the ability to work together is amazing. If they aren’t helping you out, or aren’t coordinating very well it’s up to you to figure out the best times to jump in.

A lot of people probably read up to this point and are like, “All you said is jump in, throw abilities then ultimate and jump out, that’s easy.” While it is easy to basically just 1-2-3-4-1, it’s how and when you do it that can be difficult. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

NEVER JUMP IN BY YOURSELF

You will more than likely die, especially if there is more than one enemy. While Bastet has the ability to 1v1 some gods, Arena is small enough that other gods can jump in or even blink in and quickly it’s a 1v2 or 1v3 and you will die. The only time it might be acceptable to jump in solo is if they are the only god alive and are on your half of the map.

WAIT FOR OTHERS TO INITIATE

You are not tanky, even with Shifter’s Shield you will get destroyed quickly. If you jump in first, you will get hit with CC and focused to death before you can jump back out. The element of surprise is your greatest asset and use it to your advantage. Wait for the enemies to focus the tank or someone else and jump in on someone not in the middle of things. This will not only help ensure you get a kill because the other team won’t be able to respond until after you have already threw at least 2 abilities, but it will help you survive by being able to jump back before they turn and burn you.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE ENEMIES ABILITIES

This may seem difficult, but it’s really not, especially if you have a team that you are talking with. Watch for Thor to throw his hammer, or for Agni to dash, then strike. Also, never jump in on Anubis if he has his Mummify or Death Gaze up, you will die 99% of the time. Wait for the enemies to use their escapes and/or CC, then jump in when they are helpless to get away from the killer kitties. There is nothing more annoying than jumping in blowing all your abilities on a Scylla to watch her teleport into well and escape death.

DO NOT CHASE

Don’t Chase! This goes for pretty much every god, but in Arena, chasing them to well is the single worst thing you can do. Don’t confuse the difference of pushing them to well as opposed to chasing. Chasing is when you have tunnel vision on a single enemy and pursue them across the map in an attempt to get a kill. Pushing them is when your entire team is at their base and they die if they come out of well. The difference is whether or not you have back-up.

Actives

These actives are for Arena gamemode, in Conquest you would always buy Hand of the Gods.

This is excellent in Arena. You can slow everyone in a large radius as well as remove their healing. Combine this with your Cat Call ultimate and you should be guaranteed a kill.
I always buy this since I don't build Magi's Blessing in Arena. This can and will save your life at least once.
This is useful in conjunction with Beads if you are dying to nuking ultimates like Release the Kraken or Searing Pain.
Again useful for avoiding highly damaging ultimates, or for escaping when your Pounce is on cooldown. I personally don't buy this active as you should never jump into a situation where you might need it.

Summary

Bastet is very much so a burst assassin. All her damage comes from her abilities, which is why you build her for physical power and penetration. She also has two abilities that do tick damage, even better for doing pure ability damage. Her ultimate is about the most annoying ultimate in the game, short of the executes, and her jump can be used to jump back to its origin. She has an interesting kit that thrives off chaining abilities together for maximum damage.

Deathbringer is useless on her, even with the power or crit. You could get CDR to be more consistent or more pen to be more bursty.
