Hmm, I never said that it was your concept. :)

Yes, the -1 per 20% could be - I will use this until I get other information.

So you're basically saying that AS does not experience diminishing returns (that is what your data pointed towards anyway)?

Interesting. I'm going to try this out myself.

Hi Moba-Com,

i got not a lot of experience in Moba games.
Played LoL for 6 month but switched to Smite now (like it a lot lot lot more ^^) and waiting for Dota2 to become open.

So, my questions are about the math of damage/protection/penetration.

How does the damage work?
example: i buy +40 damage, enemy doesnt have protection
How much more damage do i hit for?

Ok. Basically, each of your abilities have scaling. Depending on what type of damage (physical or magical) your scaling is, you will receive extra damage depending on the scaling. For example, Loki's Assassinate has a 140% scaling. With 40 PHYSICAL damage, you will gain 56 extra damage on your Assassinate. However, if you buy 40 MAGICAL damage, then you gain no extra damage.

How does the protection work?
example: i buy +40 protection
How much less damage do i get?

Ok, so if the armour works the same with most other basic MOBAs, the damage reduction you get is depended on an equation and also the type of damage you receive. Physical defense and Magical defense for Physical and Magical damage respectively. The equation is 100 divided by (100+armour/ magic resist unit has). The answer you get is multiplied by the damage you receive.. So let's use Loki's Assassinate as an example again. At max rank, it does 550 physical damage. With 40 armour, the equation becomes 100/(100+ 40)x 550. 100/140 is approximately 0.7. So, 550 x 0.7 is 385. The unit will only take 385 damage. However, if you buy magic resistance, then Assassinate will do the same damage.

How does the damage vs. protection work?
example: i got 40 damage, enemy got 40 protection
Since there is penetration stuff, am i guessing right that protection doesnt cancel damage completly?
If yes, how much of my damage comes trough?

Refer to above

penetration negates protection completly?
example: i got +20 penetration, enemy got +20 protection
Does it behave like the enemy has no added protection?
nagte? back to normal?

It depends whether it's percentage based or flat based. Flat based is easier to understand. Flat based basically treats it as the target would have that amount less of armour. So if you had +20 flat penetration, it would behave as if the target had no armour. Percentage on the otherhand, multiplies it based on how much percentage you have. So if you had +20 percentage penetration, it would multiply the targets armor by 0.2 or 20% and then subtract it from the armour amount. The equation is: Amount of Armour - (Amount of Armour x Percentage of Armour Penetration). With 20% percentage penetration, you will find 20% of 20, which is 4, and subtract it from the amount of armour, 20, which will leave it at 16 armour. Same applies to magic resist if I'm not mistaken.

An last: Is there a difference between physical and magical in this calculations?
i mean ofc: physical protection aint gonna affect magical damage...
but are those somehow different in how they behave?

They behave the same except for the fact that physical damage carries over to auto-attacks.

i didnt found a site that could answer me those questions, so i would be very glad if someone can enlighten me ^^

185 is a typo and should be 385, correct?

Oh, I know a lot about the game mechanics, considering how I've been playing LoL for about a year and a half and the Smite Mechanics are relatively the same.

I did a test again with Thor to test movement speed stacking.

I will post the numbers tomorrow if you like but what I have seen as a side effect on the AS part => there were no -1 per 20%; AS stacked additiv without reduction oO

Don't say this works different on special gods.... :/
