Introduction

First let me state this is my first guide ever and I still consider myself noob status in Smite but this is the build I have been using with Erlang Shen and it has been tearing up fairly well.

With Erlang his 1 being a passive boost to his auto attack makes him a great attack speed and crit God while being able to soak up some damage.

Items and Why?

Warrior Tabi to just increase how hard Erlang will hit out of the gate. It is fairly easy for him to run in with his 1 activated and get first blood and get out before even getting a scratch on him due to his turtle knocking enemies. A great combo to get gold built up a little faster to lead into our Ritual Dagger.

Ritual Dagger in my eyes is the Jotunn of crit builds. Atk Spd, Movement Spd, CDR, and some HP to pad oneself to take more hits. Ritual Dagger his 1 ability and Wind Demon later will be all the attack speed he needs to bring the pain on multiple enemies downing them quickly while being able to take any punishment they dish out.

The Standard crit items. Rage, Wind Demon, and Death Bringer. Critting as often and as hard as possible ensures that the enemy will be left fleeing from melee range. Of course with his 1 you can just chase them down due to the extra movement speed from Ritual Dagger or using 2 lock them into place if they ability away or 3 to Turtle in for the final hit with the shield up to be able to take a tower hit or straight into the next enemy.

Then last but not least to wrap up in end game is Qin's Sais. I know many will say its an odd choice to round it out at the end and not have it earlier to deal with tanks but I have found that most often then not that until end game it is not enough extra damage to justify early on. I have felt that besides Ymir being stacked completely defense that few guardians can take the punishment that Erlang can deliver. So this final touch is just to make those fights go quicker regardless if guardian warrior or a squishy.

Play Style

Early game pick up atk spd buff or damage buff this will greatly help out in early game. If another god on your team will do better early game with the buff let them have it as you can focus on getting them set up and get the assist or final hit early game. Using his turtle and ulti wisely in early game will set up for some massive damage in team play for other gods with their abilities. Ex: 3 into turtle knock up God 1, Friendly Anubis wraps as they land into Anubis 3 and 1, early game not enough to kill Erlang pops 1 and finishes off God 1. Don't be afraid to play support in the early game with movement spd, purification/meditation, and Ritual Dagger, you have the health and mobility to draw and survive.

Mid game things become interesting. Should have Rage and Wind Demon or working towards Wind Demon which means you will crit more often increasing attack spd, activating your 1 will increase it even more, and if you went to chase or to initiate with 3 mink form then your attack speed will be off the charts. This is where you go from being support and cleaning up kills to being able to be the killer. Multiple situations can be adjusted for. Ex: God 2 is running away behind enemies but you are confident you can get in and out. 2 to trap them in place, 3 turtle to bust through enemy lines, cancel after knock up activate 1 and then ulti to keep them from getting to base, then after kill 2 on enemy team and easy escape. Ex 2: Ra/Kukul has ulti ready, ulti enemy gods into a line into 3 to turtle knock up by the time they hit the ground Ra/Kukul ulti hits them, possible deicide/penta kill for your team mate.

End game will be more of mid game but now you will basically shred face with all the crit power and Qin's you will be able to tear through just about any build regardless of defenses. Once again the exception most likely from personal experience would be Ymir stacked purely for defense. Not much will change except for how hard you are hitting so that allows you to keep all the utility for different situations while wrecking havoc on the enemy at the same time. They won't be able to anticipate if you are coming in for a solo attack or setting them up for a combo with a team mate.

For my relics I personally run meditation and purification. I opt for these two because his healing is already amazing with his ulti in conjunction with meditation for the extra mana early and mid game makes him a force that can stay out there a long time giving team mates the chance to back without giving up any footing you have already made. Purification is a must in my opinion due to being shut down so easily to roots and snares. Nothing like drifting around as a turtle just to get rooted and be back to normal Erlang Shen or to be stunned at the start of the taunt just to get wrecked before the heal pops.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
High Mobility
Great Healing
Fast Movement Spd
Can take some damage

Cons:
Easily shut down to roots/stuns/slows (Purification can help mitigate this.)
Mid to late game.
A hassle to take out waves.
Ulti taunt is short lived and heal takes a long time to pop.

Summary

All in all Erlang Shen is a very fun warrior to play with many options on how to build him to your play style. This is the build I have been having the most fun with.
I have built him tanky before and did excellent I just did not enjoy it as much. It just felt off and with Erlang Shen's lore this build just feels more his style being able to go in kick some butt and get out without even being phased by what he encountered.
Hirez did an excellent job designing and balancing this god even if we rage over how much weak we are to CC during our 3 and ulti, if those weren't easily affected I would have to say he was OP.
I would also like to just apologize for how unprofessional this guide may look to the more professional guide makers. Don't really know the code to this site all that well.

Well for one, you need some penetration my friend. The Executioner can do that job well. You really dont need 3 crits item for a crit build. Two can be enough. Deathbringer is still a must though for any crit build, so your choice of Rage or wind demon. Just be careful though, this can cost tons of gold if you are not farming efficiently.

Thanks for the tip, and yeah The Executioner in place of Wind Demon would make sure you don't give up any attack speed. I feel like Rage is still more essential then Wind Demon this way it takes some RNG out of the window for more consistent crits.

Whatever you like to use man, either or can work. RNG can still place a factor in Rage though, just makes it less frustrating imo.
