Hello there, and welcome to my very first god guide on SmiteFire !
This guide will talk about one of my favorites and most played gods in Smite : Anubis, the god of the dead !
Anubis is often said to be one of the worst god in Smite due to his squishy stats and his lack of escape. But we'll see that he also has some huge advantages and can be a really dangerous god if played correctly.
This guide is focused around the mid and solo lane, as they are the only viable roles for Anubis in my opinion.
P.S : English is not my main language so sorry in advance for the grammar mistakes.
This is a really, really good and complete passive. It allows you to steal magical and physical protection from the ennemy you hit with your abilities and also increases the magical lifesteal scaling of your lifesteal items by 33% ! This is why lifesteal is so important on Anubis.
Oh and since it wasn't still enough, that passive also grants you 30% CC Reduction.
Anubis's first ability. Anubis spits a swarm of locusts from his mouth that deals tick damage every 0.5s for 3s in a cone area. This is your main buff and wave clear ability. However, you're going to level up this skill 2nd for several reasons that we will see below.
Anubis's second ability. Anubis fires a bandage projectile that goes through minions and stops at the first god hit, mummifying and stunning the latter. This is your only initiate and (kind of) escape. Run as fast as you can if you miss that ability during a teamfight in the lategame.
Anubis's third ability. Anubis summons a circle where hands penetrate the ground and claw at his ennemies, doing damage and slowing every 0.5s for 2s. You want to level up this skill first for these reasons :
- This is a waaaay safer waveclear than Plage of locusts, as you can just hide behind your wave and drop it under the ennemy's wave. Plus it doesn't root you like Plague of locusts does.
- The second reason is that you're going to do more early burst damage with the 2-3-4 combo if you level up that skill first.
You can also use this ability to chase your ennemies down, by dropping it under their feet to slow them by 25%.
Anubis's ultimate. Anubis fires a devastating laser beam from his eyes in a straight line, dealing damage to all ennemies in the path every 0.1s for 3s. That skill is the reason why Anubis is so badass. The possibility to one shot several gods in one time in the lategame only with one skill is just insane. However, this ability has a huge drawback : it roots you for the duration of your ult, leaving you vulnerable for 3 seconds. So only activate it if you know that you will have the possibility to escape safely once you've killed your target.
If ult is not ready
Mummify > Grasping hands > Plague of locusts
If ult is ready
Mummify > Grasping handes > Death gaze
This is Anubis's absolute core item. It's passive works really well with him and provides a good amount of magical lifesteal. Get it first.
I prefere to get these over Shoes of Focus since the nerf to CD reduction. More power, msgical pen but no mana. Your preference.
Works extremely well with DoT damage abilities. All of anubis's damage abilities does DoT damage. Plus it's cheap. Do I need to say more ? Get it over Obsidian Shard.
I see you coming : "More lifesteal ?? WHAT ?"
But trust me, you have to try it by yourself to see how much double lifesteal on Anubis is effective. And it gives you a lot of power and a bit of CDR too.
Because who doesn't want to one shot a god with a little 2-3-1 combo ?
Noting really special here, a core item for every mage.
In conclusion, Anubis is a scary god with extremely powerful abilities, a good stun and an incredible lifesteal capability. Yes he's squishy, no he doesn't have a good escape, but who needs that when you can just go in a teamfight, kill the entire ennemy team and then leave it with full health thanks to the enormous amount of lifesteal ?
Which other god can do that ?
That's right, none.
P.S : I'd love to hear your feedback so I can improve for my next guides !

@Archergirl : I personally think that spear of the magus is better than obsidian on Anubis because its passive combo so well with his kit. Also Divine Ruin is a better choice than pytagorem's piece if the ennemy team has a healer (Guan yu, hel, ra...). If not, pythagorem is a better choice since it provides more power and lifesteal :)
