Agni is pretty good against every mid lane matchup, his clear is good, his mid to late game is great, also have a lot of combos in his kit. Agni can always be the hyper carry for the team. Agni doesn't have a lot of utility, but still do tons of damage, with only one stun in his kit, is more than enough, even do very well from behind, very hard to lock down, so much turn around potential.
Agni's build is very flexible, you can build full damage, you can build damage with some utility, or high pen damage with defense.
Doom Orb is very good on Agni, cause it's very cheap and the early power, will give Agni more map control, when Agni hit Lv5, the damage is even more powerful, very easy to burst down anyone in early to mid game. can get it very early, very easy to stack.
Spear of the Magus is so strong on Agni in early to mid game, Agni can stack up the penetration very easy, also giving you decent power, also super good when playing from behind
Bancroft's Talon is great for Agni in combat, cause the lifesteal will help you to heal yourself a little bit to sustain longer. The passive of the item also make Agni even more powerful, when Agni low health, can just dropping bombs over the wall to do damage, can burst down anyone
Winged Blade make Agni even harder to get locked down. Agni have one dash only, after using it, Agni is very easy getting killed, so with Winged Blade, Agni can still escape and doing damage without using the dash. Also health and CCR, it's so usful
Combustion:
after hitting 4 basic attack, your next ability either Flame Wave or Rain Fire, will do extra damage
Noxious Fumes:
place it on the group, when you hit it with other ability, the enemy on it will get stun
Flame Wave:
do arena damage to the enemy in front of you
Path of Flames:
dash forward in a long distance, do damage to the enemy step on it
Rain Fire:
drop bombs from the sky to do damage, he can charge 3 times
Agni have a lot of Combos, everyone not that hard and useful.

use 2 to do damage and then use 1 for stun
Combo#2
use 3 dash behind the enemy, then use 1 to stun and use 2 for damage
Combo#3
use 1 and then use 3 for stun and continue damage, use 2 for more damage
Combo#4
use 4 and then 1 for stun and damage, use 2 for more damage
Combo#5
use 4 and 1, then use 3 to dash for all-in and 2
Combo#6
use 3 and 1, drop 4 on the group
Combo#7
use 4 and 1, and keep using 4

Tips:
Never use dash for all-in if you can't kill the enemy
The combo isn't just for the all-in
Use auto attack for passive
As a backline mage damage, never use dash for damage, don't focus frontline tank. The range of your ult is huge, so always use bombs on the carry. Mage is very hard to burst down a tank. Sometimes save your 1 for peeling once you're on danger. And always sit behind your tanky frontline. Use dash to reset position. Once your frontline CC a lot of enemy, just drop all your bombs on the carry
Agni doesn't have a hard time in every match up, maybe bad in Lv 1-4, once hit Lv5, he has no problem.
