Introduction

Hello and welcome to my first ever guide to what has become my preferred God of choice, Loki!

As stated in this guide's title my goal here is to broaden your view of what roles of Loki the assassin God has to offer. Since I have "unpredictability" the main focus of my guide understand that my skill and item builds are general guide lines and everyone should know that a well played Loki will need to anticipate and adapt to the other players in each and every match. This guide does have a brief view of how to apply my strategies and builds to arena as well in a small chapter near the end, however, the main context of this guide will be suited towards conquest matches.

If my guide does not explain well enough my reasons for my skill and item builds, or if you have need of more details please feel free to send me a private message and I will get back to you within 72 hours.

*On a side note I would prefer all suggestions to improve my guide be sent to me in private message so not to clutter my comments. If you dislike my guide, feel free to tell me, but I ask that you do so in a polite manner and respectful tone.*

Updated as of 11/12/12 to reflect new strategies and builds to the recent update release Smite 0.1.1195.0 released on Nov 19th, and the hot fix on Nov 20th.

Updated as of 12/07/12 to reflect patch changes to Smite 0.1.1215.0

Pros / Cons

Many people claim that Loki it over powered, but fail to realize that he has some very key balance traits. Here are some Pros/Cons of Loki to help you understand why the developers designed him this way.

Pros:
- Extremely Unpredictable (if played correctly)
- Great mobility
- Able to Ult or vanish out of slows and other player ults giving him great survivability.
- High AP and attack speeds

Cons:
- Very Squishy
- Most abilities are melee ranged putting him in harms way often
- No useful AoE abilities
- Can easily be countered with Physical Defense items
- Basic attack dependent for dammage
- Brings nothing to the table for Team fights

Items

So why did I change the build? Simple, it was lacking...period. Though it was still a very successful build and got you the kills most Loki players wanted it was still in fact very much under powered early to mid game. So after exploring more options and builds I have to admit that the Fatalis had to go, sadly.

So what did I change and why?
As usual I have Warrior Tabi but removed Hand of the Gods as it no longer gives that amazing +10hp per hit. So I subbed it with first rank Qin's Blades. Why Qin's? Well for some reason Loki feels way more squishy, so the 50hp and phy power will balance that out a little. I have also added Soul Eater to the build instead of Golden Bow. This is because Loki needs more survivability in the over all game to help counter the harder hitting gods.

I then have you following up with level 2 boots and the Heart Seeker item. Don't finish off your boots until you have completed your Heart Seeker and also picked up level 3 Executioner. Once you have that make a judgement call, if you need more speed because people are getting away from you finish the boots. If they are just not dropping dead fast enough for you pick up Qin's Blades before you finish the boots.

By this time you should be around level 13-14 with your Loki and entering late mid game with 1/2 their towers down. And this is where you will start to shine. Pick up Deathbringer and put the hurt on them! If you have extra cash pick up sprint to make up for the movement loss from not getting Fatalis anymore, the passive is now 100% on making this valuable.

Another option you might want to consider subbing the Soul eater for Void Blade or Frost Hammer if you feel that you need more of a tanky feel.

Playing Tricky with the Trickster!

Mid lane with Loki is amazing since he has great gankabilty and crown control with minions. Here is a brief guide on how to play him in the mid lane.

When mid laning it is key to remember that you are pretty much the keystone that holds your group together. Communication is essential! Use the quick commands like 'VF2'- "Enemy missing middle!", 'VSG1'- "I am going to gank left". And so on. Also, try not to return for as long as possible as mid lane. Use your potions sparingly and out last the other mid player. Be aggressive, but not too aggressive.

Never attack the tower directly, let your minions kill it for you. Many times side lanes will see that you just killed the mid player and will come to defend and you don't want to get caught in the tower area stunned while you get blasted from both player and tower. Not to mention if your mid player is still there it is easy to be cornered by a side lane ganker when stuck in the tower area.

Surprise your enemy, don't show yourself in mid lane until after minions have spawned. Keep an eye out for the other player, but stay in the jungle unseen for the beginning of the match and pick up that yellow protection jungle buff before following your minions into battle. This will give you an advantage over the other player greatly. Since you should have Hand of the Gods you should be able to make quick work of the buff minions with out worry of being ganked.

If your mid player is returns to base, grab the jungle buff on their side and take away the ability to match you. This will also give you a slight boost in experience gained. And the extra 10hp per hit to minions means you will last longer than the other player thanks to Hand of the Gods ability.

Be proactive, when you pop your Decoy, hit the other player 1-2 times with your basic attack and circle back behind your minions after. The slight damage forces them to pop potions earlier and your minions should add additional damage when they return the hit. Soon they will be at half health while you are still 90%. When they drop below 50% health have some confidence and surprise them with a ult to their back and a quick gank. If they don't fall in 2 hits throw your Decoy down and circle back and prepare to dodge their ult if they don't return. Rinse and repeat this process and soon you will be ahead 3-5 levels and then you can move on to ganking side lanes for fun.

Abilities

Here are some good abilities to take in to consideration.

Overall good abilities to pick up:
- Hand of The Gods (should always pick this up at the beginning now)
- Griddle of Might (more a mid-end game ability)
- Sprint (if you desire more mobility)

For more team work oriented players:
- Heavenly Agility (great for when you are side lane)

Heavy AoE enemyies:
- Aegis Amulet (Ares can be a pain for Loki, and massive group ganks difficult this ability might save your life when you need it)

All other abilities are not beneficial towards Loki game play.

Avoid getting Meditation as well as tower buff abilities. Elixirs are nice if you need a AP or Defense boost late game, only get if you are over fed though.

Arena Game Play - Brief Over View

Well I was going to post my own version of arena style play, but to be completely honest I think I am just going to link another guide because it is just spot on!

Summary

In summary,
Loki is an assassin God, thus think like one. Quick in-and-out kills is the name of the game for ganking with Loki. In my personal experience I have found the combo: Assassinate > Aimed Strike > Vanish. To be extremely effective in combat. If your Assassinate is on CD another good combo is: Vanish > Aimed Strike > Decoy > Vanish. Keep in mind that Loki is very adaptation driven, meaning that you need to assess the encounter quickly and be able to react according to your enemy's actions. A good idea to keep in mind is this: being that most your attacks are single target you will spend 5% of your time in actual combat, 15% of your time waiting and setting up your plan of attack, and 80% of your time running for your life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this guide, and I hope that you find it's content useful.

Special thanks to the my brother GodofSlowness for bouncing ideas between us.

It's funny you say that. You're probably one of those "Elitest" type that get killed by a player with fatalist and start crying DC. It's not a troll item cause a troll is a attitude perspective a player has (Like you Trolling him about fatalist). A weapon can't have a trolling aspect. It's just used well or used bad. On the side now nice build. Destroyed many with it now. Fatalist is a great contribution to it cause all 3 states are beneficial. Really helped chasing down ra and cupid that have 480-500 speed.

Wrong. I played Agni on my Smurf with Boots of Celerity, Winged Wand, Heartseeker, Fatalis and some other movement speed boosting items in addition to BOTH heavenly agility and sprint. The result was a troll, who doesn't love swagwalking with Agni at the speed of light? The intent with the build was to aggravate my team, not to get kills.

Fatalis is a troll item.

Though I agree Loki and Anhur are pretty similar there are these minute differences that make builds differ quite a lot.
Life steal for example I love on Anhur; but with Loki I always feel like, if I can't get the job done in a few seconds I have to leave. I always feel like Life Steal on Loki is out of place simply because he shouldn't be in long enough to take damage and to heal it back up.

That said though. Fatalis is still a bad item.

Fatalis really is a mediocre to bad item though. Of course it's all about how a player uses it; but if you simply do the math on how much more damage you can get out with this it's just hard to justify taking it.
The attack speed increase really doesn't do as much as people think (especially since you'll already be rolling with executioner and Qin's Blades at some point), and there are way better alternatives.
Even though the movement speed is great, you can replace that with other items (incl Heartseeker). I'm pretty sure that taking Boots of Celerity and something that isn't Fatalis is better (damage output wise) than Warrior Tabi + Fatalis; if you're desperate for some movement speed.

Isn't that what I said? For opponents stacking physical protection.

I think the base for physical prot. is 17 or something. Buy it early and it sucks. Buy it at level 20 and it is still outclassed. Good luck with 45% of 72. An increase of 60 magical power at L20.

Unless you're playing against a tank, wasted item slot.

"Titan's bane is just terribad unless they are stacking physical protection"

Did you know. If the opponent has 133 or more armor, Titan's bane does more DPS than Executioner.

Well.............. You got fatalis. Other then that it is a pretty well put together guide.

And you got Heartseeker in the arena.

Please don't hate on other people if your build sucks just as bad or perhaps is even worse.

I agree for the most part, however due to the fact that Loki has a skill with a built in slow remover the movement speed is viable for Loki. I have been doing a bit more exploration with my build as well though and found that if you are a well played Loki you can switch out the Fatalis for the Heart Seeker and truly dominate the field. I will be adding this build in my next update on the guide.

Yea I just do not see at as a good item on anyone. The movement speed is ok. I usually just get lifesteal and attack speed items and it benefits me more. I usually get brawlers beat stick and ankh of the golem. They benefit me more usually. Anyways just my opinion.

But not at the beginning, right after Tabi.
I rather have some damage and attack speed with The Executioner or Qin's Blades than just movement speed, attack speed and cdr. Its definitly a nice item in the later game, but the enemy will just laugh about your weakness when you get this at the start.
