Greetings, my fellow-subjects, to another guide written by yours truly. In this guide, we're going to take a look at the one who deserves to be crowned King of the Pharaohs and will do anything to get that spot. So let me take you off to Never-Never Land and meet your king, Set.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail, these are suggestions on how to play Set. I encourage you to look at the comment section below and see other suggestions.

Who is Set?

Set is a Physical, Melee, Assassin who utilizes the sands to creating a damaging storm or to create clones of himself to direct and attack his opponents. Proper placement of your clones as well as keeping your passive up to deal as much damage as this can make you a dangerous threat to anyone who wants to pick a fight with you.

Pros / Cons

  • High Single Damage
  • High Attack Speed
  • Constant Damage

  • Low Defense
  • Needs a Spawn to Escape
  • Limited Number of Spawns

Every time Set damages an enemy, he gains one attack speed stack until it maxes out. When attacking Horus, Set gains two stacks but only against Horus. A passive like plays nicely into his hybrid playstyle. Abilities and autos are his main form of damage so building hybrid would be the best option for Set. It should be noted that item effects will not proc your passive so don't get the idea.
Set shoots out a line projectile that pierces all enemies it goes through and applies a slow to said enemies. A nice ability that comes in handy when you can't catch up to your dying target. That's not all, when you have a Spawn on the field you can use Skewer to pick a direction to have your clone can dash and deal damage. Set fights dirty, and this ability solidifies that idea, with attacks that can come from any angle which can make for some cheeky plays.
Summon a clone, that's it. They're mostly stationary and will attack any enemy within its melee range. It becomes fun when you weave your clones into your 1st and 3rd ability.
In a short radius around you, a tiny sandstorm surrounds your dealing damage and blurring the vision of all enemies caught in the radius. When you have a Spawn on the field, you can target the clone and teleport to it.
This is where the fun begins, after changing his poster, using his claws, and gaining a slight movement speed buff for a short duration, Set goes ballistic. Each time Set attacks an enemy god while in this state applies a stack to them. When the max number of stacks are met, the enemy takes a small amount of damage, Set gains a small amount of health back and summons a Spawn to the maximum amount. This ability sounds fun in concept but difficult to pull it off as he's not CC immune or gets any defensive options so you're just as easy to kill so be careful. Use in conjunction with sandstorm and skewer to not only keep those heals coming but also the multiple Spawns on the field will do a metric ton of damage.

Items to Consider

As stated earlier, Set likes to utilize abilities and auto-attacks together to maximize his damage output. So picking items that benefit his ability damage as well as his autos will make Set a serious threat against his enemies. Here is a selection of items that can synergize with Set that could be a nice addition to your build.

Lifesteal, power, and cooldown reduction are good and all but it's when it evolves is where it gets interesting. When this item evolves, you can get lifesteal off of ability damage as well. So now not only will you get lifesteal from basics but also abilities like your sandstorm or skewer.

  • Have a Spawn in your Pocket
You're only limited to two Spawns at a time while not in your ultimate. While you use one to attack, keep one in your reserves while the used slot can recharge as well as in case you need to escape with your Spawn.
  • Beatdown
When you get close enough to your target, never stop the damage. Keep your passive up to make sure that you're achieving the maximum amount of damage.
  • Cheeky Tactics
Positioning is key for Set, not in the same way Tyr likes it, having your Spawns in positions to do surprise attacks on the opponent like placing them behind or around a wall to provide coverage like a mini-ward.

Combo 1
A pretty standard combo that Set will be using a lot. Placing down a spawn and using Skewer on an enemy for the slow and additional hit from your clone will be the core of Set's damage.
Combo 2
Need an escape route or a way to get the drop on a target, then this combo will be what you need. Simply place a spawn wherever and teleport when you get within range of activation.

Ultimate Combo
Combining all your abilities together to deal as much damage as you can. Combine with the healing effect from hitting a target a certain amount of times will keep you alive to maximize the damage you can do.

Stages of the Game

Early Game
Starting, Set will have a moderate time. Just farm up and gank whenever possible.
Middle Game
Once you get your ultimate online, start making your rounds ganking lanes and providing sneak attacks against enemy gods who think they are at a safe distance from you and your team. Set's Spawns hit hard, and he hits harder so use this spike in power to go after squishes who don't have the level to survive a fight against you.
Late Game
This is where Set sort of loses effectiveness. He still hits hard, but with the enemy now at their strongest, he won't be able to provide the quick burst without needed to go into his ultimate for all engagements.

To sum things up, Set lays down a constant barrage of damage from himself and his Spawns. Being able to surround one target or disrupt the enemy team through sheer might alone, Set can become a very dangerous part of the team if they play their cards right.

This is, overall, not a good guide.

Hastened Katana is never a good item in any situation on Set, and Bloodforge/Soul Eater are not defensive items. In addition, relative to other assassins, Set is quite difficult to kill, with slow immunity and damage reduction on his Sandstorm, and movement speed and healing on his ultimate.

Set is also very mana hungry, so two health pots to start is simply not sufficient for mana sustain.

Set's skewer does NOT stun enemies - Set doesn't even have a stun. It slows.
Set's sandstorm is not his only mobility tool - his slows can be used to escape, and his ultimate has movement speed sufficient to use it occasionally to escape.

I think you also understate how powerful his ult is - with any level of defence, and his sandstorm, he's fairly difficult to kill due to his mobility and sustain.

Also, the 'items to consider' section is clearly unfinished.

Overall, a good first start on the guide, but not one I would recommend any new player follow.

NOt much to say but a few item suggestions.
[Stone cutting Sword]- extra power for abilities and basics and passive will give some pen since you'll be doing plenty of basics.
[Gladiator's shield]- more for solo but provides good sustain especially when you're in Ult and have your 3 up.
[Blackthorn Hammer]- Another more solo item but good stats and helps with survivability and the mana issue from early game.

I'll consider those when I get around to the Solo build.
