If you are reading this guide, the I assume you want to learn the support role. My name is Joe and it is my goal to teach you everything I know about this role and how to play it in the current meta. There's going to be a lot of Information in this guide, so try to get through it. :)
Now lets get down to business. In my opinion, the support role is the hardest role in the game to play well. Most people think that the support's job is to babysit the ADC and ward. That's kind of insulting. As a support, you have to do much more, such as: Steal objectives(Fire Giant/Gold Fury), rotate to other lanes, keep track of jungle timers, initiate fights, etc. (you get the point). So basically the name says it all. You, as the Support, need to Support your team in any way possible.
In the current meta, as a support, rotation is the name of the game. Because of this, my top 3 supports are Geb,
Sun Wukong, and
Athena. Keep in mind that when I say support, I mean support tank. To me, gods like Aphrodite aren't the best when it comes to support because you lack a front line. This is a list of the supports I believe are currently viable and why:
Support tanks have to base almost every item they build on the situation. I typically start out with Watcher's Gift,
Hand of the Gods, (insert second active here), and a few pots. After this, i ask myself: Are you tanky enough? Do you need some damage? What about vision? CDR? These are the questions you should be asking yourself when you get to that well. Even though situational items are ideal, here are a few examples of items I typically use.
As a support tank early game, you have a lot to concentrate on. Stay in lane most of the time and rotate every 2 minutes to the mid camps and use your Hand of the Gods to secure them. While you're there, see if your mid is low on health/mana and needs to base. If he/she is (And you think your ADC can handle himself) guard that lane for a while. Ask this question to yourself every time you visit a different lane, it helps you get farm and it allows your teammate to back without a penalty. Also while rotating, see if your jungler is clearing out a camp on the way back to your lane. If he is, Go ahead and tag the minions for some free gold and xp. I like to call this "Borrowing farm." Other players sometimes get angry at me for doing it, but it helps me keep up with the others.

There's not much to the Mid Game as a support. At around the 10 minute mark, you should leave your ADC alone so that he can get solo farm. If you do this (And the ADC knows how to play carefully) he will get fat and do tons of damage late game. While you're gone, keep "Borrowing Farm" and warding. I usually camp mid because that's where the action is most of the time and I'm not stuck at one end of the map when someone on the other side needs me.
Are you ready? Now's your time to shine. The support is extremely important in this stage of the game. You need to be on the front line of your team and become the sponge. You need to soak up most of the damage for the rest of your team while they dish it out. When you step up to that front line, you are in charge. You make the call to do almost anything and if you screw up a call, you could lose the game for your entire team (No pressure or anything).
At this point you're going to be used for tanking towers/phoenixes/objectives and initiating fights. I'm not going to go into too much detail about the team fights because it's different with every team. Just use your CC to the best of your ability and go with your gut on the rest.
When it comes to attacking objectives, make sure that your Hand of the Gods is Ready. If it's not, tell your teammates to back off and wait a while. In order to steal an objective, use your initiation tool to jump in when the gold fury/Fire Giant is at 30% health. Immediately afterwards, use a form of CC do disrupt the opposing team's support (Stun/Knock-up). While they are too disoriented to do anything, use
Hand of the Gods and listen to your team praise you for your accomplishment.
Tanking towers is a bit tricky. Even though towers don't do a lot of damage to you as a tank, players do. Analyze the members of the opposing team defending the tower and ask yourself: Do they have enough damage to kill me? If so, don't attack unless you can take it out quickly. Be quick to call [VRR] if you get low so the rest of your team knows that you're "closing the gates" so to speak. Other than that, there's not much else I can tell you when it comes to this part of the game. Trust your instincts.
When the time is right, march into the enemy base and defeat the Titan. Congratulations. You just learned (arguably) the hardest role in SMITE.

1) Who are the supports? which gods are best for the support role and how they should be played?
2) What do you actually do? I mean, aside from farming and rotating; what's your role in team fights, or for example, how the support's death is much less crucial than the that of a carry.
Also, maybe emphasis more about warding.
There are a lot more to say about the support role... and the guide doesn't include that. It doesn't even include the basics... A downvote from me. It lacks so much information.
P.S - At least give Piederman some credit for the jungle timers picture...
Always good reviews my friend. Now I thought about making a support guide once. You do need to know though.
You can go on forever about this role. Forever. You should have a ton more information in your guide. A ton. Tell us at least 25 percent of it. You are at about 4. I recommend you archive this and then finish it. Then re-publish it.
