Introduction

Hey guys, and welcome to my Guide!

My name is Leo "Psiyo" Helpferer and as some may know i play SMITE for SK.Gaming.

I thought about doing a Guide since a while and didn't really know where to go with it but i decided to make it a General Guide for the midlane.

With no longer intro lets go straight to the basics!

NOTE
This is my take on Midlane and how i used to play it. (recently switched to the jungle role for my TEAM)
Wheter it is the best meta or not i hope, it will atleast give you a small insight on how to play the midlane role in SMITE.

DISCLAIMER
Do not excpect to get a full in depht guide for any specific role or GOD this is basic stuff and not a GOD Guide!

Back to Basics

As the chapter already says this part will cover the basics i think you need to know before you jump into the role of a midlaner in SMITE.

- Choice of God

This is probably the most important part wheter it is ranked or casual.

For me it has always been that i will choose the GOD that will be the most useful when getting farmed.

As an example for this is that you could put a Guan-Yu in mid and do fairly well but this would be a bad choice even though you could win the lane the use out of it will never be as high as if you would have choose a GOD like Isis!

So always keep in mind what the team needs most wheter it is a bursty ap assassin or a ranged AD ect.

-Knowing your GOD and the opposite GOD

VERY IMPORTANT

This is very crucial to any midlaner.

This might not be appearing to the casual players out there but it might be atleast to the ranked players!

I cannot really put everything i know off in here (it would simply burst my GUIDE '^') but some Basic stuff i will explain and you should know before diving into a ranked match!

To start off with the first thing you need to know is that every GOD has it's weaknesses in MIDLANE (apart from NEITH most ridic god ever createdxoxoxoxo)

I will just go over roles rather than specific GODS!

AP-Carry

-has hard times against good ranged AD players but are very good against Meele Assassins

-great burst

-most common picks for midlane at the moment due to good wave-clearing and high killpotential because of insane burst!

Ranged-AD

-good against AP carrys and Meele Assassins

-weakness ... none they have great wave clearing great escapes high kill potential.

-Great pick overall but burst is lacking compared to AP Carrys

Meele-Assassin

-has hard times mid overall but once fed are basically the biggest threat to any enemy carry!

-exception is NeZha .. great clearing, good escape mechanic and CC

-Overall solid pick but most of the times hard to pull off

Playstyle

Soo now that we know the matchups abit i will cover the playstyle i used in the midlane which is aggression!

But i don't want you guys to be blindly aggressive the secret to playing aggressive is actualy forcing the enemy to make a mistake.

Aggressive midlaner's will lose their lane if the enemy midlaner plays smart and passive this is why it is risky to play blindly aggressive.

The trick behind being an aggressive midlaner is to force the enemy to make a bad move.

As an example if you play NeZha and you face let's say a Poseidon the only thing you need him to do before level 5 is to waste his whirpool in your minion-wave.

To do so 80% of the times you just need to go to his meele creeps and try to push he automatically will try to counterpush with his whirpool. At this moment it is the time to go in aggressive since he wasted his "CC" for clearing instead of peeling himself which he needs to do in order to survive against NeZha.

So now you know a but about aggression in midlane but iam also trying to cover on how to counter this sort if playstyle and punish him for doing so.

One big thing you need to know is that if you face an aggressive midlaner all you need to do is outsustain him.

There are many ways on doing so.

I will cover my take on it.
What i always do if i know that i will face someone who is overaggressive is that i buy 10 potions (5/5).

Next on you need to be safe and don't give him the chance to get a kill. You can do so if you never go out of far tower range (always stay within a few steps of your tower).

DONT waste your escape/cc spells.

Farm the lane.

And set-up a gank with your team.

The thing is this all might sound easy and you might have already known everything i write here but as said this is a compelte Basic part and i want to let everyone wheter level 1 or level 30 in SMITE to be able to udnerstand what i try to share with you guys!

Farming pushing base and warding

I will rush over this since this is the obvious part of laning yet still i see people that are not able to do it correctly.

- If you know you'r GOD is a better pusher than the enemy just push as hard as you can while staying safe and don't overcommit/overextend

-ALWAYS try to take every lasthit not only will it help you with Gold but also it will help you with sustain on an AP carry since Vampiric shroud's passive gives you Health and Mana back on lasthits!

-NEVER back to base if you know you'r tower will take damage, lose a buffcamp or the enemy midlaner can freely gank a sidelane because they are free to take and do everything once you left the lane.

-When to back is when you pushed the incoming creepwave as fast as you possibly can and always know what you buy beforehand so you don't waste any time while being in base!

-Warding.... i cannot stretch this enough ever... please make sure that if you know you gonna push up that you always have vision at any given time in the game (yes even at level 1 you or your team should start warding and yes also the midlaner needs to buy them since he has the most farm and the shortest way to the curcial ward spots over at goldfury and firegiant!)

Early-lategame!

In this section we will take a look at the different parts of the Game from early to mid all the way to the lategame!

Earlygame

In the earlygame there is not too much to know for a midlaner as explained above try to not lose your lane know when to back ward yourself and for your team and try to get the most possible outcome!

There will barely be any rotations from you as a midlaner throughtout the early stages of the game!

The only things that can vary a bit are if you invade or contest enemy buffcamps!

Since the new "JUNLGE META" is incoming taking buffcamps gets less of a deal for you as a midlaner!

Midgame

At this point you are probably the most farmed player in your team apart from a good Jungler who can outfarm you with the new ITEM!

But with this being said you have the most impact in the game and it should be your turn to make a move with your team.

Also at this point sometimes you already have the enemy midtower down and with that your rotations should start get more frequently to try and help the sielanes to either push or get kills get the enemy jungle ect.

Also you are the most important part at the objective fights and your positioning is core for winning the objective!

In the Midgame you are also not likely to be tanky in the slightest so getting the peels is duty to your supports at this point but even more your own with positioning correctly before and in the teamfight!

Still even though you are kinda laying off the laning phase a bit do not forget to always keep your lane free don't give a free midtower take all the farm you can to keep up and don't overextend because if you die they can easy make moves towards objectives such as goldfury or towers (very rarely you will see 15 minute firegiants but it is possible!)

Lategame

At this point laning phase should be done and your only job in lanes is to keep the lane free so your towers don't get freely pushed!

Like stated above you are the player with the farm the items to win the teamfights for your team by bursting down the enemy carrys.

Everytime you go back you should be able to get 3 wards since potions should not be a part of your lategame!

NEVER and i mean NEVER overextend at this point because getting caught equals a lose at this point.

.Position yourself smartly in teamfights!
do not walk into a teamfight blindly cause getting a ymir stun or a hades ultimate on yourself is sure death in most scenarios.

So to be able to use your full potential of farm you need to have a fairly comfortable distance inbetween you and the enemy frontline but don't be out of the fight completely
since your job should be bursting down the enemy carrys or tanks in lategame!

Building your carry!

In this section i will be going over the important parts of building your carry!

This will not be specific on every god or every class but more of a guideline on how i build my carrys!

First of i want to say that directly counterbuilding your mid matchup is most of the times a bad idea because he won't be the core threat in teamfights due to your hopefuly good positioning!

In building my carrys i use some basic stuff such as seeing and knowing what will be the biggest threat to me through mid and lategame.

If it is an Meele Assassin you have to go for armor..even though you face an AP mid you have to get armor otherwise you will be shattered in teamfights to quickly to be useful.

Without building armor a GOD like Loki can 1 shoot you in midgame and for that he doesn't need to be fed at all!

If the enemy midlane really is a threat to you in lane already items such as voidstone which also give you damage and penetration are a good way to go since they don't really hurt you much on your core build.

For myself the 30% CC reduction is a must have on my carrys wheter it is Meele-Assassin or an AP-carry (not on ranged ad's since they have a humongous amount of escapes!)

In doing so there are 2ways either reinforced boots or hide of the leviathan both items are fairly decent but i always prefer the Hide of the Leviathan over the reinforced boots since tha changes they made to meele/caster boots!

Next up for my carrys wether it is AP or AD i will most likely end up with one of the big penetration items such as Obsidian Shard or Titan's Bane even thoughthe carrys might not be the target's you need it for but the tanks and bruisers sure are the targets you need these items for.

A quick word on abilitys aswell

Always get either Purification beads or Aegis Amulet on your carrys it can and will save you multiple times throughout the course of a game!

You can get both or you can choose to get abilitys like

-Sprint for escaping/chasing
-Girdle of might for the extra burst for you and your team
-Creeping curse very useful if you can land it properly
-Heavenly agility if noone else on your team has it and/or to counter enemy creeping curse
-Blink is very situational and it's more used for advanced stuff and chasing

As said i won't go into too much detail with items because it would burst this guide out of the earth and the intention is to cover as much content for getting started and getting to know the midlane role for SMITE.

Outro

So this is the end of my Basic Guide to the midlane.

I hope i could help some people with this guide and i hope i did not dissapoint people with the shortness of it but as i have already stated several times this is a guide that should help beginners on how to midlane!

Hey Psiyo, nice guide.

Just letting you know how much respect you and your team beat into me when i coincidentally got in a casual match against you.. Didn't even know who you where until that match.

The fun part is that i consider myself ultra causal with future ambitions of going into ranked.

It left me with a bad first impression of Anubis, so don't know if i don't like that god or if you just made me hate him.. GG tho.

Great guide hope to see more interesting guides from you and good luck in all the upcoming tournaments with your team! The one thing i saw was some spelling errors but i'm really bad at spelling so I won't criticize plus it really doesn't matter. Again great luck to you and your team! :)

Would be awesome if you could talk some of your teammates or other competitive active players to add something similar, just for other roles etc. (if they got time for us common folk) :)

Psiyo, please post more, ****ing so many guides and advice on this site are from casual,s who barely know how to play this game IMO, we need more players who actually know **** to be on this site. You also ****ed half of my ranked games with your aphro and ne zha mid meta, as now thats all I get in some of my ranked games. Instalock aphro, great. or thor starting off with power potion -_-)
