Introduction

THIS GUIDE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
And To add more of a build I made for myself then anyone else. I don't consider myself a pro or even anything remotely close and this guide is pretty much a joke that actually worked fairly nicely.

So this build is based around the idea that Ao's Abilities do enough damage to allow you to lane successfully without many items towards power and rather stacking them towards defence and health this can be extremely powerful towards harassing characters such as He Bo, Agni etc. because it allows you to play more aggressively with them while still out laning. It can also be extremely useful against other powerful mids such as Ra. Being that you are significantly less squishy then him you can push him harder for longer and take his beams head on(which is not recommended) and live to tell the tale. This build is, as I said, still a work in progress and there might be items that are better so I'm hoping that others will help me complete it.
So without further delay lets begin to break down what makes this build NOT a terrible idea.

Skills

Increases magical power by 5% of maximum Mana.
This passive helps make up for lack of power because of some your defence items giving you some extra Mana.

Ao Kuang fires a projectile breath attack that hits the first enemy in its path, doing 60/105/150/195/240 (+60% of your magical power) magical damage and slowing all enemies in the area around the target.
This ability will help you tear though minions especially when coupled with tornadoes and has a nice little slow effect that can slow fleeing enemies to help you get that kill.

Ao Kuang channels the wind, allowing him to move 15/19/23/27/31% faster plus an additional 2/3/4/5/6% for each enemy (up to 6) within a 20 ft radius for 4 seconds. A nearby player will give the maximum benefit.
This ability is one of Ao Kuang's only escape the other being just a slow

Ao Kuang summons a tornado at his ground target location. A smaller tornado branches off onto any enemies that come within the radius, doing 10/20/30/40/50 (+15% of your magical power) magical damage every .5s for 3s and is refreshed if enemies stay within the radius.
This ablitly is going to be your bread and butter so make sure you spam it like crazy. Not only does it wipe out minions it can also be used to damage Gods and make it harder for them to push you

Ao Kuang summons the spirit of one of his fallen allies to breathe down destruction onto his enemies in a path in front of him, doing 400/500/600/700/800 (+120% of your magical power) magical damage and knocking all of the enemies to the side.
Because of your reduced damage your ultimate cant do as much. Make sure to save this till you know you have your kill and use tornado instead to damage gods.

Items

Reinforced Boots

This item is useful early game because it allows you to build for both magical and physical protection being that you don't know who your going against. Although this guild is centered around magical based mids you are obviously going to have to deal with physical mids as well so build to suite your situation.

Meditation

Your abilities drain you mana like crazy making it impossible to mid for to long without meditation.

Magi's Blessing

This item gives you Health, Mana and Magical Protection which is a little bit of everything you want. The Health and Protection so you are able to take more hits from your enemies and the mana so you can same your abilities longer without recalling and the percentage converted to Magical Power. Also as a added bonus every minute it periodically absorbs enemies abilities. This works wonderfully against gods such as Ra that try to kill you with short bursts of power.

Hide of Leviathan

This item further stacks on both Protections and Health allowing you to gank other enemies and be ganked by none magical enemies.

Gauntlet of Thebes

Health Stacks and Health Regen Simply enough.

Brestplate of Valor

At this point there is a good chance you are no longer laning as this item should be choosing to suit your needs. I usually find it to be more helpful to get Defence against Physical but it all depends on your situation,

Rod of Tahuti

This item is to help you deal more Damage late game so your ultimate and tornadoes are still a force to be reckoned with. It is however Fairly Expensive which is why I save it for last.

Hand of The Gods

This item SHOULD NOT be bought last but rather anytime you have Money left it can help you clear off minions when your Meditation is on cooldown. Also if you don't like this item you can substitute it out

Summary

Ao Kuang Tank in the end is not the craziest of ideas and can actually be helpful. Some current problems that I have found is that a late game Freya can do massive damage do to the fact that she attacks with both magical and physical and you are usally stacked pretty heavy on one. And that you will be called a noob a lot so try it out and provide feedback to help me better this build.

I'll be honest this build is extremely awful. Kukluxklan/Ao Kuang benefit from magical power and mana like crazy and you want to build tank with him. Building tank is overall awful on any mage except Zhong Kui

Worked very well. I only prefer to get the Polynomicon instead of Gauntlet and to get the Rod before Breastplate, since the passive alone doesn't seem to provide enough damage. You'll also need to get magic power sooner if the enemy has an ability that restores hp, because else you won't be able to harras enough.

I think it needs some penetration but really it's a great build I like the idea and ao is my favorite character

Overall this is a very interesting guide and very interesting build & playstyle (+1 for originality!)
Unfortunately, I'm at work right now so I don't get the chance to try it out as of yet.
Tho, I'd like to bring up some input that might be usefull for tweaking ur build towards the best :D
First of, I think u should focus more on tank items/support items that both give u a decent amount of defence, but also mana.
Also, Ao still doesn't have that great escapabillity and that will still be needed even tho u play tank - all tanks have escapes (Except for Ymir lol, but he gots that OP stun) So maybe a sprint/heavenly agility instead of ur hand of the gods? And possibly a bit earlier in the game as well?
Just my thoughts

Edit: I like the Gauntlet of thebes, as Ao Kuang does get a lot of minion kills, but u might consider 'combo'ing' it with the Ethereal Staff? Will give u quite much more magical power as well as health

Really interesting Guide. I actually have no real contra point. you used the icons and colours in a very good way, the build is stable, as you do enough damage by his passive and rod.
Really good Guide
