Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knows how protection works in smite? I know that in LOL every point of armor increases effective health by 1%, does it work the same way in smite? Also I noticed there seems to be a hard cap on stats in smite. I wonder if you are over the cap and someone has penetration do they need more pen than the excess of your protection to start reducing that stat? Any advice would be appreciated (new player).

thanks all :D

Yo, first off, welcome to smite :)

So no, protection will not affect your effective health, and to answer your second question, no, once you reach the cap on protections its capped. They need to bypass 325 protection, and no more than that.
Rep me up if I helped!

here is graph I made to illustrate how protection works
penetration and reduction not used in calc, plain damage vs plain protection
took info from here:

Looks like 20-30 prot is where your mitigation pr point of protection starts to fall of or am I wrong?
Ofc it would be worth to get to about 120 as a support (taking reduction and pen in consideration you could probably go to 150 ish). That is at least what I can make of the graph, but I am no graph specialist :P

I don't think that answers his effective health question, but yes that works very well.

Anyway, Just take your % reduced damage, and multiply your health by (1/1-Prot% as decimal) to get your effective health.

Example: 1,000 health with 50% protection = 1,000 x (1/1-.5) = 2,000 effective health

1500 health with 66.6% (2/3) protection = 1,000 x (1/1-.66) = 4500 effective health

I left out extra sets of parenthesis, but subtract your % reduction as a decimal from 1, and divide that from 1, so that 1/1-.6666 = 1/.33333 = 3. Effective just take the inverse/reciprocal of the subtracted decimal. I'm sorry if this math sounds stupid it's such a simple calculation that I'm probably explaining wrong. But this gives you your effective health not counting penetrations, but that's EASILY factored in with help from...*ahem* porno's graph. Just look at what your protections WOULD be, look at what the new damage mitigation is, and put it into the calculation
