I can get build orders and such down, but I'm having trouble knowing when to initiate and when to back out, specifically in team-fights and ganks. I find that I'll either head for a gank at the wrong time and lose valuable farm in my lane, or I'll initiate in a teamfight just as my teammates or retreating. Other times, I don't notice that my entire team leaves the lane in the calm before a teamfight, and I get destroyed.

How long have you been playing for?
Positioning and knowing what fight you can take on is a skill that is mostly picked up from hours and hours of playing or finding it naturally. I know that it's irellivant, but on Call of Duty ive allways been able to wizz around enemnies posistioning myslef in possitions in places which givesme the upper hand, this kind of relates.

Sorry im not much help but you'll pick this up over time, just remember

^^ It takes TIME and TIME and TIME.
Takes a billion deaths and after each one you have to think to yourself, ok what got me killed?

For newer players its usually being over agressive or not having map/battle awareness. I played a bagillion hours of WoW back in the day and LIVED in the battlegrounds. That forced me to learn where everyone was at all times and know what they are going to do before they know what they are going to do. This all comes with time and practice.

As always, Im sure Odd will be the same, Im open for 1v1 at pretty much anytime. My Skype is in my profile page feel free to yell at me and set up some games to see what you are doing. I am no pro, but I can give you tips and see what you should work on.

Dont jungle =P

Smite is set up to just stay in lane and only dip into the jungle to get buffs. This is not LoL where you have a full time jungler.

Figured it was a really easy answer so I posted Odd.

Well I've just seen many people jungling (Who are skilled and know what they are doing) and they really own me and my team everytime.they hit level Cap much faster than me, then im just screwed.Just looked fun, and i figured i would learn how. But I Guess I'll just stick to Laneing, lol.

Thanks.

OH yeah its a better bet and way to get things done, specially the way buffs are placed, it allows the side lanes to just snowball super hard...something I hope gets fixed but have little hope for as even LoL has that problem.

There is plenty of jungling in Smite; it is, in fact, a vital part of every conquest match. As with more jungling arguments, not only do you gain valuable buffs and experience in the jungle, but your teammate gets more experience in the lane without you there, assuming that they are able to stay alive. It would be extremely hard for a team who isn't jungling to beat a team who is jungling well. What is different in Smite is that it is usually not as beneficial to have a "jungler" role like in other MOBAs.

There are two ways to effectively jungle in Smite. 1. If a left or right lane is set up well, god-wise, then one god should be able to grab simple buffs and come back to the lane while the tankier or faster clearing god holds it. 2. Both gods go after one buff after pushing the lane pretty far up to the enemy's tower. This is both because they can clear the camp faster and in case the enemy teams comes in for a gank.

This is all assuming that you are talking about jungling from the onset of the game, or very low level, as many gods are able to quickly clear jungle camps as they get higher level and build more items. Obviously HOG should be taken off the bat by whoever plans to be jungling more as well.

To sum up, since I don't think I was very concise, jungling is very important in Smite, but anyone who is spending most of their time in the jungle isn't doing things right. I have seen players do this, but I feel they are just missing out on ganks and other opportunities that come with the "I am the jungler" attitude.
