We went to a club named the Cosmos' Club. It's one of those pay-heavy-every-month-to-have-a-membership, coat-and-tie-required kind of clubs, but to be eligible for a membership, you needed to have done something significant to the community. We live in the Washington, D.C. area.
Anyways, it was worth it. A three-course meal of lobster and clam chowder, a large blue crab cake with potatoes and apple dressing (first time having crabcakes, loved it) and pumpkin pie/w pumpkin ice cream. All of it was the highest quality possible. Easily the best meal I ever had...
We had a small dinner, after I got off of work. Then, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. I was in lines with friends because they needed help grabbing stuff that they wanted.
To be honest, I'm not fond of Thanksgiving as well as Black Friday. I find them both to be symbols of American gluttony and greed. "Oh yeah, let's all get together and stampede each other for discounted items like imbeciles AFTER stuffing our faces full of food."
I dislike Black Friday, mainly because it coincides with Thanksgiving. Regardless of what people want to say on the origins of it, or the tradition itself, I love Thanksgiving because it brings the extended family together. I'd hardly call that greed.
Well we went to my grandmas house, got there on time (very odd for us) but the lady who usually brings the appetizers was 2 hours late. My aunt made cookies for the first time, which were good, and we had a guest over because her parents didn't tell her anything about their Thanksgiving plans.
my extended family
My grandpas (well, grandmas boyfriend, but thats too long) had his son and daughter over, and both of their kids, and his daughters daughters son (oi vey). He was cute, at the age where they can almost talk but can't. His mother was fairly pleasant (a nice change from the regular charades) HER mother was the one that usually makes appetizers, these little sausage filled pastries that are even good cold. My grandads grandson (holy **** that makes me not-quite stepbrother to a 12 year old O.O) was also more polite than usual, talked to people while asking what their interests were (which bothered me but thats just me ;)) Total count 11.5 people
the meal
For dinner we had turkey, ham, (no venison, showoff :P), chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, field peas, and blackeyed peas. Oh, and rolls. We also had sour apple chutney and honey butter. And for desert we had every pie, even chocolate, but not pecan, and strawberry pretzel salad (idk either but i was told its good)
