Introduction

My team needed and adc and I ignorantly went zeus planning to go an build with power items on it. I realized I could only get attack speed so I did that with on hit effects and won the game. I've used this build for a handful of games now but only as the main mage on my team (as it should be). I've carried really hard every game, granted I'm not even in league play yet. Maybe someone who is level 30 already can test this out a few times and let me know how it is?

Items

Hastened Fatalis is really key to this build. (I get this on literally any ranged dps I play as I recommend to others) The mobility mid fight makes you a pretty untouchable target if you are even decent at juking, all whilst being able to deal crazy dps with the bolts of lightning you're spamming into the fight.

I can't see any of the items being optimized with a different one. They all pretty importantly work together to make this build effective.

As for the actives. I just love blink. And for the damage buff its proven itself worthy to me. Sprint is redundant with Hastened Fatalis.

Skills

Max Detonate Charge followed by Chain Lightning. Of course getting ultimate when available.

I mainly play Arena, and have no comment about other modes, but I wouldn't listen to the haters. Everywhere I go I read how you shouldn't buy Hastened Fatalis with zeus, but then when you play in game you see a lot of people dominating with zeus and fatalis. I think a lot of people are stuck on the lack of core stats with fatalis and aren't actually playing the character to see what works better. Three things make fatalis a good fit for Zeus:

1 - He is slow as balls. He moves incredibly slow compared to other mages, and without some more speed you cant chase, you aren't in the right posistion or you are and you can't get away. Fatalis makes you intimitading. I can't tell you how many times a loki has jumped me after I had fatalis, and I end up chasing him and killing him.

2 - His auto attacks are important - yes, you need the auto attacks to stack charges. Even with his 1 and 4, his basic attacks allow you to get more charges on OTHER players. When I see an enemy with 3 charges, its time to ignore him and stack 3 on his buddies before I detonate. This is impossible to do without fatalis.

3 - His Range SUCKS - yeah, compared to other mages (e.g. AO, Freya, Vulcan) you have to get IN the fight. You have to basically be hugging the characters to drop the ult in the right spot. And because he is so slow, that means your in the fight, you need to be able to get away or chase when needed..

I've argued the same here - Zeus Build and got the same feedback, but I don't buy it anymore. I've tested a lot of Zeus builds. The only thing that I would recommend to you is you need penetration, and some cooldown (of course this is in Arena). Fatalis isn't super popular for Zeus, but I see it often enough on Tiermonster and know it works for me and many others in Arena.

My build is something like:

Shoes of Magi (I sometimes go for focus, but the penetration is very useful)
Chronos Pendant (or Breastplate of Valor depending on opposing team)
Hastened Fatalis
Obsidian Shard
Polynomicon
Rod of Tahuti
Bancroft's Talon

I rarely buy actives, sometimes sprint, but I try and use Fatalis for movement. I buy beads if I see ares, or a buff if we have a good cc tank. Works very well for me in team fights, in conquest where you 1v1 a lot, it might be different.

I'm 100% aware he's a caster not an autoattack based hero.. You guys really need to learn to kite better if hastened fatalis isn't helping you kite. you can attack them while walking backwards at 100% speed... idc if it doesnt give ability power the damage I deal kiting in battle and spreading more stacks of overcharge on the field before I blow them up is literally massive, all while in the proccess I'm forced to shred their magic resist as a result of me hitting them so much so when I detonate them it deals massive damage, I bet nearly as much as going pure ability power build.

Just because you have great results doesn't mean a anyone else will following your "guide." If you know how to play Zeus properly, fine. But it's a different thing writing a guide for not just a build but reasonings and gameplay. For myself, never usually get Hastened Fatalis on Zeus, mainly because he is more ability based like many mages with muchos poweros. Your inclusion of Demonic Grip and Fatalis kinda leaves your Zeus weak :/. Polynomicon is really the only thing that makes that build okay. Mages that are autoattack based include: Chronos, Poseidon, and sometimes Zeus...Not really fond of it on him though lol. And an exception is Freya who's ability attack speed scale with Hastened Fatalis which is why it's viable on her.

And your skill order is impossible lol

I'm pretty sure the good Zeus players build damage. I honestly hate him so not quite sure, but that's what I've heard. Just a tip. :P
