Hey guys, OneDegree here, and this is my first guide ever on this website. I am a support main so you can trust me when I say I know what I'm talking about. I'm only in Gold III, but I still know the game very well. In this guide I will give you advice on certain aspects of Ymir that goes deeper than just simple tips.
As I showed in my build, your core items for support will always be Sovereignty and Heartward Amulate. Notice how I didn't say Reinforced Shoes, this is because you do have the choice of Traveler's Shoes if you feel the need to buy them. If you can get a kill or assist in the early laning phase, always but Hide of the Urchine. Even if you don't get a kill/assist, but still ahead, you can still buy it. If you're going against any healers, you should buy Pestilence or Divine Ruin (Don't piss your team off, buy Pestilence). In most games you should get Winged Blade, but in case you aren't planning to, and the enemy team has a lot of slows, go ahead and buy it. You shouldn't usually EVER do this, but if you don't really need to tank, you can purchase items like Obsidian Shard, Ethereal Staff, Gem of Isolation, or one of the helms (besides Lotus Crown of course), again don't do this unless you don't really need to initiate or tank. If you seem to be getting CC chained or just end up dead from stuns, roots, or knockups, you should probably buy a Magi's Blessing. Even though Magi's isn't in meta, it's still worth picking up. Sometimes I feel myself needing CDR, if you feel it's not low enough, buy Breastplate of Valor. Remember, you will need to get Breastplate early if you're planning on getting it because it also gives you mana, which Ymir somewhat needs. You should normally buy Mantle of Discord as your last item because when you hit 30% hp, you're normally in a huge group of enemies, with this, you will stun everyone and be able to walk around them. This is especially good for Ymir because he doesn't have a built-in escape.
Ymir has some of the easier combos to pull of, all you need to practice is the timing. In this section you will learn how to role your face across the keyboard to probably kill a squishy god.
COMBO #1 (CONSTANT POKE)
Whenever you get a chance either between waves or during waves trying to disrupt the enemy (PLEASE DON'T GO AGGRESSIVE BEFORE LEVEL 5-7 MINIONS DO A TON OF DAMAGE EARLY). You first Freeze them using your 3, then (depending on the level of you 3) you can either just do big damage with your 2, or if you have the time, basic attack fist, then use your 2 to max out your possible damage.
COMBO #2 (THE ALL IN)
This is the only semi-difficult combo to pull of, but all it takes is timing, because his abilities are extremely easy to hit. So first, you hit 'em with your Frost Breath, then use Glacial Strike, put a wall behind them, finish them off with Shards of Ice. This combo Is really well if you can freeze multiple enemies with Frost breath. An extremely good location it pull this of is buy the mid harpies because you can put the wall right by the intersection, but the side closest to the harpies. The wall is just long enough to trap all enemies in it, so you can get a full-charge Shards of Ice.
COMBO #3 (THE BLINK ENGAGE)
This combo only works if you get Blink as one of your relics. First you use blink over a wall or to close a gap, (Make sure your team is with you) the you will freeze them. This will be enough time for your team to catch up with you. You then have 2 options, if your team is not with you, or you just don't want to, you can do COMBO #1. If you want to get the kill, or freeze multiple gods, use Combo #2.
PROS:
* High Defense
* High HP
* High Teamfight Potential
* High Crowd Control
* A Long Stun that can Stun Multiple People at Once
CONSh3]
* NO MOBILITY
* Bad engage without Blink
* Easy to pick off when alone
* Sits still while in ultimate
Ymir is good against any god that he can stop then 1/2 way through an ability, for example, Bellona and Kumbhakarna both have abilities where you need to wait while casting. Ymir can counter these characters by simply freezing them and completely stop the ability. Also, you can counter gods like Ares that have a really good CC ult that can just be countered by Ymir ulting when Ares lands. Other than this, the gameplay is mainly the same. Stay away from Nemesis because she ***** on Ymir with her ult, stealing your protections. This is kind of a rare matchup, but if you see a portal, Yir can completely block off the portal so nobody can go through it from either side.
In teamfights you are the frontline, you are actually a brick wall that people have to expend a lot of abilities into. You have a pretty good cc that if you can stun multiple people, you can completely swing a fight, if you have another Warrior or Guardian with you, that is good because Ymir doesn't have the greatest peel in the world, especially while he's using Shards of Ice. Other than that, you're really just there to annoy the **** out of the other team by stunning them, and having your dps kill them.
