Introduction

Ymir is definitely my favorite tank. In this build we'll focus on maximizing two things, his crowd controlling capabilities which really make him great for assisting the team, and we'll aim at creating a solid tank, capable of tower diving, tanking tower shots, and beasting.

Just fyi, I'll be continuing to work on this guide in installments, so as of now it is incomplete. If you have any suggestions or comments please leave me feedback in the comments or pm me.

Skills

I see alot of Ymir's max their W first and IMO I really think this is terribad. Sure early game it has decent damage, creeping capability but the slow stays at a constant 20% every rank, meaning come mid game you wont have your E and Q at their potential effectiveness (Which is way more preferred during that middle game stage.) and your damage from W will become irrelevant at this point since it drops off. Bottom line you are not suppose to aim for dps so much in the first place as a tank. Rank 1 W is good enough just to utilize the 20% slow, your E is what is most important for initiating and followed up with your W (another big mistake I see ymir's make is W before E, not as common but still see it often.) for Insanity crowd control, your team should easily be able to pick up kills. Ymir's Q (much like Anivia from LoL) requires skill, you must have good aim(and if you don't then it can backfire big time) and timing. It can be used when an enemy is running away to slow him down about 2 seconds in the open or completely trap him in a narrow path, or to keep opponents away from your team and save your allies from death. This skill is very often useful for picking up kills and preventing them.

Items

Lvl 1 Start!

I've really grown into this start up, it's quite a nice kit. You have rank 1 Creeping Curse and Heavenly Agility (big fan of both, usually results in first blood for my ally.) for additional CC and utility. Boots, utility, necessary to get in there and initiate CC's. The Health Pots will give you a good duration in the lane before your first recall which is what you want. You want to stick around and acquire Gil from dieing minions in your vicinity so you can upgrade those tier 1 Reinforced Booties to tier 3 on your first recall.

Upgrade! (as you progress)

1st item, Breastplate of Valor:
Cooldown reduction & bonus mana. Alot of people are used to meditation, after all it is by default recommended for so many. However since we've decided to forgo it in exchange for something of greater potential (i.e. Creeping Curse/Heavenly Agility), this and other items innate to the build are more efficiently utilized(mana). Dig it?
The cooldown reduction is straight out amazing for Ymir as all his skills are in the interest of Slowing down and stopping your enemy team from functioning. This means you can stop and slow your enemies often and your allies will kick their frozen butts as you do.

2nd item, Magi's Blessing:
Very defensive item, health, mana, Spellblock is great against every god in the game and especially good against some. Just imagine, Your whole team gets ulted by an ares and hes about to pull you all in but ah, your magi's blessing stops it as you've positioned yourself to freeze and begin ulting the enemy carries before his ult drags your team to them, and you've saved the day. (true story)

3rd item, Ethereal Staff:
Excellent boost to health, mana, and gives your spells just a tad umph, just so as it seems to dissapear as everyone levels, you can get it back in a proportioned manner.

4th item,
