Vulcan - Introduction

Hi! Welcome to my First Guide on SMITEFire on Vulcan. Vulcan is an extremely fun god to play, and is easy to pick up, however, hard to master. He depends heavily on positioning and punishes your enemy if they fail to perfectly position themselves. He is a great Jungler as well as a great pusher, being one of the few solo laners that can hold the opponent at risk of death and can farm extremely well. I play him as a heavy farmer and I think he should snowball for late game as his late game is pretty sub-decent. So, without ado, lets get to burning through the opposition!

Itemization - Core

Core Items

Boots of the Magi

Boots of the Magi is incredibly core for Damage Vulcan as the immense penetration it provides allows the Doom Orb's power to get through. It can be replaced by Boots of Focus for CDR, but your damage will feel lacking. Also, Tanky Boots are an option, however, I heavily do not recommend tanky Vulcan.

Doom Orb

There came a time, where I despised users of the Doom Orb. Now, I find it absolute core on Vulcan. Having not enough time to rush Book of Thoth in the Early Game, Doom Orb is your cheap option. This item provides you 5-shotting Inferno Cannon punch in the early game. If you are feeling like you aren't capable of holding it's stack loss upon death, believe me, even with 20 stacks, it provides a wallop.

Warlock's Sash

This item is considered tanky on ALL Vulcan, Tanky and Damage. This item provides health, punch, and with Vulcan's immense capabilities to stack, this would be no problem.

Ethereal Staff

This item, is also counted core on all Vulcan. This like the Warlock's Sash provides damage and tankiness, making you a teamfight menace. It is also rather cheap. It is also notable that this item can be rushed ahead of Warlock's Sash in the case you are losing ridiculously badly in lane, while selling Doom Orb.

Itemization - Situational

Situational Items

Reinforced Greaves

If you feel like building tanky Vulcan, go ahead.

Polynomicon

In Theory, this should deal massive amounts of damage, however, with a lack of time to try, I cannot promise you success. Ensure that You have an interval before every spell to maximum how this procs. Works beautifully with CC Immunity from Ult.

Rod of Tahuti

Ever wanted to see Vulcan use nukes? This item will show you.

Hide of the Leviathan

Helps you after your ult, to run away, also, amazing protections.

Gauntlet of Thebes

Tanky Vulcan. Replaces Doom Orb, don't rush it.

More Soon!

Actives

Sprint

This item is great for kiting gods and as an escape.

Meditation

If you would like to go farm a lot, get this item, it would keep you in lane. I only recommend this if your jungler would not like you to take blue in solo lane or are in right lane.

Girdle of Might

This item gives you and your team and acute attack boost and is amazing for bursting down players in teamfights.

Aegis Amulet/Purification Beads

Now you should get either one of these. Aegis allows you to eat a huge sharp damage burst such as Poseidon's KRAKEN. The Purification Beads allow you to escape from heavy CC. The only reason I don't use this is because I live in Asia and have lag, so I would have a delay on all of these. If you have high ping I advise against this. High as in 200+

Hand of the Gods

Well, your team will hate you for this. This allows you to storm down jungle camps, solo gold fury faster, POSSIBLY solo fire giant. Again I do not recommend this unless you are confident you can take down fire giant with it solo.

Creeping Curse

This item allows you to slow down your attackers to ensure easier kiting. Serves as an escape mechanism as well. This item is a must as it is a second ulti.

Restoration Shard

So... Heals. That is all.

Skills

Forge

Vulcan's Passive is the reason he can be so tanky. With the amount of health you receive from this build, the turrets would be extremely tanky, and working hand in hand with the 3% regeneration.

Backfire

Backfire is your finisher. As your turrets don't have that much range, you rely on this ability to snipe out retreating enemies. It does a decent amount of damage. It also is an ability that will get you out of very sticky situations. ( YMIR, MAY I REPEAT, INCOMING YMIR ) I max this skill last. This item also now marks a target
forcing your inferno cannon to target him upon hit. Great for Harassment. Also, since the rework, becomes an AMAZING

Inferno Cannon

Inferno Cannon is awesome. It might as well be Vulcan. Inferno Cannon is your damage turret, which can do insane damage late game with the build finish ult and etc. You place it down where it can hit all the minions, with minimal blind spot. In teamfights, ensure this thing is in the thick of it, however, avoiding the first wave of abilities to minimize instant KO.

Magma Bomb

RIP Thumper XVI. Hello Magma Bomb. This item has great CC, amazing for harassing those outside of Inferno Cannon range and makes tank Vulcan more viable. It deals a knock-up and stun for about a second, giving you enough time to take advantage of their misposition.

Volcanic OverDrive

This Ultimate is your steroid, your escape, your burst, your everything. This allows your turrets to do greater damage, ALMOST never die, and give you a really good set of protections and speed. Notably, this gives you CC Immunity, making Polynomicon Vulcan a thing, also, makes your Inferno Cannon rotate, dealing massive AoE damage. AND, Inferno Cannon will regen rapidly.

Tips

General Tips :

There are many situations when you should ult. Obvious Times are when you are getting away from an enemy. Other times are when you are at a heart of a teamfight. and sometimes, you can punish people for their bad positioning by ulting. Heck, you can even dive with your turrets to get someone. Overtime, it should get to you as a gut feeling.

You should always, or attempt to always, have all your cooldowns before you ult. You should ult before placing down your turret to ensure they do not get burst down before you ult. This rule only applies to offensive ults.

When you are Ganked, you should head for the jungle. Ult if your turret is not extremely low and book it. Place down the cannon whenever you can to slow them down or deny an easy chase. Sometimes, you might get a kill while running.

Buy Actives whenever you deem necessary. Remember to buy them according to situation.

Kiting. Vulcan depends so much on Kiting he can turn the tables with it. If the enemy intiates on you, place the inferno cannon and run in front of it, kiting your enemy around it, with the thumper slowing him down. If you think he is close enough to be ulted down, then ult and kite, they will run, either letting you back or giving you a kill.

WARNING, If your turret damages an enemy god while you are in tower range, the tower will target you, not your turret. This can get you killed and is troubling as a Vulcan player.

Excellent Teammates [WIP]

First, I need to mention how I prefer Vulcan as a solo lane. However, these select few Lane Partners as well as the best junglers with Vulcan will be listed down here. Do Enjoy =D

Lane Partners

Odin

I love Odin. I love playing with an Odin. Odin Vulcan lane is a really scary lane and is often feared as much as Zeus Odin. How this works. Odin has the CAGE OF DEATH which allows him to keep the fellow enemies in Turret Range. Throw in your turrets and Ult. Everything will die.

Junglers

Bastet
Bastet in the jungle along with Vulcan is a pretty decent combination. Bastet first engages from the jungle and jumps from behind. As the enemies escape, she engages with her vast damage and you place down your turrets and ult. She would use her cats and at that point, the damage would be far too much to defend against.

Random Player : 3/10
Friend : 7.5/10

Arachne

Arachne is so underestimated with Vulcan. First, Arachne engages from the jungle by basic attacking along with her spiders. Then, as the enemy escapes, she hooks them back, while you place your turrets. She will then silence the enemy, left for Dead ( possibly 2 :3

Random Player : 4.5/10
Friend : 8.5/10

Loki

What does Loki have trouble with? CC. What can Vulcan do? Zone. First, you engage by attacking with your basic attacks, leaving the tank and squishy to attack you. Loki then quickly bursts down the Squishy while you help with your turrets damaging and zoning the tank or damaging the squishy. You can get the tank after too.

Random Player : 4/10
Friend : 7.5/10

Hun Batz
This Guy's Ult can force your enemies into your turrets, this causes them to take so much damage, that it is so good. The best part is, you don't need a buddy to do it with you, all you need is a good totem
