TYR - He's not that bad

This is my first try at a guide, I decided to do TYR since he's so unpopular that I thought there wouldn't be a million of them already. I'll must tell you that I play on Xbox One, I've "mastered" 68 gods so you know I've really been avoiding TYR. Also, I mostly play Arena and Assault and I usually do the MoTD. Truth is, the first few games I didn't like this god either. I tried a couple of builds, not trying to break the meta or anything but I came up with this build. He won't get tons of kills unless but you almost have to try to die on purpose.

Items

Winged Blade 1850 - Health/Speed/Attack/Cooldown
Sovereignty 2100 - Health/Physical Protect/Aura Magic Protect
Heartward Amulet 2100 - Health/Magic Protect/ Aura Physical Protect
Jotunn's Wrath 2440 - Power/Penetrate/Mana/Cooldown
Shifter's Shield 2700 - Power/Phsyical + Magic Protection/Passive Boost Power-Protects
Heartseeker 1890 - Power/Movement/Passive Power Stack
OR
Frostbound Hammer 2300 - Power/Health/Passive Slow Enemy

This build is pretty cheap. I buy the blade instead of boots, I think they're a better deal and I use dash to get around. Next the two defense items, you can get them in either order really. By now most of enemies can't kill you unless they gang up. Next is Jotunn's, it's got a lot of mods, including power and cooldown. After that it's Shifter's Shield for it's power, protection, and shifting passive. At this point you can really push in Defensive Stance. Last is either Heartseeker for it's power stacking OR save a little more and buy Frostbound for the slow and health. You really shouldn't need more health but hey...

Skills

Here's my one really big complaint about Tyr. His Passive is one of the worst, most useless one's I've seen. UNYIELDING limits stuns, taunts, mesmerize, intoxicate to 1 sec. Complaint, only works against a few gods and then only shortens it? Lame.

When the game starts I put a point in each Fearless, Power Cleave, Change Stance. I'll add points to Stance > Cleave > Fearless > Lawbringer, his ultimate last.

Fearless - Dash attack or escape (hits once more in Offensive)
Power Cleave - Wide attack (heals in Defensive)
Change Stance - Offensive or Defensive stance (up to 50 Power or 50 Protection)
Lawbringer - Ultimate, leap attack or emergency escape

Game Play

Like I said, I mostly play Arena and Assault. The big difference is that you have to die a occasionally to buy new items. In assault you might want to buy Jotunn's sooner so you can stay out long enough to collection $4200 and buy both Defensive items.

In a typical arena game I'll start with blade and poke around, kill some minions. Stay in Defensive posture unless you see something squishy. You should have a few levels in just a couple of minutes. If you're low on Health go back, if you save enough for your next item go back to base.

Mostly I try to stay in the middle without over exposing until I get my two protective items online. Then you can push a little harder, with any luck your teammates will notice the auras and go with you. Usually this is when teams come undone (yours or theirs).

By mid-game I'm adding offensive items. Get used to navigating around the enemies with much fear. Oh yeah, if you need to, definitely buy Beads! Okay, it's time to hit the switch. If your Stance is Maxed then this build should have 190 power with Shifters Shields bonus or 170 without. Not bad but not great. You can either pick a victim and push hard. Once they realize you aren't dying they'll usually run away though. Try the "okey doke" once in a while.. find a Bellona, Ares, Thor or other stud and let them push you back towards your base in Defensive Stance. If they're alone switch to offensive and hit them with Power Cleave and some basics. When they try to get away it's time for your Ult. Also look for teammates and getting ganked and jump into fights late. Sucks for them but probably the easiest way to get kills with Tyr.

That's about it. With a little practice you might even like Tyr... nah. Thanks for reading and thanks for comments.

Yeah a Tyr who knows what he's doing can be a...dare I pun it, can be a top tier character(I'm sorry Smite gods). He has massive control and his combo's punish. I think the problem you're hitting is you're building him like a support tank. Tyr gets up close and personal, Mystical Mail, I usually like Stone of Gaia first, Mystical Mail, Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Runeforged(remember his defense stance gives him extra protections, meaning rune forged gives a bit more of a bonus in defense stance), and then end with either Titan's Bane or Frostbound Hammer. Skills rely on you comboing the stances together. Really watch an experienced Tyr user play him and I promise you will have fun with him. Also @TheUndeadParrot I too play Tyr on XB1. Cheers.

Your remark on his passive "unyielding" is incorrect, it is one of the best passive abilities in the game. Your build could you use some work too; Every time I play Tyr I end up with a build somewhat like this: Mark of the Vanguard (selling it later)>Warrior Tabi (Great Item)>Mystical Mail (One of the best items in the game)>Jotunns Wrath (Cool down reductions save your life)>Heartward Amulet (Great for being tanky and mana consumption)>Situational Item (whatever item you feel like is needed for the game)>Frostbound Hammer (Slows and Health). Winged Blade can never replace boots and it is a situational item. Shifters Shield is way to expensive to use in any builds, and heartseeker is not even viable anymore. For your leveling, The order should look like this: 2>1>3>4 but Don't put points in your ult until you have to, it just takes away his mid-game potential. Just giving some advice to another Tyr player :). (also Tyr is not even close to being the most hated god)

I'm completely with Hiilios on this. I main Tyr, and i came on to see if there was any recent Tyr builds and if not i would make my own, But Tyr actually has a decent fanbase due to doubletapgaming, just no one uses him on xbox except for me. The build that was posted, including items and leveling order, is really a terrible build. I would be surprised to see someone do good with that. If you don't like a god, next e don't make a biased build post, go to the forums. Thank you :)
