Introduction

Sun Wu Kong

Sun might as well be the back door man for everyone since it seems he is one of the most over looked gods that is currently in smite.

This guide will be a work in progress throughout the new season while I plan to main him and two other gods through the next league season.

All comments and suggestions are welcome. Also please note that the builds I'm posting are the personal ones i like to use when playing a certain role for my team you should take them with a grain of salt because if you have things that work better for you use that.
This is just one players opinion not a rule book.

With no further adieu lets get to the great sage himself.

Pros / Cons

Pros

1. Good lane clear with cudgel slam
2. Has natural protections making him harder to kill in early game
3. 72 transformations
4. Has talent in any position of conquest.

Cons

1. While he is good at anything you build him for he is hard to master
2. low damage at early game
3. Like most gods in his category if he is shutdown early its going to be a long game.
4. Takes some play time and some practice to get him down just right for each role

Playing to your talents

Wu Kong might be one of the best junglers/ laners in the game due to his boosted damage with cudgel slam to npc enemies if you pile this together with a blue tear stone amulet you will maximize your damage not only to adds, but to enemy gods as well.

The masters will is a good one two combo to add on after you have cudgeled a lane or a player, if they are in range give them a smack from the side as well it will slow them and knock them back a bit.

72 transformations is one of the greatest moves in the game in my personal opinion because it does it all, you can escape and chase with the bird. Stun and damage with the tiger, and disrupt casting and save teammates with the bulls pop up. The key with this magical ability is all about timing, you need to learn and execute the right form at the right time. and there are so many ways to do that.

A basic Idea of what I try to do if I am playing say support this game. I will go in at level 4 and have one point at least in each move. I'll poke with cudgel, press with masters will, and then stun with cat form so my carry can secure the kill. ( my normal carry is a friend of mine who plays Freya makes this really easy for a quick kill)

another little tip is that while in bird form you can still take damage so don't think your safe instantly remember gods like ares can still chain you as well so be careful. this being said sometimes the ox is a better escape tool due to its knock up ability.

Now lets talk about this Ultimate of his. somersault cloud. This move has multiple functions just like 72 transformations. One it heals you so it is a great sustain for team fights. plus the impact of the slam can secure either a kill or damage the entire enemy team. and lets not forget that pesky clone. and by pesky I mean most people will know better than to let it wail on them cause that little guy hurts. A tip on that note about your clone he gets a percentage of your stats, we all know this we have read the move so make sure you combine that with your magical little passive, wait for that passive to proc then use the ult since your stats are up the same holds true to your clone. (plus then you can heal up a bit and possibly make it proc again later in the fight.)

Items

#1 thing is Wu Kong builds need to be hand picked for the situation.

Remember he is so balanced so what you need to do is look at the team comp, find out what your role is and build for that. Check what items your opponents are building and adjust this is what will really make you stand out with wu kong.

This being said I can not stress enough that Shifter's shield might as well have been named wu's shield

This item makes his crazy passive even stronger. because when that passive starts you are going to put the hurt on someone and they will not be able to drop you very fast. The same can be said for the Asi. (though i personally don't use it with my wu kong very often) it is very viable.

This being said I personally have never seen a raw damage Sun Wu Kong do anything but get destroyed by late game bloomers. I would advise to building up some Defense even if it is minimal.

Team Work

Wu Kongs true strength comes into play as a wingman type support. linking him with a strong magic carry like Freya or Nox is amazing.

His kit is set up to literally set up either himself or his team with kills.

In the support role I like to initiate a ton with my Wu Kong, lots of cudgel poke then when i get the go from my carry I will stun him and masters will to slow after or vice versa so they can secure it.

A tip for doing this is Wu kongs basic attacks hit pretty hard naturally especially early game. That in mind when you do his attack chain after the second swing if you initiate the masters will ability it is a great one two three set up and it pulls you in a direction of your choice,(or you can escape with it.) meaning you can use it to get behind and make them go for you in order to escape which sets them in a stand still for ever so brief a second plus they are slowed. which is the perfect time to tiger form for a chunk of damage and the stun for your carry.

As Jungle you can use the cudgel slam from the jungle edge to land a hit before they even see you, and the same for your ult.

Wing man

Support

This build is for those who want to try out a melee support with a magic carry. this build is a bit different in the aspect you will be building defensive and for more recourses.

Think of Wu as a set up master. in this mode unlike some supports you are going to initiate most engagements with a few pokes with your cudgel. do enough to get some agro, and make them slip up ( either press to far or separation) then its a simple matter of slowing them down and stun while your carry secures the kills.

I like to masters will players for Its full duration so they are slow while the carry gets a few good hits on them, and when they start to flee you get a quick tiger grab this locks them up and makes the carry set up for a good damage burst, if they aren't dead you more than likely have cudgel again or even masters will to stop there escape.

Summary

In summary this underrated god is unequal under heaven and as such should be given a shot and some respect as he can hold his own with any god. Keep working on those skills and combos and before long you will be able to take anyone in any situation because you can out play them.

Why don't you get boots in the main build? Also you can only get one pot with the initial 1500 gold, since Bluestone Pendant costs 800, Morningstar costs 650, and Multi Potion costs 50 per.
