Thoth's greatest strength is his ability to clear a lane, quickly, repeatedly, and from a great distance. Additionally, given his passive, minimal penetration items are needed, making him well suited to magic-power heavy builds. Combining these, I find Thoth effective in the early to late game by rapidly stacking minion kills. In the end game, I can eliminate an unprotected ADC or mage from mostly outside their range.

-Difficult to sustain damage; comes in bursts
Passive (Dead Reckoning): For every 30 minion kills (or every one god kill), Thoth gains a stack of magical penetration.
Skill 1 (Hieroglyphic Assault): Thoth's primary source of damage. Note that this ability can be activated, and other skills can be used prior to firing these shots. The cooldown does not begin until the last shot has been fired.
Skill 2 (Evade and Punish): Escape! Chase! Place 3 at maximum distance and move through it with 2. You will cover a great deal of distance; I often use this combination to reach and eliminate fleeing enemies, noting that the attack following the use of this skill deals substantial damage.
Skill 3 (Glyph of Pain): Increases range on ability shots, and increases damage on yours and ally's basic attacks. Place in front of towers and the phoenix, and find them melt quickly.
Skill 4 (Final Judgment): Substantial damage enemies in a line, and at great range. Best used on enemies under 1/2 health, or at a grouping during a team fight. Range is substantial when passed through 3. Can be canceled prior to firing without cooldown.
Combos (Dependent on Skill 3):
Basic: Place 3, fire through with 1
Escape/Chase: Place 3 at max distance while running toward it, use 2 through it
Roundabout: Place 3 behind the enemy, 2 through it, fire and follow with 1
Barrage: Place in front of enemy, charge and use 4 (cooldown will likely be reset). Perform the Roundabout.
