Thanatos is a weird case in smite, in that his abilities do damage based on their level, less than on how much power you build. His best scaling ability is his ultimate, which passes 80% scaling which is pretty low where scaling regards, and generally only comes out as competent where physical power scaling goes, being about half what a magical scaling god would get by building power.
The thing is though even if you build almost no power for this than, he ALWAYS instantly kills people with his ult when they reach that threshold. And his one ALWAYS does ten percent of your max health to you when you get hit with it.
The point is power is kinda overrated where Than is concerned.
Hence all the cooldown reduction in this build.
Keep in mind of course that this build focuses more on suitability.
Since Than's abilities burn his health, and his abilities are most of his damage, Thanatos relies heavily on the ability to kill minions to get his health back after its burnt missing an ability, or losing a team fight, or just plain laying down a silence to save a teammates life.
With this build however you have the luxury of pulling back for five seconds or so and watching your health gloriously fill back up, which is the entire point of this build. This also allows you to box people better since they deal FAR less damage to you, compensating for the damage you do to yourself. This allows you to circumvent thanatos's biggest weakness, missing the kill. With this build you can simply wade into the enemy team, due to having warrior level health and protections.
-Really great Health regen to compensate for than's squishyness and health loss. He already had good regen from killing minions, but this takes the preassure off you to clear minion waves for health, and lets your hunter, and mage do their thing.
-Still really great Damage. 10% and 40% never stop being potent threats.
-Good CDR as Than's passive knocks ALL HIS COOLDOWNS down by 5 seconds when he kills a god.
-You are still a tank who can silence people, and if the Nox meta that's going down right now has taught us anything a Silence is boss.
-Handles just about any role in Conquest, as a support, a jungler, a solo laner.
-you can still Stun people with your Ult when all else fails.
-You move really fast using sent of death as a movement ability, since now your health regenerates 2% every 5 seconds, and as long as you get those 5 seconds you are still golden.
-still does solid tower damage, due to Sent of Death/titans Bane combo
-Crit based assassins can suck it
-Guardians can no longer wade into your team, and cause havoc because you are just as tanky as them, and still do more damage.
-Your supperior health regen means you can still cast abilities if you wait a few seconds to heal, instead of having to return to base because than can't cast below 6 percent health
-Sent of death sucks for running away, especially since you lose health to do it.
-Your basic attacks suck as much as a guy with only 70 power can.
-Boxing is rough with out basic attack damage, you can still do it to non basic attack gods, but that sorta defeats the purpose.
-Very ability dependant, and slow to kill people before you get your first CDR item
-You CAN support and act as a guardian, in arena, but in conq you wanna rely heavily on your number 1 to do damage (which still works) you are still short damaging abilities and supportive items for this role. Also remember to box the **** out of the opposing teams support if they are left alone with you. And remember to obstain from numbers 3 and 2 unless you NEED a silence right now. Also don't be afraid to tower dive. You have a **** ton of physical defense, and it goes a loooong way to tanking towers (avoid abilities besides your ult, to conserve health.)
-Remember to use the Dual builds for solo lane, whoever your dance partner may be.
-Unless you are already a good guardian, try to stick to jungle, solo and mid (if you really have to)
Basically play this how Thanatos is normally played, if you are a jungler or in arena.
Leave the heavy farming to the people who need minion kills and hover around killing jungle creeps until someone starts a team fight, then roll on up, mop up people in your threshold and poke a few others with your number one. Laying down a silence on a few people to make some saves for your teammates also goes a long way.
Avoid boxing other assassins util you get your Mantle of discord, otherwise better power will kill you. Rolling on up to the back line and slaying any mage who looks undefended is an easy task and one that will get you kills. Remember hunters ALWAYS outbox a thanatos, no matter what they build, so only attack them if you can do it in 2 abilities, otherwise back off. This mentality applies to assassins too, until you get mantle of discord, then let loose and knock em down at your discretion.
After getting to stone of Gain. Feel free to initiate team fights as your silence disables most guardians, mages and some assassins who build for ability damage. You probably won't get all the kills but you will win a teamfight if your team gets on the same page. And also don't be afraid to chase with Thanatos because you can take more hits.
Make sure your team knows you are doing tank Thanatos.
Remeber with this build you can push much farther than you normally could and can tank towers, which is pretty sweet if you are supporting. If you are doing that, remember the guardian is building almost nothing but Physical defense, but that doesn't mean they stand a chance boxing you.
When laning as either support or as a solo laner, POKE THE **** OUT OF THE OTHER PERSON WITH YOUR NUMBER 1. Your heal is based on damage, which is higher on high health targets. Remember to use the
(support only) You CAN support and act as a guardian, in arena, but in conq you wanna rely heavily on your number 1 to do damage (which still works) you are still short damaging abilities and supportive items for this role. Also remember to box the **** out of the opposing teams support if they are left alone with you. And remember to obtain from numbers 3 and 2 unless you NEED a silence right now until you have stone of gain . Also don't be afraid to tower dive. You have a **** ton of physical defense, and it goes a loooong way to tanking towers (avoid abilities besides your ult, to conserve health.)
-Remember to use the Dual builds for solo lane, whoever your dance partner may be.
-Please don't 1 v 2 or above. You will Lose (like everybody else, unless your opponents have very little health then go nuts.)
-Your ult is still an escape if you are in too deep, and close to death.
This build works for just about everything as long as you remember to keep track of it.
As long as you play decently you will start raking in the kills, simply due to how much damage than actually does.
